This northern Minnesota home on Lake Hennepin appeals to guests with it's blend of easy charm and attention to detail. The pristine quality of the lake and surrounding 5 acres of grassy wooded property is only the beginning. Inside the newly remodeled home, you will find a cozy retreat, complete with a romantic master suite. Perfect for special celebrations (honeymoon, anniversary, reunions) or simple at-the-lake vacations, this home fits the bill for families, couples, or gatherings of friends.
Our beautiful well-equipped kitchen opens to a relaxing dining area. Enjoy a lake view whether you're cooking or eating. Tables just outside on adjoining deck and lower patio are perfect for morning coffee or al fresco dining. Reading materials, radio and music library, comfortable furnishings and artwork make the adjoining living room a warm, inviting area.
On the main floor, too, is the extraordinary master suite complete with in-room jetted tub for two and private bath. This room is graced with floor-to-ceiling ''window walls'' on two sides. Spacious, quiet, and romantic, this area has its own door to the outside and access to the deck, patio, and lake. Bedroom #1 is on the main floor, with plenty of room to set up a portable crib if needed. A half bath is just across the hall.
The lower level has the third cozy bedroom, separate full bath, laundry room, and entertainment room with 42'' LG HDTV, DVD Player and Sony PS 3. Here is the room for a rainy day or a retreat after outdoor activities. With its walk-out feature, lake-side windows and easy to use gas fireplace, this is the place for movies, TV sports, or video games. Two fold out beds also allow this room to sleep 4.
One of northern Minnesota's natural gifts is the panorama of the seasons. Warm weather and water activities abound here. Autumn in the north country is stunningly beautiful, perfect for long hikes and visits to Itasca. In the winter, park your snowmobiles in our 40' square garage or take up cross-country skiing or ice fishing. Imagine Thanksgiving or Christmas gatherings in this rustic setting. Here is an ideal spot to rest and renew, year after year.
My husband and I, along with our son and DIL, spent the weekend, making memories. There was a forecast for a winter storm but only light snow and cold came. Beautiful view of the lake, sun streamed into east facing wall of windows. Opportunity to go snowshoeing, many photo ops of the beautiful setting.
The cabin was very welcoming and fully furnished with everything we needed. Enough room for another couple plus kids. The kitchen was fun to cook in. Appliances were upscale. We enjoyed all of the amenities.
The owner was super easy to work with and communication was returned in a quick manner. Look forward to visiting this place in the summer.
At the last minute, my family needed a vacation spot and were lucky enough to find Hennepin House. We couldn't have been happier. Far exceeded our expectation. Was very clean, kitchen was well-stocked, even arrived to a bottle of wine, cheese and crackers and fruit. The lake was private and beautiful. We used the canoes, kayak, and floaties provided and just spent some quality family time relaxing and enjoying the lake. Our kids and nieces and nephew (ages 10-15) loved it too, as well as my parents who also joined us. Perfect for a multi-generational weekend! Hope to stay there again and maybe bring my girlfriends for a fall weekend getaway. :)
A week at the Hennepin House proved to be a perfect background for our once-a-year summer family get together. There was plenty of room for six adults and two children. We really enjoyed the solitude. While sitting on the deck or on the dock, we felt as if we had the entire lake to ourselves. We were treated to the sights of eagles soaring over the lake during the day and were serenaded by the loons during our evening gatherings around the fire pit. We made use of both the kayak and canoe and our grandsons (ages 7 and 11) spent hours in the lake on the provided inner tubes. The conditions were first-rate. Location perfect. Made a day trip to nearby Itasca State Park where we rented a pontoon, had a picnic and did the walk across the the Mississippi that is a 'must' for all park visitors. Although a private location, Bemidji is only 20 minutes away for shopping, entertainment, groceries, etc. We all decided before we left that we would love to return to the same location next year.
Our family spent a weekend at Hennepin House and the only bad thing we can say about our stay was that it was way too short! The house was clean and comfortable and had all the necessities and more. We enjoyed sitting on the deck taking in the beautiful view and the sunshine and found it a great place to visit and catch up with family. The master bedroom offered a showcase for the moon reflecting across the water. This, accompanied by the call of the loons, was Minnesota at its finest. Paulette was easy to communicate with and provided clear instructions and was quick to respond to any questions we had. We look forward to a return trip soon!
We had met some friends and family at the Hennepin house for a long weekend and had such a wonderful stay. We had all kinds of weather but it didn't matter as the house had so much to offer. The views are spectacular, it had everything one would want or need. We did some cooking in and we lacked nothing the open concept provided great togetherness and conversation. When we didn't eat in we would visit the Becida Bar and Grill they are a family run business with awesome food and hospitality. By the time we finished our weekend away we not only reconnected with friends but made new friends as well. We are so thankful to have found this property and for Paulette's communication and hospitality.
We stayed at this house in mid Oct for the long MEA weekend (Wed-Sun). It was the perfect retreat for our family of 5 plus dog! Our kids are ages 13, 11 and 7. Communication with the owner was fabulous. She gave us lots of details regarding directions, how to get into the place as we arrived later in the evening, what to do, things we needed to know specific to the house. The house was absolutely beautiful, with all the amenities one could need, including a chef's kitchen. We brought food and cooked but a lot of "staples" were already there. The owner left us a wonderful "welcome basket" of wine, cheese, chocolates and crackers for our arrival, which was such a nice surprise. Fresh flowers were in vases. Lots of attention to detail. The house had plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The kids (and chocolate lab dog) explored the area, and even jumped in the lake (In Oct!). The water was a bit cold, so we decided not to go out on kayaks or the canoe, but they were available. We were "past peak" for leaves, but it was still so beautiful. On the last day it snowed! The location is great, we felt like we were alone in the woods. We explored Bemidji, hiked Itasca State Park, went to a hockey game, played lots of card games, board games, read, cooked and just hung out with the family. A perfect long weekend. Thank you! We will come back in the summer!!
Our property is in the Headwaters Region of northern Minnesota. We are equal distance from the college town of Bemidji and Itasca State Park, home to the Headwaters of the Mississippi. Don't miss photos of you and your group walking across the rocks at the start of the Mississippi! The dining, drinks, desserts, and views from Douglas Lodge's restaurant are all superb. We've taken Coborn's tour of Lake Itasca on a beautiful old ferry, complete with a lunch we picked up at the lodge. Well worth doing! Itasca Offers Hiking Trails, Bike Rentals & Trails, Swimming, Fishing, Watercraft Rentals (Canoe, Kayak, Fishing Boats, and Pontoons), Nature Programs, and Guided Tours(by Land or Water).
Forest Edge Winery in LaPorte is close enough for a day trip. They hold a big art fair at the winery every Aug. Talented Mn artists and food!
Other Activities: Dining, Shopping, Seasonal events in Bemidji, ice fishing, snowmobile, snowshoe, hike, use our canoes and kayak.
