Photos and Description of the Mawgan Porth vacation farmhouse rental
2 to 4 bedrooms, sleeps 4,8 or 9 people in 2 houses and1 cottage by the sea

Porth Farm House, Porth Farm Annex and Lane cottage are part of an old farm that was converted to self catering holiday accommodation the 1930's and has been gently upgraded since.

Situated in several acres on the undeveloped side of the coast road and 600 metres from the beach, they are south facing and have lovely views of the valley and the sea .

Over the years our customers have found it an ideal place for children to be independent within safe but stimulating surroundings while parents can have a good rest.

There is a large shared grassy play area with swings, a zip wire and an old wooden boat.

There is also a table tennis room. Art classes are run in the summer holidays for children.

PORTH FARM is open all year round. Open fires and cosy interiors make it an excellent place for off-season breaks.

5 minutes walk from a beautiful sandy beach and stunning cliff walks as well as pub, cafe, tennis courts, pitch & putt, restaurant & shops.Farm shops are 15 minutes walk away.

PORTH FARM HOUSE( 4 bedrooms ,sleeps 8 )

Tucked into the hillside at the end of the lane the house is south facing, with a sunny lawn and superb views out to sea and inland over the lovely Lanherne valley, with the moors in the distance.

originally owned by an acclaimed architect who re-modelled the house in the 30's with a unique eye. It is a sunny warm house, with two double bedrooms (one with a dressing room), one twin bedded room and one with bunks; all with fitted carpets; three have wash basins. Also on the first floor is the bathroom and separate w/c.

Stairs open into a large living room, with beams and a polised oak floor. The sitting end has three loose-covered sofas. At the other end is a dining table and serving hatch to the kitchen.

The front door is protected by a porch with space for coats, wellingtons etc

There are some nice cedar-wood doors and window sills, a large desk under the west window and an old piano.

The kitchen has a huge old teak draining board with double sinks,a stone sink, pine dresser and a large slate shelved larder. Also a fridge freezer, electric cooker and washing machine. A back door leads to a coal shed and w/c with a summer shower.

A storage heater gives background warmth.

Bed linen is provided only .

PORTH FARM ANNEXE ( 4 bedrooms ,sleeps 9 )

Adjoining Porth Farm and built into the hillside, this house was once the dairy . It has been extended over a garage to create a large sunny open -plan room, .It has a polished maple floor and

big south facing windows giving wonderful views over valley and sea .

Furnishing includes easy chairs , a desk and a fine helm fine table .

The front door opens into a grassy sun-trap carved into the hill , with steps leading down the lane.

A pine partition forms an alcove , curtained to make a double bedroom . A teak counter and pine shelves divides the dining area from he kitchen which catches all the morning sunshine.

It has a larder , stainless double sink , teak draining board, cooker and fridge, etc. A stable door opens onto the grassy hillside ,with handy washing line and steps to the play area.

through the thick wall a door and landing takes you to the bathroom and wc, and a carpeted bedroom with double and single bed,

Down the stairs is a lobby for coats etc. With a door to the garage, a door to a large shower room and another to a double bedroom. Beyond the double bedroom is a bunk bedroom and off this again a w/c with washing machine and sink.

There is a night storage heater in the living room, another downstairs and electiric fires.

LANE COTTAGE ( 2 bedrooms, sleeps 4 )

Situated down the lane from the annex, lane cottage has south facing windows opening onto a lawn giving wide views of the Lanherne valley and the sea.

A small bathroom with w/c and a double bedroom open off the living room.

From the bedroom a short, steep, narrow, cupboard staircase leads up to a low, sloping cielinged attic room with two single beds and a sea view. Perhaps more suitable for children.

Situated in several acres on the undeveloped side of the coast road and 600 metres from the beach, Porth Farm House, Annexe and Lane Cottage are south facing and have lovely views of the valley and the sea .

Mawgan Porth is a wide sandy bay on the north coast of Cornwall about half way between Newquay and Padstow. It forms the seaward end of the lovely Vale of Lanherne running into St. Mawgan and St. Columb. The beach is flanked by high cliffs, rocks and caves with a stream winding down one side and a small waterfall on the other. The surfing is good, with an excellent surf school, and beach guards are on duty throughout the summer. The cliffs for several miles around are protected by the National Trust including the magnificent scenery at Bedruthan Steps just along the road among a number of other fine beaches. There are many splendid walks, a favourite being the footpath to picturesque St. Mawgan, one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall, and dating from the Middle Ages. We are 30 minutes drive from the Eden Project. In the local area are surf schools, riding stables, golf courses, a go-kart track .Mawgan Porth now boasts several excellent restaurants, a well-stocked grocery shop a fish and chip shop, a cafe and pubs. There are also two farm shops - one organic.

. The surf mecca of Newquay is 5 miles to the south west and offers all the facilities of a seaside town with the usual supermarkets, banks, pharmacies etc. Between us and Newquay is Watergate Bay with it's kite surfing and Jamie Oliver's 15.

5 miles to the north we have the ancient fishing town of Padstow with the lobster hatchery, deep sea fishing and a variety of boat trips, cycling on the Camel trail and Rick Stein's restaurant. A ferry across the estuary, busy with boats, takes you to Rock, where there is a sailing school and golf course.

Handy for Newquay airport, with flights from Gatwick, Stansted and several others.

Other Activities: Kite surfing, surfing, go karting, golf, horse riding, cliff walks.

Charming characterful cornish delight

5 of 5
Submitted: March 20, 2013 Stayed: February 2013
We have stayed at Lane Cottage, the Farm house and more recently the Annex property. All 3 are charming, rustic, quiet, family friendly and beautifully located.
We stayed at Lane Cottage as a couple but have come back as a family on several occasions and feel that the setting is as suited to couples, families of any age, or groups of friends.
Within easy walking distance of the facitlies and beach of Mawgan Porth as well as a couple of minutes from the lovely Park Restaurant these properties are ideally situated with the most amazing views.
The Annex in particular has fantastic sea views on both sides of the living area - so beautiful and tranquil.

Our latest stay was with our 2 children aged 4 & 7 and they absolutely love it here. There is lots of safe space for them to run around, feel free, and the whole vibe of the place is very relaxed and informal. The kids can play and we can enjoy a relaxed glass of wine with an amazing view.
Everyone that stays here seems very friendly, while respecting each others space and the owners are a delightful and helpful family.
Internally the properties have kept their charm with a rustic, relaxed feel and the little personal touches like the beautiful art on the wall really do make the difference.
We really believe there is no better place to stay in Mawgan Porth.
As a base Mawgan Porth is fantastic. Newquay and Padstow just down the road. Lovely cliff top walk to Jamie Oliver's Fifteen or Bedruthen steps. Lots of great restaurants, lovely pubs beautiful walks and amazing beaches.
This was the first time we have visited out of season and we liked it just as much as in the warmer months. We were warm in the Annex but loved walking on the quiet beaches and getting wrapped up to go out in the cold.
As a family we love to travel and have taken our children to many different countries - but we also keep finding ourselves coming back to these properties in Mawgan Porth - their charm is quite captivating.
We will be back in August.............

Great escape

Submitted: September 8, 2009 Stayed: August 2009
We had a fantastic long weekend there with our three children and we were all made to feel welcome. The cottage was cosy and well stocked with basic homely items, there was even a french press as well as a teapot!

The children enjoyed the playground immensely and were never made to feel unwanted, even when they were running around playing chase. The property is within a short stroll of the beach and shops as well as lots of tourist sites within Cornwall. Highly recommended, can't wait to get back there!
