We are third and fourth generation Inverness vacationers.
Susan Hill purchased this house in 1972
We built this house to take advantage of the beautiful views and forest and because of the proximity to the beaches on Tomales Bay.
Our house is made of wood with great expanses of glass, so wherever you are inside you can see the sky, forest or water. The high ceilings and different levels give a great sense of space.
This is a marvelous house of distinctive and distinguished California architecture in the forest overlooking Tomales Bay. It is generous and capacious in scale and in excellent condition, with all equipment and appliances working perfectly, including the fireplace and hot tub. It was perfect for a two-day retreat by our three-generation family, and we highly recommend it for its great windows and view, and as a base for excursions on foot nearby or visiting the handy town of Point Reyes Station, with its grocery, post office, restaurants and bookstore.
It is so charming how the road abruptly stops in front of a welcoming carpet of lawn. Beautiful grounds, lovingly cared for, let you know right away that you are about to have a magical stay. The house is not big but it has a grand scale - very high ceilings, braced diagonal supports that are playfully interlaced with windows and doors, lots of wood. We came from some R and R after a very busy summer. I settled right in to the reading bed near the main outside deck and hot tub, and there I stayed, book in hand...The kitchen is very well stocked and pleasant to be in. This is the house we hope to come back to over and over and over again. Thank you to the Hill's for sharing...
We just returned from our stay in this warm and delightful house, where we rested and relaxed in between our forays out into the fog on the hunt for the best oysters on Tomales Bay. The house is truly a modern cabin, both rustic and elegant in a mid-century modern way. We absolutely loved the view, the gorgeous wood decks, and the fireplace (and the well-stocked firewood!). The master bedroom was divine--cozy with a wonderful bed, glorious sheets and comforters.
We cooked in the kitchen one night, and we had everything we needed to prepare a gourmet meal. Best of all was the location--overlooking the bay, close to Cowgirl Creamery in Point Reyes Station, oyster farms up and down the bay, and Saltwater restaurant in Inverness (perfection). Will definitely recommend to anyone coming to this stunning area!
I am always a little wary when it comes to unfamiliar houses on vrbo. However, your home could not have been more perfect. It was everything I had hoped it would be, creating the stage for a very special birthday weekend. The view was spectacular, and we really enjoyed the well-supplied kitchen, the fireplace and the hot tub. Thank you so much!
This house is quite special. I agree with the other reviews, the photos do not do this house justice. It is an architectural piece with multiple levels, lots of light, great views and many gathering spaces all set in a beautiful clearing in the forest with a small lawn, BBQ area and wrap around decks on the view/bay side. We had a family reunion for my mother's 75th birthday and had a wonderful time. Although there are only two bedrooms, the "lower living room" has two singe beds and a pull out couch, so we had plenty of space.
This house is immaculate and beautifully cared for. It is NOT you typical rental, all the amenities are as as if provided by a home owner for themselves. The Kitchen is very well stocked with nice pots, pans, knives, coffee maker etc... My mother and I love to cook together so we actually brought many of our own supplies only to find we did not need them.
One last note, Shell beach is just a 15 minute walk down the hill. This is a beautiful beach on the bay which usually has better weather than the ocean side beaches as the fog is often held back by the ridge to the west. And you often have this beach all to yourself. Very nice.
The photos don't quite give the house proper justice. After feeling a little wary, when the house came in to view after the long driveway I couldn't stop smiling. It's perfect! Amazing natural environment (saw a buck and two baby dear in the driveway at one point) and perfect comfort level in the house, including way better decor than I'd expected. Cute teak dinning set, great house layout, functional information and directions for everything without taking away from feeling homey. View is amazing, hot tub is the perfect touch, and Point Reyes Station (closest small town) is so cute it's silly. Go to the Pine Cone Diner & Cowgirl Creamery! Great hikes close by, lots of beaches. Took the dog running on the local streets some mornings and the neighborhood is adorable. Perfect!
