Santa Fe House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4 adults-NO CHILDREN!)

This is what our guests are saying about Casa Estrella, a lovingly-restored historic adobe surrounded by walled gardens at the end of a private lane in the heart of Santa Fe’s Historic Eastside.

SPECIAL NOTE: Please read the 50+ reviews under 'Guestbook comments from the property manager' which can be accessed by clicking 'Manager Info' on the button bar on the first page of VRBO. On HomeAway they appear just under the description on the first page. A recent policy change by VRBO and HomeAway removed these from the REVIEWS section and made them less accessible to viewers.

Our casita is only a five minute walk to Canyon Road the epicenter of Santa Fe's finest galleries and restaurants. Stroll to the Plaza in fifteen minutes or less. Explore four world class museums on Museum Hill within 1.3 miles. The Santa Fe Opera is less than six miles away and SkiSantaFe is only 16 miles. The Railyard arts and entertainment district is minutes from the casita.

This authentic casita has been totally redone and has been filled with new and antique furnishings and stainless steel appliances in a contemporary New Mexico style. There are double-adobe walls, 9' beamed ceilings, hand-troweled, diamond plaster walls, skylights, wide-plank pine and white oak floors, and Saltillo tile throughout the casita. French doors in the kitchen lead to a ramada-shaded outdoor dining area and our extensive garden areas. The master suite has heated floors, a top-of-the-line Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe mattress and comfy spa linens.

Warm yourself by the kiva fireplace in the living room on chilly Santa Fe nights. Enjoy a gourmet-equipped kitchen, with a dining table seating up to six. The two lovely bedrooms include a master suite with a California King bed, en-suite dressing area and bath plus a guest bedroom with a King bed and modest shower bath. There is a full-size stacking washer/dryer in the utility area.

Casa Estrella is filled with original signed Native American and Southwestern art and is surrounded by lovely garden areas on four sides. Relax to the sounds of our 'Valentine's' natural rock fountain or our Stone Forest millstone fountain. Find “Sanctuary,” an original sculpture by renowned artist Bill Worrell, in the garden. The landscaping is softly illuminated for truly enchanting Santa Fe evenings and professionally maintained.

The casita has DirectTV, free streaming Netflix movies, ROKU TV, high-speed wifi, a Bose SoundWave CD player with an iPhone/iPod adapter and two 30” flat panel HD TVs.

The gardens are perfect for romantic evenings for two, entertaining outdoors or the solitude a quiet garden can provide. Within the privacy of adobe and coyote walls are three garden areas. The coffee/cocktail garden is shaded by a large plum and a mature Russian olive tree. A cocktail table, seating for four, two zero-gravity lounge chairs and a chimenea with plenty of firewood are provided for our guests’ pleasure. Enjoy meals, cocktails and conversation around the dining table for six in the shade of a ramada in another area of the gardens. The front portal offers day-long shade and refuge during Santa Fe monsoon rains and winter snow showers.

In season, savor fruit from the casita’s apple, apricot, peach and plum trees or make a cobbler. The house and gardens are completely private and enclosed by adobe walls and coyote fences. Aspen trees line the drive along the casita’s outer wall. During the season, the gardens and landscaping are lush and are professionally maintained year-round. For your time indoors, the casita is cooled with remote-controlled air conditioners and heated by radiant in-floor and baseboard systems.

This very popular property is perfect for romantic escapes, “girlfriend getaways,” art and museum jaunts, outdoor adventures or all combined. Casa Estrella is best suited for one or two couples! Smoking, children nor pets are allowed.

The casita is 1250 s.f. in size and sits on almost a quarter of an acre. Casa Estrella has a current City Short Term Rental permit #:13-00118458

Guestbook comments from the manager
Ed, thanks for the restaurant tip. We are having a great time, and especially enjoying your home. It is so comfortable and well appointed. We have spent both mornings and late afternoons in your yard with the hummingbirds. I especially like your stone water feature, and have been thinking of doing something similar for our new construction in Costa Rica. Today we went to the International Folk Art Market and I found a beautiful, handmade rug that will be going home with me. Right as we were ready to head for the shuttle bus the sky opened up. We tried to wait it out under the protection of a tent, but eventually braved the storm and got soaked to the skin - just part of the adventure! Locals were commenting that it "never rains like this".

We are both auctioneers and work long hours, so when we travel, we like to do it right. We seek out upscale, interesting hotels, lodges and vacation rentals. We love fresh air, beautiful gardens, and all varieties of nature, climates and cultures and try to discover new, unique and soulful experiences in exciting places. We love good food and are experimenting cooks. We dine in the finest restaurants in each destination and particularly enjoy discovering off-the-beaten-path, hidden, local and out-of-the-way gems. We hate fast food. We are daily walkers and seek out romantic sunsets wherever we are. Marilyn loves the outdoors and is an avid reader. Ed skis, kayaks, scuba dives, and likes to fish although all fish are safe in his presence. We both like southwestern and Native American art, museums and galleries of all types.

Ed purchased this house in 2008

When we decided to buy a second vacation home, we considered several of our favorite travel destinations, places to which we seemed to return repeatedly. For exploration, outdoor activities and relaxation, we love the central Oregon coast, Squaw Valley and North Lake Tahoe, Ruidoso and, of course, Santa Fe/Taos. As we evaluated each location and which place offered the most romantic, magic, spiritual qualities and in which location would we be happiest spending time long term. What area offered the most varied, yet agreeable climate year around? Where could we experience the greatest intellectual and recreational stimulation? All of a sudden the answer became obvious: Santa Fe. Where else in the U.S. could one find a settlement with 400 years of history blending three distinct cultures, the Native American, the Spanish Colonial and the northern European? What other place has the combined beauty of the arid northern New Mexican desert, the majesty of the Sangre de Christo and Jemez mountains, the lush, fertile ribbon of the Rio Grande? Where else provides the broad range of archeological sites and cultural traditions to enjoy and explore? In what other resort area can a person find any wider array of educational experiences, arts and entertainment such as Museum Hill, the Santa Fe Opera, the Lensic Performing Arts Center, the new Railyard District and a wide variety of performance venues including theatres, playhouses, and an amphitheatre. How can one compare the unique scope and variety of galleries and shops of Santa Fe to any other place? What other city can match the combination of cultural choices and outdoor recreational opportunities offered by the Santa Fe area: sightseeing, snow skiing, kayaking and rafting, water skiing, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, archeological exploration, hot air ballooning and so on? What other city has a wonderful, 100 year-old neighborhood gourmet market and two Whole Foods Markets?

We bought the very best two bedroom vacation rental on the market, and we looked at plenty. The location is ideal, and the combination of features offered by this casita makes it unique to the area. It is a restored original “Pueblo Revival' or 'Santa Fe Style' adobe in the Eastside Historic District, the Camino del Monte Sol Historic District and the Garcia Historic District. It is within easy walking distance of the most important destinations along Canyon Road and the downtown plaza area. We found this casita to be immaculate, in excellent condition, beautifully furnished, very well maintained and ever so romantic.

We fell in love with the gardens at first sight. Even before we went in the house, we knew this was the perfect place for us. Once inside, we found the cutest casita we had ever seen, but the private outdoor spaces are what we love most. The garden areas are exceptionally large for the Historic District and offer four distinct areas for entertaining friends and family or for a romantic evening for two. Adobe walls and coyote fences completely enclose the casita and three distinct gardens for complete privacy. The gardens are perfect for dining and cocktails al fresco or for enjoying the sounds of a summer night. The lounge area is shaded by a bearing plum tree and a large Russian olive tree. This garden has a cocktail table with seating for four plus two Zero Gravity lounge chairs and a chimenea. There is a lovely flagstone patio shaded by a new ramada (pergola) with dining for six. Sit under the front portal and enjoy the smell of a summer rain or the peaceful whisper of a snowfall. A fourth garden shaded by giant apple and apricot trees lies along the Aspen-lined drive bordering the casita’s outer wall. In season, savor fruit from the casita’s apple, apricot, peach and plum trees. Outdoor sculptures abound throughout the gardens. We continue to add art and additional plantings to enhance the outdoor enjoyment of our guests and ourselves.

We visited Santa fe with our 17 year old granddaughter and stayed at Casa Estrella. We have been staying in Santa Fe casitas for 20 years, and this was the best ever: great location on Garcia Street, lovely and serene gardens, comfortably furnished and well supplied, beautiful Southwestern art inside and outside, Wi-Fi & Netflix, easy-to-use security system. It doesn't get any better than this. Thank you Ed, Marilyn, and Kokopelli.

Owner's Response: Ken and Ildi, Marilyn and I are so pleased that you enjoyed Santa Fe and Casa Estrella so much. We have been so fortunate to have guests as wonderful as the two of you. Our casita seems to attract people with similar tastes and sensibilities for what we are striving to achieve in terms of beauty, peace and tranquility with easy access to the excitement, sites, sounds, tastes and adventures of Santa Fe and the surrounding areas.

We hope your granddaughter had a wonderful experience as well. Our young adults are exposed to so many stimuli these days they can be very hard to impress.

We would be honored to have you return to our humble casita and remember "Nuestra casa es su casa!" M&E

My stay at Casa Estrella became an oasis in the midst of Christmas exertion! Being enveloped in the surroundings, which included music accessibility, amazing artwork, cozy fireplace, scrumptious linens, charming neighborhood, delightful kitchen with all amenities at my fingertips meant hardly ever leaving the house to find outside entertainment. Decided to take homemade Christmas gifts project with me, and found this extraordinary space so serene and inspiring, I accomplished my goals with soup on the stove and wine in my hand. On these cold winter days, I feasted further on the sun through the many windows, the view of sage, adobe, sculptures, luminaries, this convenient and QUAINT neighborhood for walking. . . nothing more could have been added! The owners made several suggestions that would have taken me to great dining and entertainment in town, checked on me while I was there, and made me feel so welcomed. I hope they take this as the ultimate compliment, that not even Santa Fe and it's ambience could entice me to leave Casa Estrella. Consider yourself blessed (as I do) to have found this website!

Owner's Response: Anne also sent a nice note we just found in a Christmas card. We quote:

"Dear Ed and Marilyn, My stay at Casa Estrella has been a private retreat-these inspired surroundings have restored a weary soul! I've painted for three days, listening to music, and watching the Hallmark channel. Also discovered the amazing talent of Don Weller because of you! Hope this little token of my stay communicates the joy of being here. Blessings for the season and New Year." The token is a lovely watercolor Anne painted for us which is now on display in the casita. Don Weller paints wonderful western-themed watercolors. We have one hanging in the master bedroom. (Marilyn could have been the model for the woman in the painting it is such a perfect likeness in profile.) Ed

Two couples, early November, leaves turning and we chose the ideal place for our four-day getaway.
On arrival, after dark, we entered a warm and inviting space with Carlos Nakai on the stereo, candles flickering in the windows, fire laid out in the kiva, and the feeling that we were cherished guests.
From the exceptional art collection displayed so beautifully throughout the home, to the finishing touches in the bedrooms, the quality electronics, well-equipped kitchen, and the amazing grounds (new pergola is a wonderful addition for morning coffee), we were enchanted. Cannot beat the location, in a quiet neighborhood but excellent proximity to Canyon Road. We will return.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the wonderful review, Deborah. That is exactly the way we feel about you and our other guests, and we are so happy you had such a good time and enjoyed Casa Estrella as much as we do. I can assure you that the next time you visit there will be subtle and maybe not so subtle changes: artwork, landscaping or amenities. We continue to find things and have new ideas each visit and want to continue to enhance our guests' experience. Thank you so much for the picture of the new pergola in the snow. We had not seen it like that since it was built this fall. It may interest you to know that I talked to our housekeeper last week, and she said our guests just "rave, rave, rave" about the casita, but it is nice to hear it from you first hand. We hope you make many future visits to Casa Estrella. Please call me when you know the probable dates so I can save them for you. Fond regards, Marilyn and Ed

This is a beautiful casita in a wonderful and quite location. We walked to the plaza in 15 minutes and to Canyon Road in 5 minutes. The Santa Fe shuttle stops on Canyon Road, so you would not even have to walk. The furnishings are beautiful, the large courtyard a fabulous plus (also beautifully landscaped and furnished). This home is a great find and you will not be disappointed.

Owner's Response: Owner's Note: This guest owned a travel agency for 20 years, owns a B&B and travels frequently all over the world. She remains involved in the agency and stays in the best accommodations, eats at the finest restaurants, and seeks out the special, unique and unusual for her clients during her explorations. We are so pleased to have such a glowing review from an experienced "professional tourist." This review truly reflects our efforts to provide our guests with the "quintessential" Santa Fe experience. We strive to continue to improve the guest experience and value honest criticism and feedback from our guests. Within the past month, we have installed significant new plantings in the garden areas, added art and sculpture indoors and in the gardens. We are in the process of re-stuccoing the entire casita and perimeter adobe walls. We added two canopied chaise lounge chairs in the cocktail garden for shaded napping and reading during our recent trip to SF.
