Ramp house has lovely views and the swimming pool is clean and cool. We enjoyed the openness of it and the views of clouds and sea. Its fun having the living room/kitchen open onto the swimming pool, and nice that one doesn't have to worry about dripping on the concrete floors. The house is well supplied with beach towels.
The house manager Renee was helpful.
We did find aspects of the house to be annoying. The bedrooms have ceiling fans which we were told could not be put on high or they would suck up the mosquito nets and tear the nets. With the fan on low settings we woke up hot and sweaty and one of the fans made loud clacking noises on low settings. One of the fans did tear a mosquito net though it was on a medium setting and we had to live with a torn mosquito net. The fan and mosquito net difficulty should be worked out, or standing fans put in.
The front door is warped and difficult to lock. It took us days to get the hang of it without a struggle.
When one leaves the house, all valuables must be put into a safe and the alarm put on as the house is so open. At night the heavy metal shades must be lowered in the living room. Once I did see someone on horseback hiding in the backyard bushes and they ran off as soon as they saw me.
We could find no napkins in the house, which is a small thing, but there should be cloth napkins. There was only one dishcloth in the house. Again, a small thing, but there should be dishcloths.
There is a machine in the basement which often makes a good bit of noise. Maybe a pool pump?
Any place you go you must drive, and we missed being able to walk places. We tried walking the horse path towards Esperanza but it was scrubby and thorny and it ended on the road with a perilous walk into town from there.
In short, though we loved the openness of Ramp House, and the beaches of Vieques, there was too much garbage spread along the roads and we got tired of having to drive every time we left the house. I don't think we would go back.
Owner's Response: We really are truly sorry that you didn't have a fantastic time. We try our hardest to make sure that every stay at the Ramp House is as perfect as it can be. Vieques is a magical place, but sadly, it can't be magical for everyone.
