This cabin gives you all the comforts of home with quick access to climbing, hiking, skiing, and kayaking. It has a generous back deck for sitting, grilling and watching the sun set in the evening. In the shed there are three kayaks for your use. You can pack a lunch and kayak from Mountain View Lake thru the channel and onto Indian Lake. Or for really great scenery you can paddle for a couple of miles up the Salmon River. There are horseshoes, a croquette set and a hammock for outdoor use and plenty of games, books and movies for when you're inside.

This charming, fully furnished cabin has been recently remodeled. The first floor has an open floor plan with a fully stocked kitchen, dinning area with seating for 6 and living space with futon. Off the kitchen is the bathroom with tub, shower, clothes washer and dryer. There is also one bedroom with a double bed and a sitting room with a (gas) wood stove and a twin bed. Upstairs there are two more bedrooms each with a double bed and sliding doors out to their own private decks..

Set in the foothills of the northern Adirondack Mountains, this cozy cabin is located near many attractions in and out of the Adirondacks, Lake Placid (50 minutes), Saranac Lake (40 minutes), Whiteface Mountain/Wilmington (45 minutes), Plattsburgh (50 minutes), and Montreal (75 minutes). The Malone Country Club is located 10 miles away, it features a Trent Jones designed course (36 holes). Beautiful Titus Mountain is about 10 minutes away and it operates a total of 10 lifts. These lifts service 27 trails & 1200 vertical feet of winter fun. You will be a short drive from Paul Smiths College and The Visitor Interpretive Center. This 2,885-acre preserve includes a 60-acre marsh, five ponds, several brooks and swamps.

Other Activities: Kayaking and Fishing

We have three kayaks that you can use. Access to Mountain View Lake, Indian Lake and the Salmon River is from the back yard.

Fishermen will find a variety of fish including brown trout, smallmouth bass, bullhead, northern pike, sucker, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish and yellow perch here.

Fishing Indian Lake

Fishermen will find a variety of fish including largemouth bass, yellow perch, bullhead, pumpkinseed sunfish, brown trout, northern pike and sucker here. So grab your favorite fly fishing rod and reel, and head out to Indian Lake. If all goes well, the black bullhead will be hooked by your large chubs, the perch will be biting your shiners and the pike will be grabbing your leaf worms.

  • Cleaning fee included. Bed linens and towels are provided at no extra charge
  • Arrival is after 3:00 p.m. Saturday, and check out is before 10:00 a.m. the following Saturday.
    Weekends accepted based on availability only.
    Discounts for multiple weeks.
  • A $200 security deposit is required at time of reservation.This deposit is refunded within 30 days of departure as long as there is no damage and the cleaning policy is adhered to.

    The full rental fee is required 3 weeks in advance of move-in date. If reservation is canceled 3 weeks in advance, the entire $200 security deposit is returned; after that the weekly rental fee will be returned in full, but the security deposit is subject to forfeit.

Great place to get away from it all.

This is definitely a place to go to if you want to get away from it all. This comfortable house is on a side road and all by itself, nestled up against a quiet inlet. It has a fully stocked kitchen and nice sized bedrooms. Kayaks are provided, which we used regularly. There is no internet access, but cable TV and some movies, books, games are provided. It you need to be entertained on vacation, this may not be the place. But if you are into nature and hiking and kayaking and quiet, this is a place we would recommend. The owner was very responsive and considerate and helpful. The caretaker was there when we needed him, which was seldom. We found it to be all we were expecting and more.

Thanksgiving 2012 trip

2nd Thanksgiving trip to this beautiful secluded spot.

Caretakers are there when you need them and the Cabin is perfect. Lookouts from both upper bedrooms a big deck and kayaks if you want them.

Only 25 minutes to Malone if you need to go into town for supplies.

We took a 7 minute drive to a trail where we hiked up to the Owl's Head peak. You could see the whole Owls Head valley from their.

Hiked at Debar mountain as well ( a 15 minute drive depending on the trail)

A 5 minute drive takes you to Barnsville Road and the High Falls trail.

Secluded and peaceful, we will be back.

Peace and tranquility

We loved this cozy cottage and its peaceful lakes. We kayaked for hours, swam from the island about a mile up the lake, and relaxed with novels while enjoying the beautiful views. The cottage had everything we needed for a truly wonderful vacation. We saw herons by the dozen and heard the beautiful, eerie sound of bald eagles calling to each other as they soared above us. The cottage had everything the owner promised and more -- even an extra little sitting room with a bed and shelves stocked with novels. Everything was clean and well taken care of. If you are looking for a place that's truly away from it all, this is a wonderful find. Our boys (11, 13, and 15) absolutely loved it.

Perfect in every way

: I couldn't say enough positive things about the property and our stay to do it justice. I have been going to the Adirondacks for nearly 50 years since childhood and return every year. As for my recent stay it started off gold right from the beginning with prompt and courteous responses to my inquiries. After contracting a rental agreement all information needed for the stay was sent with full disclosure about the property. Upon arrival my wife and I were in heaven and remained there until departure. The caretakers are immaculate on every detail. One would be hard pressed to find this in a 5 star resort. The owners and caretakers are truly on the ball with this, missing no details. All my stays have been pleasant but this was the first one that was perfect in every way. It was by far the best get away we have ever experienced. Privacy, Serenity, and Relaxation to the max with picture perfect views inside and out. Truly can't think of a single thing that would disappoint even the most discerning of folk. We will be returning as long as it is available.

Enjoy your coffee out on the deck in the morning!

We just booked our vacation for the third year in a row at Tamarack, doubling our reservation to two weeks this time, if that gives you any indication about how much we love it there. We are very happy to have found this haven! We love feeling like we are in a remote, rustic location - but with a cozy cabin to stay in that is lovingly and artistically appointed and completely immaculate. We travel and kayak with our two small dogs, and we are so grateful that the owners here allow pets.
