Our French Riviera apartment, ‘La Belle Époque’ is situated in the Old Town of Villefranche-sur-Mer, between Nice and Monaco. This holiday apartment has a large 11m sq.terrace with a superb view of the Bay of Villefranche and Cap Ferrat. The terrace is not overlooked. The ambiance of this pretty holiday home, is bright and elegant, created by high ceilings, the 'Belle Époque’ decor and the panoramic view of the Bay through the beautiful French windows which open onto the private terrace. The lounge is comfortably furnished with early twentieth century furniture and incorporates new kitchen fittings. The bedroom, with a modern double bed and period wardrobe also enjoys a bedside view of the Bay through French windows opening onto the terrace. The tiled bathroom has a bath with rain shower and a well-lit vanity unit and wall heater. The apartment comes with dual air conditioning, free WiFi & a gas barbecue. Ideal for a self catering holiday, dining 'al-fresco' on the terrace or just sipping a ' vin rosé ' observing the ever changing bay. It is in an excellent location close to shops, restaurants, ATM booths and public transport. It is a 10 minute ride to Nice or Monaco (bus every 15 minutes) and there are wonderful seaside walks at your doorstep.

* LIVING AREA & TERRACE* The attractive lounge is bright and airy with high ceilings and opens onto the terrace through full length traditional french windows. It is comfortably furnished with a three seater sofa-bed, an arm chair, a circular dining table and dining chairs for two. The south east facing terrace which catches the sun until about 1.30, is furnished with two wicker chairs with foot rests and a table suitable for al-fresco dining. Also a very popular Weber gas *BBQ* (gas supplied) and a retractable sunshade.

* KITCHEN* It is an all electric kitchen with modern appliances. The cooker includes a ceramic 4 ring hob, oven with grill and a single level dish-washer. There is a comprehensive selection of cooking utensils and a double set of table settings.

*HAIR DRYER * is supplied.

This is a lovely apartment right on the edge of the old town of Villefranche with a wonderful view of Cap Ferrat and the bay from the balcony. The balcony is perfect for sitting out and relaxing in the warm Mediterranean evenings. We spent a fabulous week there, with easy access to public transportation for day trips to surrounding towns such as Nice and Monaco. We took a wonderful day trip by train to Saorge, a perched village in the mountains.

Everything you need such as bakeries, supermarkets, and restaurants are within a short walk from the apartment. The kitchen is well stocked with everything needed for cooking so we had a nice mix of eating in and exploring the local restaurants.

The bathroom is bright and airy, and having a washing machine was great. The floor tiling echoes the wonderful colors of Provence and is very nicely accented by the furnishings. The welcoming fresh flowers were a lovely touch.

We would definitely book this apartment again and continue to work on our French.

We are a retired couple living in Ireland. We love holidaying in France especially the south of France for its ambiance, food and the outdoor activities especially the walking trails, 'les randones'.

Eamon purchased this apartment in 2006

We were wowed by the ' Provencal ' village atmosphere the first time we visited Villefranche in 2005 and were fortunate to find this apartment with a large terrace and fabulous views overlooking the Bay of Villefranche, located in the Old Town close to facilities and public transport. Untouched since the 1920's we have managed to retain the Provencal features while modernising the kitchen and bathroom facilities and furnishing it with ' turn of the century ' furniture.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a great location on the Cote d'Azur, close to Nice and Monaco with warmer and brighter winters than the south of Italy. It is has excellent public transport, a wonderful sandy beach, renowned restaurants which remain open all year and a good selection of food outlets and a weekly market.

Great Flat With A Great View!

My wife and I were very pleased to spend our first anniversary at this flat. The flat itself seems small at first, but offers more than enough space for a lazy week in Villefranche. The balcony, the highlight of the unit, is large and perfectly suited for enjoying the beautiful view.
The flat is well appointed with TV and modern kitchen. We used the oven, the stove, the fridge, the coffee maker and the washer with no complaints. The flat sits on a hill, a short (but fairly steep) walk to many restaurants/bars and the harbor. Everything we ate in town was delicious and the beach was great too.
Overall this was a great flat in a great town. We hope to come back soon!

The beauty of the Riviera framed your window

We have stayed in Nice on many occasions since 1973 and thought a more peaceful location nearby would make a pleasant change. We booked over the internet on the basis of the photos and description and were delighted that they proved 100% accurate.
The week we booked was part of a 7 week drive to apartments in France, Germany and Italy, including a week overlooking Lake Como near Menaggio. Our stay at the Belle Époque in Villefranche-sur-Mer was a clear winner and not just because we had good weather there, we were lucky in having good weather everywhere.
The apartment is extremely well located, a steady, but not extreme climb from the waterfront cafes, which is what we liked to help burn off the effects of a good lunch or dinner.
The bus stop for the local service to Nice and Monaco is very close and is a convenient, excellent and inexpensive (1.50 euros) way to visit those interesting places. Cap Ferat is not far away and can be reached by bus or on foot.
We took the train to Cannes from the Villefranche station which is not too far away from the apartment.
The apartment was clean, tidy and quiet with modern appointments blended effectively with traditional furniture which made it feel like it was our home. If there is one suggestion we would make, it is that a microwave oven would have been handy. We often purchased excellent pre-prepared meals from Picard which was about a 10 minute walk away. It just meant that we used the full oven which uses more electricity and is not quite as rapid, but that is a very minor point.
The view from the spacious verandah was exceptional and a lovely place for breakfast or evening drinks. Looking out first thing in the morning to see huge cruise liners moored close to shore in the bay was always spectacular.
A big positive was having Eamon's charming representative, Sue, meet us upon our arrival to explain all we needed to know about the apartment and making herself available to deal with any problems, even though we had no need for that service during our stay.
We were fortunate to snag a free parking spot near the apartment and did not move the car once. Being late September/early October may have had something to do with our luck on that score.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Belle Epoque to anyone and will, no doubt seek to stay there when we return to the Riviera. Great spot thanks Eamon.

Perfect view!

My husband and I spent a wonderful, relaxing week at this beautiful apartment. The view is fantastic, the restaurants are charming, and the people are delightful. It was so quite that my husband was able to get a lot of work done writing his next book. A visit to the Chapel St. Pierre, with amazing and unusual paintings by Jean Cocteau, is worth a visit in itself. But, nothing could top the wine on the terrace each evening watching the nightly fireworks. A perfectly equipped apartment in a beautiful setting. Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful apartment

We loved waking up every morning and walking to the local boulangerie just down the hill. Breakfast on the sunny balcony was the next treat. The apartment is very clean with an excellent queen bed. The picture accurately depicts the apartment. The kitchen is fairly well stocked with adequate cookware. The gas grill is a plus. We would definitely return for an even longer stay

An exceptional apartment in a superb location

WOW This was my first impression on entering the apartment in Villefranche.My first glance took in the most wonderful view from the balcony looking over the famous Cap Ferrat where the celebs live and holiday. I then turned my attention to the apartment and what a superb apartment it is - very well equipped and comfortable ,a spacious balcony and the luxury of accessing it from the bedroom as well as two accesses from the lounge. The lady who met us with the key was very helpful and knowledgeable.All in all a lovely holiday and suffice to say we are returning next year along with our family who will be staying in the next door two bed apartment also owned by the same person.

our favourite apartment

this was our second stay in this outstanding apartment, I apologize, Eileen and Eamon, that it has taken so long to post a review. Our first stay was in winter months and had a distinct charm with fewer tourists and a more laid-back feel. This time we wanted to experience the area in another season so chose early fall, a perfect time to go. The apartment is probably our favourite of the many vacation rentals we have booked in many countries. The air is crystal clear which enhances the view from the balcony. We thoroughly enjoyed waking up to find cruise ships in the harbour which we could see from the bedroom. The apartment is spotless and meticulously maintained, well equipped and close to transport, shops and restaurants. We were wiser this time and did not rent a car, we learned from our first stay that it was a waste because buses and trains are frequent, efficient, close and reasonably priced. Sue, the manager, remembered us and was a treasure in helping with a medical situation. We stayed in this apartment for three weeks plus another week in their adjacent two bedroom apartment which is equally as special. We will definitely return again!

Villefranche Bay is popular for scuba diving and snorkelling and other water sports. There are many scenic coastal walks for all levels of walkers and the adjoining mountains have many way marked routes for the more adventurous.

Popular day trips include Monaco for its Casino and F1 Grand Prix at the end of May, Nice for the Old Town, Promenade des Anglais, shopping and art galleries, Cannes for the glitz, Paul de Vence for art, Ventimiglia for its market, and the old hilltop village of Eze.

Centrally located, the apartment is a 5 minute walk from restaurants, shops including bakeries, supermarkets, greengrocers, pharmacies, ATM, bus-stop, car park and 10 minutes to the beach, train station or l'Institute de Francais

ACTIVITIES

Villefranche has a 1 km long south facing sandy beach which is ideal for swimming (life guards in Summer) sunbathing or just building sand castles. Parallel with the beach is the promenade which is very popular with walkers all year long. The bay is noted for snorkelling and scuba diving.

There are wonderful coastal and hill walking routes. The coastal walk around Cap Ferrat is a must as is a visit to Villa Rothschild and Gardens. The hill walks take you into the foothills of the Alp Maratime affording magnificent views of the coastline from Menton to Cannes and passing through many 'villages perches'

There are attractive antique bedside tables with individual reading lamps. The antique wardrobe with full length mirror provides ample shelving and hanging for clothes for two people. The bedroom opens onto the terrace through french windows providing magic views of the bay as you wake up. The room has a reversible air conditioning unit and an electric wall heater for the winter nights. The sofa bed in the lounge is adequate for children including teenagers. It is necessary to take a few minutes to fold it away during the day as it impedes use of the lounge area.
