About Ben Hartmann (www.rockhousehideaway.com)
I've always been an outdoor lover, and I must admit a rancher at heart. I did not hesitate to purchase these 20 acres that are right outside Fredericksburg when I had the chance. The Hill Country is beautiful and given my family is from there, it made perfect sense for me to own a piece of it. The 1896 Rock House is absolutely stunning! I have always loved rock homes given both sets of my grandparents were raised in them. The stars seem to be as close as the ground you walk on, the deer are close by and you really feel like you are miles out of town when its less than 1/4 mile from the city limits. (Only a 3 minute drive to downtown main street.) The Rock House Hideaway is a real experience, and one I am sure you will love. One that I'm sure will bring you back time and time again. Let me know how I can help make your vacation in Fredericksburg a memorable one for years to come!

Guestbook comments from the owner
Our extended family, all ten of us, recently stayed at The Rock House Hideaway and were so pleased with this home. We are very selective about where we stay, and this place exceeded our expectations! It provided a lot of space, both indoor and out, for us to do all that we wanted to do while in Fredericksburg. We cooked together, read books, relaxed, talked, laughed, danced and even flew kites on the 20 acres of property surrounding the home. The home provided enough space for all of us to gather in the common areas, but it also provided plenty of room for those who wanted to find a quiet place to read. Our children even found a "secret passageway" between two bedrooms. The home was built in 1865 and retains the character and charm of that period, yet it lacks nothing of today's modern conveniences. We loved the old door fixtures, the thick rock walls, the painted stairs, the old transoms, the wood floors, the beautiful fixtures in the bathrooms, including the claw foot tubs, the top-of-the-line kitchen appliances and the beautiful furnishings throughout. It truly was a pleasure to stay in this home, and it was a pleasure working with the owner to secure our rental of this wonderful property. Staying in this home added so much to our family trip. I highly recommend it to anyone who desires a beautiful home in Fredericksburg with outdoor space to enjoy and a close proximity to downtown, yet one who appreciates the feeling of being miles away in a wonderful, country setting. It is truly a treasure, and I'm so glad we found it!
