I've never been to Maine before but have heard many nice things about the weather and natural beauty of the state during the summer months. All I can say is our vacation completely exceeded all expectations.
After traveling with our three young children from California, we were ready for some relaxation and on arrival, the house was a very welcome refuge. It was clean and perfectly sized for the five of us plus one cousin. Before I could unload the luggage, the kids were playing in the water and my wife sacked out in the hammock at water's edge. There was a 2 person kayak at the dock waiting for us to go exploring.
Our week there was filled with many kayak trips along the beautiful shores of China Lake. Much of the shore is not populated with cabins so there was, within a short paddle, plenty of solitude to be found. My kids had a blast exploring the shoreline and hunting for treasure.
Late afternoons, we would walk with the kids to the ice cream parlor (~20 minutes walk away) for Moose Tracks ice cream.
Shopping was close by (~5min drive) where we could stock up on anything we needed.
Parris and Cathy have a gem of a house and their generosity in sharing this treasure with us will always be appreciated. I would recommend this to anyone.
