Welcome to the Low Country and slightly off the beaten path antebellum Beaufort, South Carolina. You've seen it in movies like Prince of Tides, Forrest Gump, or the Big Chill. This area is steeped in history with Charleston 70 minutes to the North and Savannah, Georgia 45 minutes to the South. A gradual and continuing 'discovery', which started here in the 1970's, has given Beaufort some fine restaurants and night life, but the pace is more relaxed than on famous Hilton Head Island, 35 minutes away.
Parris Island, with its Marine recruit depot, is 10 minutes away. Our house is very popular with families in town for Parris Island graduations. We offer a refund if, for any reason, the recruit cannot graduate as planned.
Our house sits on a high bluff which allows a furnished basement with a 9 foot slate pool table. Its view through the sliding glass door is of the fully fenced backyard sloping down to the live oak guarded marsh. The upstairs single story house is light and cheerful due to an open floor plan, lots of glass, skylights and celestial windows. The Master bedroom (with huge Master Bath) and the Great Room (with a Buck wood burning stove) face the marsh and river with an expansive westerly sunset view.
The kitchen and eating area have the same view through the dining room with its walls of glass that make you feel you can reach out and touch the river. An 8 foot wide porch (with 3 ceiling fans) that runs the length of the house faces a landscaped front yard.
The dock (with water, lights and electricity) comes off one corner of the backyard and offers easy access to the river and pristine marsh. The backyard has hosted numerous oyster roasts and crab boils. Shrimp, fish, and crabs can be caught off the dock (permit free).
The large floating dock has 6 feet of water at dead low tide (and 12 or more at high tide). A boat towed to the area can be launched at a close-by landing and following a 10 minute trip, tied up at the dock. Open ocean is about 30 minutes away with numerous fishing reefs easily accessible, or travel by boat to Hilton Head or Savannah relatively quickly.
This house is in a quiet residential neighborhood. Ride bikes that are provided, or jog or walk around the tree shaded mile-long oval that runs the perimeter of this older subdivision. Sitting on the front porch or the dock is always a treat.
Great value golf is available to the public at several courses in the area. Bluffton and Hilton Head offer world class golf at higher prices. Downtown Beaufort is about 10 minutes away and the public ocean beach at Hunting Island State Park with lighthouse, fishing pier, camping and nature walks is 30 minutes beyond. We provide a State Park Pass for free of charge access.
Beds: 2 queen pillowtops, 2 double beds
"Wow, that's the only word that came to mind when we arrived from PA. Thank you so much for opening this retreat to us... the stress released as soon as we opened the door to your lovely home. It was awesome to share it with family and friends to celebrate our Marine's graduation!!"
From the moment we drove up to the house, I felt like I was at home, not at a vacation rental. The well furnished living room welcomes you after a long day at the beach or sightseeing in Beaufort. The kitchen was well stocked with about everything you could need, and eating breakfast overlooking the water was amazing!
My wife and I loved the master bedroom with the huge Jacuzzi tub, and the hot tub on the deck. Were were a party of 7, and there was plenty of room for all. We played pool on the table in the basement, and laughed at how terrible we all were. We sat on the dock and went crabbing, and watched breathtakingly beautiful sunsets. We enjoyed the hot tub, and the gnarly oaks in the back yard. Downtown Beaufort is only minutes away, so we enjoyed time at the waterfront park, and local restaurants, We went to the beach at Hunting Island, and saved about $50 with the included park pass!
The house was clean and well maintained, and well furnished. Ginnie, the owner, was as friendly as can be, and the property manager addressed our one concern very quickly.
You will be happy that you chose this house as your lowcountry getaway. And if you aren't a little sad when you leave, something is wrong!
it was a pleasure staying at your your home, thank you for sharing it with my family and our new Marine, everything was perfect, sunsets out of this world, just at it was described and more.
We recently stayed at this home for our son's Marine Corp graduation, what a great place to stay!! The location was wonderful, and the views were beautiful. I would recommend this property to everyone. Ginnie and Bill were really great people to work with, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with my family.
Oh my Ginnie! We LOVED your home!!! I am so sorry I haven't emailed you, we have been a little busy.
Your home is so wonderful. The evening views are just spectacular! We have some beautiful sunset pictures!
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us and we will definitely want to go back!
I have already forwarded your rental info on to several people and told them how wonderful your home is!
What an absolutely beautiful piece of property, inside and out! My sister andd I felt completely at home and welcomed in this warm inviting home. We observed a dolphin swimming just a few feet away one evening while we were dangling our feet off the private dock as the sun was beginning to set. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and left feeling refreshed after relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. Wonderful dinners and tours in downtown Beaufort, rich in history and beauty as well. The owners made our stay easy and definitely worth the price. Thank you for such a memorable experience. Can't wait to return to the area!
My family enjoyed our long weekend in your relaxing home. We loved the dock and sunsets. We fished and caught a few sting rays, sharks, salt water gar, whiting and flounder. We also had a dolphin sighting at least every evening. We also liked the fully furnished kitchen, linens being included, the gameroom and the front porch.
Location was great. Only a few minutes from Beaufort downtown but far enough to be peaceful.
We did try the seafood restaurant dockside but was not impressed. We also tried Plums and really enjoyed it as it is right on the waterfront downtown and wonderful food.
We did a day trip out to Hunting Island and it was one of the highlights of our trip. It is easy to get to and an enjoyable ride. The park itself is beautiful!
The only downside was the basement did have a mildew smell and we could not stay down there long but this was minor. We didn't spend much time down here as we were usually enjoying the outside or upstairs. The cleanliness of upstairs was great and very comfortable.
Booking was easy. Ginnie accepted my many emails with questions and she also has a binder in the home with helpful info on the area. Wonderful little extra touch.
Overall rated this rental as excellent because it truly was a great place. Would recommend this rental to anyone and would love to stay here again one day.
Thank you Ginnie for allowing us to stay in your home.
