Panoramic views of the Sandy River from the great room, dining room and kitchen.

An unforgettable mountain retreat where the views, sounds and smells of the river and trees will reconnect you to your senses….

Sink into the serene and charming Wildwood River Cabin - an ideal mountain getaway less than an hour's drive from Downtown Portland. Just a few feet in front of the Sandy River, the cabin sits nearly secluded on its aged lot amongst towering fir, pine and cedar trees. From the great room you will see and hear the water as it gently winds its way down the mountain.

The knotty pine walls, vaulted ceilings and custom pine woodwork throughout the cabin make it an especially warm and cozy retreat for you and your loved ones. The open great room includes a clear-glass woodstove and a wall of windows offering a panoramic view of the river through the wildwoods. Outside, take a soak in the hot tub under the trees while sinking into the sights, smells and sounds of the mountain.

We warmly welcome you to the Wildwood River Cabin for a treat that will relax and restore you...

Linda & Christy & Lucille P.S. A very dog-friendly place.

* What a beautiful home you have here! We were in awe as we entered the cabin. The entire setting was restful and replenished the spirit. Our family had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Thank you. We hope to be back again.

The Mellin Family

* What a perfect peaceful honeymoon spot after a frantic wedding-planning month! We spent most of the week in the kitchen (and hot tub!) We will miss the sound of the river and the silence of the cell phones! We’ll be back for anniversaries!!

The Brand-New Vogt’s

* This place is so beautiful we did not want to leave. The kids and dog had so much fun playing in the yard with the snow and throwing rocks in the river. Thank you for sharing your home!

The Kind Carson Family

* The view out of the window every morning is so peaceful and serene. The weekend was the calm and restful mini vacation that we were really needing. Thank you, we will be back.

Dave and Terri

* Wonderful, splendid, pleasant, amazing, beautiful, cozy, warm… The sound of the river is soothing to my ears… the kitchen was too inviting, ate way too much good food, hot tub was hot, river was cold…the warmth of the surroundings made us both feel at home. The selection of games in the closet is fantastic.. Yahtzee is my new favorite game, as were the horseshoes.. so much fun!! Got a lot accomplished before 10am.. more than back in the city! Will definitely be back soon…best wishes Adam & Suzy

*Thank you for a lovely place to enjoy this beautiful wilderness. We’ll be back again and again. – Jen & Pete

*Wonderful. Relaxing. Idylic. Rested – couldn’t ask for more. Warm Thanks, Zoe & Lura

About Lili

I'm a small business owner living with my family in Portland Oregon. I practice Acupuncture + Chinese Medicine and absolutely LOVE the outdoors! Pictured here with me is our son Jensen and our malamute puppy Akino. :)

Lili purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Lili chose Brightwood

We chose Mount Hood because of it's proximity to Portland and all of the wonderful outdoor activities available there. In less than an hour we can be up at the cabin enjoying the hot tub by the river!

We chose the property because out of all of the properties on the market at the time, this one by far had the best views of the river and the most privacy/ seclusion. The sounds of the river too were so loud you could even here them throughout the cabin!

What makes this cabin unique

This property is stunning - we fell in love the moment we passed from the driveway side of the property to the river side of the property. Evergreens and poplars cover almost the full acre of land, the views and sounds of the river were so potent and in front of the cabin across the river there is green space - all giving my partner and I the sense that we were a million miles from the Portland although we'd been in the office only a hour or so before getting there!

Words, even pictures, can't fully describe what a peaceful and restorative experience this place offers. This, combined with the fact that it takes less than an hour to get there from downtown Portland, and we were sold!

Lovely quiet relaxation

  • 5 of 5
We've just returned from a stay at the cabin; it was a much-needed quiet space for rest (and work, of course!).

Although you might worry as you drive into a neighborhood that the cabin isn't secluded, don't. The setting is such that it feels quite private, what with trees and fences on the property edges to create a lovely little space. There's a well-trod path along the river that you can follow (and which others do too, so expect to see a person or two occasionally walking past at the river's edge). The sound of the river is beautiful, and makes you feel nestled in the woods.

The cabin itself is cozy, clean, and simple. We only used one of the bedrooms, but slept excellently so I assume both beds are comfy! The kitchen has the basics (a collection of pots and pans, plenty of nice dinnerware); the only things I missed having were a rubber spatula and my own (sharper) knives. But for a cabin weekend, you'll be fine. It's all easy to find and intuitively organized, something I appreciate when visiting an unfamiliar kitchen.

After we'd made the reservation, I ended up spraining my ankle very badly (still in a walking boot or on crutches) so I wasn't able to take advantage of hikes in the area. However, my temporary disability really made me appreciate the fully accessible shower, complete with a fold-down bench. You've got the hot tub outside to soak in if you miss having a bath (and the hot tub's way better!).

Overall, this is a great choice if you want to get into the woods but don't have the time to go far from Portland. It's also a great base for going farther east towards Mt. Hood and doing hiking and/or skiing, depending on the season. Perfect for a couple, or a couple of couples, you'll enjoy some low-key relaxation to the sound of the Sandy.

Fabulous property in convenient location to Mount Hood activities

  • 5 of 5
A super nice cabin, clean cozy with all the amenities we needed on a beautiful piece of property. The cabin is lovely with all wood walls and cabinets. We were just 2 of us, but there are 2 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to move around in. Comfy leather sofas, nice kilm rugs and the most amazing view outside the living room window onto the wooded backyard with the Sandy river. The sound of the river is so soothing, we enjoyed seeing hawks, deer and ducks all along the river (luckily for the ducks, not at the same time as the hawks.) We stayed here for 1 week making this a home base to explore the Mount Hood and Columbia river gorge areas. We went on multiple hikes and drives and on a rainy day enjoyed relaxing at the cabin with books and getting into the hot tub which overlooks the river under a shelter. Divine! The owner was easy to work with from the get go - all instructions were easy to follow and were common sense. We had a wonderful vacation and would highly recommend this rental.

Lovely & peaceful retreat setting

Lovely & peaceful retreat setting
  • 5 of 5
This was a beautiful & peaceful setting for a 5 sister retreat. We appreciated the river view and lovely mossy, park-like grounds. The hot tub was wonderful, especially in the rain. We enjoyed watching the squirrels, wood ducks & a pair of Canadian geese & their fluffy ducklings on the river bank. The cabin was as described. It was comfortable & well appointed, and worked out well for a group that included a person with limited mobility. The owner was helpful & friendly. Next time we would plan to stay a little longer. Thanks for sharing your lovely cabin!

This was the Perfect Getaway! Close enough to all conveniences but far enough to feel isolated and private. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous, the cabin ideal. Everything that was needed and more was provided for by the host. The hot tub was the "cherry" on top. We felt privileged to stay and would love to return for a longer visit. Would definitely recommend highly!

Came from the midwest and loved it!

  • 5 of 5
The place was even better than the pictures! We took my 92 year old mother-in-law to visit her best friend and we ended up only being 2 miles away from her. The place was easy to get around for her and we enjoyed our stay. It rained all but 1 day, but looking out at the river with a warm fire blazing was perfect. The house had all the amenities and more. Was very clean & well maintained, enjoyed the hot tub. Was a week before Thanksgiving and even baked a turkey, kitchen had everything! Would recommend to anyone and would like to go back in the summer. Had a pizza delivered from Mougal Mountain pizza and was great, they came in the rain and found the place. Couldn't get enough of the river.
