Private fishing access. No equipment rental. No horseback riding possibilities on our ranch. Best hunting place on more than eleven thousand acres private property. Early booking necessary.
Access to more than 11.200 acres private ranch property. Working ranch - Black Angus. Real getaway at the foothill of the Crazy Mountains with access to the higher elevation. Wildlife watching.
This fall was the 3rd stay at Barbara's and Lee's cabin. For me, the cabin provides luxury accommodations in a wilderness setting. It's always very clean, well appointed and turn-key ready when I arrive and provides all the comforts of home (including satellite TV) despite its rather remote location. Lee and Barbara always do everything possible to make sure that I have a safe and enjoyable stay!
Thank you both again so much for all that you do!

My 16 year old son and I spent a long weekend in Barbara and Lee's cabin for an antelope hunting trip on the ranch. My expectations were exceeded in every aspect of our weekend. The ranch is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in Montana - and I've lived here for nearly 20 years. It didn't hurt that the fall weather and foliage were at their peaks. The cabin is perfect for 2 people seeking a remote, scenic location for a quiet getaway. And, yet, it's only about 20 minutes to the charming little town of Big Timber with very good restaurants, shopping, etc. Barbara has attended to every little detail in the cabin's decor and furnishings. Lee was a great hunting host - giving us valuable pointers on where to find antelope and even assisting us with his ATV when my son harvested his first antelope. Thanks again for a great weekend with my son. We'll certainly return!
We spent our best vacation in this wonderful cabin. When you want to find big nature and a very lovely cabin, that s the place. Thanks to Barbara and Lee for this last best place.
I like to hike. I mean I really like to hike. A long way, all day. And that’s exactly what I did on Hailstone ranch on most of the days of the two fantastic weeks I spent there in June.
That’s just one reason to recommend the Crazy Mountain Cabin. As well as the eleven thousand acres of beautiful ranch land to explore complete with its stunning views, nature, peace and tranquillity there’s the lovely cosy cabin with everything you need for a memorable Montana ranch vacation. If you’re not into hiking you can just sit on the deck looking toward the Crazy Mountain range and let the days drift by.
Your hosts Barbara and Lee couldn’t be more accommodating. So friendly and always on hand to give you information and tell you about the hidden spots on the ranch but never overbearing. Such lovely folks. Not forgetting their friendly dog Nelly.
You’ll never want to leave this place, but if you do there are beautiful drives to be had. Yellowstone National Park is only about ninety minutes away. However, you may feel a little stifled among the hordes there after the tranquillity and solitude of the ranch. If you really need an urban fix the cities of Billings and Bozeman are both drivable. The local small town of Big Timber is fifteen miles away and has a couple of great bars with excellent food. You can also get provisions and fill up in town for those long Montana drives. A great local drive I would recommend is just south of Big Timber along Old Boulder Rd, past McCleod and onto Swingley Rd. The scenery all around is just stunning.
If you’re looking for a true get away from it all Montana vacation you can’t better than this.

My fiancé and I wanted to stay in place that had views of the mountains and the prairie... and this place was it! The cabin was so cozy.....with a very comfy bed, fully equipped kitchen, and lovely sitting area outside. Barbara was super friendly and helpful, and I really enjoyed getting to play with her sweet dog. Also nearby was a gorgeous waterfall and good hiking trails in the Crazy Mountains. Definitely a lot of driving to get to and from other attractions, but would highly recommend this place!
We stayed at the cabin for several days in August, 2013, before heading up to GNP. We will never forget the Crazy Mountains, or the hospitality of the hosts. Barbara warned us that the cabin was not meant to accommodate a family, but she did make an exception and allow our family of 4 to stay. Although it was a bit cramped, we didn't mind at all, and the whole family was appreciative of the opportunity to stay in such a lovely place.
The cabin was very clean, with a cute kitchen that provided all the necessary appliances and utensils. We ate most of our meals on the deck overlooking the mountains. The environment and absence of distractions encouraged lots of imaginary play by the children.
The air smelled clean and delicious, the sunsets were unequaled, and the mountains and nearby river/falls provided exceptional hiking, picnicking and splashing around options with minimal human traffic. We even went fishing with the hosts and the kids caught a fish, which we ate for dinner. We will never forget our time in this remarkable place.
Our stay was lovely. The cabin was supplied with am
enties, and extras. The wrap around deck was perfect for viewing sunsets,to wildlife;not to mention the mountain views!
The hosts were friendly and always available for any needs, or just to chat.
We recommend to any couple looking for a quiet getaway,to travelers who just love nature and the beautiful trails and falls.
