Come enjoy a truly one-of-a-kind mountain escape. Located on Lake Nantahala, the highest lake east of the Mississippi, this house offers the perfect opportunity to retreat with family and friends. It is spacious enough to accommodate an extended family or a reunion with its two levels of outdoor decks, plenty of beds, large kitchen and dining room table, and a dock large enough to accomodate an 18-foot boat.

Late spring and summertime bring ample opportunities and fun for everyone! The clear-water lake provides great fishing, kayaking, boating and water skiing. Cycling is just a moment away when you can hit the breathtaking climbs of the Smoky mountains. The Appalachian trail passes within a few miles and great hiking is just out the front door. World class rafting and kayaking at the Nantahala Outdoor center are other great attractions. Up high in the mountains and completely shaded by trees, with high vaulted ceilings and fans, we hardly have a need for the window units on the top floor! A cool breeze off the lake (or a quick jump in) is usually all you need to stay cool.

Autumn is a visual treat! The house is nested among deciduous broad-leaf trees that produce vibrant and beautiful colors as the weather starts to cool. Daytime temperatures of 60-70 degrees make perfect hiking weather, while nighttime temperatures of 30-40 degrees produces a great campfire and s'more ambiance!

Winter at the lake is a time of relaxation and recuperation. Snowfall can range from a light dusting to 8 inches, which makes drinking a warm cup of joe or cocoa all the more toasty! The wood fireplace keeps the place cozy while you read a good book, work on a project, or just lounge around and watch a good movie. While the temperatures are a bit more nippy in the winter (20-40 degrees during the day, 10-30 degrees at night), it certainly doesn't keep you from bundling up and hiking or star-gazing!

We have travelled to Lake Nantahala for the last six years. Our family found it to be such a special place that we decided to invest in a property for a lifetime. We continue to use the house as a retreat and special family gathering place. From the moment we get 'up on the hill and on the lake' things are entirely different. Can't wait to be there.

What makes this house unique

High in the mountains and secluded by the lake. Awaken every morning to sunrise on the hills and over the lake. Eagles and egrets are the closest neighbors. Fishing off the private dock or a swim across the quiet lake are just two of the many choices one can make for the day. Kayaking around the lake provides ample opportunity to explore the beauty of the Nantahala forest range. Cycling, hiking and trout fishing are all premier class. The private dock is perfect to tie up a ski boat for personal use.

This is an excellent place for a lake front vacation. The house is perfectly finished for a vacation home. It has a lot of options for housing a fair amount of people very comfortably. Very dog friendly. The lake is as beautiful as you'll find anywhere- plenty of swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing right out the back door. NOC and Tsali are close by for other fun.The home is fairly secluded- no other homes right beside you although you are in a gated community. Extremely comfortable, we could have stayed another week. The owners were very pleasant to work with and everything was as they said it would be. The only thing you should consider is if you have quests that have problems with climbing steps this home could be an issue getting down to the lake( but so are most of the other homes on this lake as well). We're already trying to figure out when we can get back.
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Wonderful retreat for our family

This home is just beautiful! Everything you need to have a great family vacation is provided - kitchen is fully functional with top of the line appliances and equipment, bathrooms are huge and modern, washer and dryer, dock is big and in very good condition (no splinters for bare feet!), linens are new, basement was great for our teens with a ping pong table and space to hang out, 4 lake kayaks, fire ring with a cooking grate, ample parking in the driveway and lots more.

This home was very, very dog friendly. It meant the world to us us to be able to bring our dogs. Gates on the decks and a very large crate in the basement made containing the dogs very easy.

This area is beautiful with the mountains meeting the lake and creeks and rivers and waterfalls everywhere you look. Lake Natahala is remote - no cell service for at least a 20 minute drive. Tons of outdoor activities - we went rafting at Nantahala Outdoor Center and loved it. This home has a lot of stairs - the home is 3 levels and there are a lot of stairs to the dock. Wouldn't recommend this home for anyone with disabilities. Families with very young children need to be comfortable with their little ones going up and down these steep stairs.

We've rented houses all over the country and our experience with this home is one of our favorites. Owners were great.
