This farm has been in my family since 1891 when my grandparents purchased the land from the Knapp-Stout Lumber Company. They cleared the land, built the farm, raised their family, and it has been the center of family activity since those days. In 2008 my husband and I completely renovated the house, inside and out, and it has since continued to provide the perfect gathering place for family and friends. We now would like to share this special place with you with the hope that you will enjoy your time in this special place as much as our family.
What a wonderful week-end! Diane and Richard are so welcoming and have provided everything you need, and more. The farmhouse is beautiful, quiet, very clean and comfortable. We spent alot of time in the lovely kitchen. We hope to come back again and will definitely recommend the farmhouse to friends and family.
I learned about this sight accidentally while searching places for a small group of ladies to get away. We decided upon the Farmhouse Retreat because it looked secluded, yet homey. It had the space we needed and only a couple hours away.
Once arriving we were pleasantly surprised. It was so much nicer than we could have expected. First I have to say meeting the owners was a pleasure. We enjoyed talking with them, they are really nice people. It's evident they want you to enjoy your stay.
The pictures are very nice, but you really don't get the whole feel of the place until you get there. The house has EVERYTHING you could possibly want or need. Kitchen is nicely decorated and was fully stocked with anything we needed to prepare our meals (not food of course) and a small tv. Bathrooms were nice sized and plenty of clean towels and nicely decorated. Living room had plenty of sitting space, with a t.v. and stereo. No Cable tv or internet though. A huge front porch with plenty of seating to look out at the tire swings in the front yard, or my favorite part...watching the cows next door. Bedrooms were nice sized with plenty of storage for your things. The beds were so comfortable. The garage is stocked with outdoor games to play. There is a lil area out back where you can make a small fire. We came in the fall and loved seeing all the beautiful colors outdoors in all directions. We would absolutely 100% recommend this place. We already agreed we want to come back. Our only issue was only one out of four of us was able to make/receive calls ...but that is going to happen due to being in a rural area. There is no internet, although it was frustrating not being able to use my IPad, at the same time...isn't that what getting away is all about? It's all in your perspective. We loved our stay. I know you will too.
This was very clean, spacious and more than we expected. We would recommend this place to anyone without hesitation. We enjoyed the quiet setting away from it all but not too far from town.
The farm house retreat was a great place to hang out, relax and read. We spent many hours on the front porch watching the birds and enjoying the weather.
Came to the Farmhouse Retreat for our annual Girls Weekend...looking for rest and relaxation away from jobs, husbands, kids, etc...It was heavenly! Quiet country was the best. Farmhouse had EVERYTHING we needed for the weekend - Many things we didn't have a chance to use. Everything was very clean and well-maintained...It was awesome! Will definatly come back, and will recommend to family and friends.
For more than 20 years, four of us close high school friends have found someplace annually to spend a weekend together to relax, reminisce, and revitalize. We have enjoyed lake cabins, B&B's, and hotel suites over the years, but after staying at this farmhouse, we all agreed that this is where we want to spend our time together every year! The place is clean and comfortable, with nice-sized bedrooms and bathrooms. We enjoyed our time together in the kitchen, which is a wonderful place to prepare meals while visiting with the others at the kitchen island or in the dining room. The porch was a perfect place to sip our morning coffee and plan our day. We are looking forward to returning next year, and might even try to find another weekend to stay at the farmhouse in a few months, before our next annual Girls Weekend!
During your stay at the Farmhouse Retreat enjoy the many outdoor activities available for you, such as badminton, croquet, horseshoes, ladder golf, youth and adult bikes. And there are a great many enjoyable activities nearby. For example, stop in at the huge weekly local Farmer's Market, visit many unique Antique stores and quaint shops in nearby towns, or try your luck at St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake. On your way to Turtle Lake stop at the Ellsworth Cheese Factory in Comstock to taste their famous Wisconsin cheeses. Don't forget to stop at Louie's Finer Meats, where their brats and meats are multi-year world champion winners. Or enjoy a short drive to Hayward, the home of the American Birkebeiner, Lumberjack World Championships, and the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum. There is always something fun to do at or near the Farmhouse Retreat.
