COUNTRY GARDEN COTTAGE CLOSE TO THE SONOMA PLAZA

Sonoma Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Welcome to Patti's Country Garden Cottage, just minutes from the Historic Sonoma Valley Plaza, the perfect blend of comfort and privacy in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful gardens invite quiet walks, comfortable colorful chairs and benches for viewing breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, and a delightful 'Cape Cod' style gazebo for the perfect lunch await your visit.

The 'back pasture' is the home to a large Victory Garden while the large deck showcases the kitchen garden, full of tasty herbs and salad makings. In the fall, the apple and fig trees offer nutritious fruit; and the walnut trees are more than generous! Guests are invited to enjoy this bounty, all organically grown.

The quiet cozy (though spacious...925 sq ft) two bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cottage is fully furnished and easily accommodates four. The couch converts to a comfortable twin size bed which makes for a friendly five guests! On those cool evenings, the gas-fired Franklin stove adds a magical charm. Enjoy a glass of wine on your private deck, sip early morning coffee in the garden gazebo while gazing at the sun rising over the Sonoma hills, or sleep late and amble down to the Plaza for a latte and a chocolate croissant.

If you enjoy wine tasting close 'to home,' then be ready to visit at least 10 notable wineries less than 10 minutes from your deck. If Redwoods are on your list, the Muir Woods State Park is a demonstration forest of these gentle giants, just 40 minutes from Sonoma!

For a small town, Sonoma celebrates year round with festivals, music, in-season farmers' markets, fun-filled fundraisers for local charities, vineyard tours, and wonderful wine tastings. A special 'Taste of Sonoma' basket is the perfect beginning for your visit, filled with cheese, bread, fruit, and of course, a bottle of wine.

Whether you ride a bike, take a walk, enjoy an extraordinary dinner out, drive to the coast, enjoy San Francisco, or stay in your cottage, your visit will be restful and memorable. You will want to return, and you will always be welcomed!

1987 was a life-changing year! On the way back from a cross-country trip, I drove to Sonoma, around the Historic Plaza twice, and decided to make this quaint town my new home. Three months later, I was the proud owner of 1 1/2 acres, just 20 walking minutes from that wonderful plaza. The past 25 years have been joyfully spent in reclaiming the land. My home is comfortable and inviting, the big red barn and old sheep shed have been restored, and the old shack and chicken coop replaced by a cozy cottage, visited by many over the years. Equally charming are the organic herb, vegetable, and flower gardens, watched over by the majestic native grown Redwoods, planted in 1988! Turning the back 1/4 acre into a magical walking path garden was a 20-year dream, finally completed in 2006. A unique gazebo, comfortable chairs and benches, and a welcoming Adirondack swing invite thoughtful moments amongst a variety of trees, flowers, native bushes, birds, rabbits, and an occasional fox. Every season brings new growth and surprises! The Sonoma Valley reminds me of two favorite places. It's surrounded by trees similar to the Flathead Valley in Northwest Montana and has the home-town feel of friendly people, festivals, and traditions of new England. Do come and visit my home; you will want to stay a while!

Patti Peters purchased this cottage in 1987

The 1987 cross-country trip in my 1979 VW camper (which is still on the property!) offered time for reflection in addition to the opportunity of meeting the most wonderful, down-to-earth people who shared a short time of their lives with me. From the mountains, across the great plains, to the East Coast and back, I found myself thinking of small towns. When I drove into Sonoma, something immediately felt 'right.' It was a life-changing moment. The people are kind, generous with their time to the many worth-while nonprofits here, and enjoy sharing the valley with visitors from around the world. Over the years, Sonoma has grown on me, and it is always a delight to share this magical place with visitors. Do come and experience this for yourself!

Two quiet bedrooms with comfortable mattresses. Full bath and a half plus an endless supply of fluffy towels. A basket of slippers for those chilly evenings. Dining area complete with a lovely round table and four comfortable chairs. Living room with a comfortable twin size coach/hide-a-bed sleeper and a “country barn” view. Full kitchen – right down to pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. A private deck for watching the setting sun over the Sonoma Valley hills. The kitchen garden on the larger deck provides fragrant and tasty herbs while the Victory Garden offers delicious vegetables, organic of course. Fig and apple tress offer nutritious snacks and the walnut trees are equally generous. The added bonus are the sunsets over the Sonoma Hills; and when the moon is full, the valley is breathtaking.

WONDERFUL!

  • 4 of 5
This cottage was wonderful to stay in. Very spacious, clean, modern, and convenient to everything in Sonoma. Patti is a great host. She's very kind and giving of her space, but isn't noisy or over-bearing. She was so sweet to leave bread/cheese/apples/wine upon our arrival. We only stayed a short time, but cant wait to go back and spend more time in the cottage and garden!

SUCH A LOVELY PLACE!!

  • 5 of 5
Patti, thank you for making everything perfect. The cottage was exactly as described. We loved the wine, bread, and cheese. Kids enjoyed the organic gardens. And the whole family had a memorable weekend in Sonoma! I have already recommended the cottage to a couple of friends, and we look forward to returning for another lovely getaway.

Owner's Response: This was a delightful family, and they had such a wonderful time exploring and enjoying Sonoma. Their days were full of activities, and I enjoyed their enthusiasm for Sonoma. Their children had fun in the garden, learned all about figs, and had many questions about organic farming. I certainly enjoyed them and look forward to them coming again!

A PERFECT PARADISE!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful secluded piece of Sonoma paradise this cottage is! Our host, Patti, was so welcoming! The cottage is delightful. The bedrooms are roomy and so comfortable. But the best part is the gardens. Patti showed us where to pick fresh figs, vegetables and herbs. There are numerous hidden quiet areas to sit and read, sip some wine, and listen to the breeze rustling through the trees...run your hands through the lavender, I could go on and on. We cannot wait to go back!

Owner's Response: This delightful family brought joy to the property in so many ways. Positive, full of laughter and enthusiasm, they enjoyed everything they did. Visiting the Sonoma Plaza was a treat for them, and finding quiet spots in the gardens here for their conversations was relaxing and private. A particularly memorable moment was when they agreed they had developed an "allergic reaction" to leaving Sonoma. It is my sincere hope they will visit again; they will always be welcomed!

LOVELY GET AWAY IN SONOMA

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cottage and our over rating is a 4.5. We only deducted. 5 because of the the traffic noise at night, which could easily be eliminated if we closed the window and turned on the air conditioning (we liked the breeze). It was better than the pictures and was very clean with all the amenities we needed. The neighborhood and yard is beautiful and enjoyed the safe and walk to the square. We were two couples with lots of room. I will definitely be recommending to others. Thank you Patti we appreciated your hospitality and loved your perfect getaway!

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have this group visit! They enjoyed the "kitchen" garden and visiting on the deck and in the gazebo. They found Sonoma charming and friendly and enjoyed the local restaurants and wineries. They were also impressed with the local markets as they prepared several meals in the cottage. It would be delightful to have them visit again!

QUAINT, COZY AND A PERFECT SONOMA STAY

  • 5 of 5
We couldn't be happier with our stay at Patti's County Garden Cottage. Patti was a delight to work with - very responsive, answered any questions, and provided recommendations for our stay in both Sonoma and San Francisco. She graciously welcomed us to her home and beautiful gardens and made the stay that much more enjoyable. As mentioned in other reviews, Patti welcomed us with some local treats - fresh bread, fruit, cheese, local wine, coffee and creamer. Such a sweet gesture! The cottage was beautiful, well-maintained and accurately reflected by the pictures and descriptions on VRBO (if anything, the cottage was even more spacious than it appeared in pictures and the gardens more expansive). Four adults stayed very comfortably in the cottage, each couple had their own space and then the general areas (kitchen, living room, dining room, front porch) to spend time together. The gardens were absolutely gorgeous, Patti definitely has a green thumb. We spent our mornings (often early since we were on a different time zone!) out on the patio, the swing and in the gazebo enjoying a cup of coffee and the cool California weather. Often we were rewarded with the presence of bluejays, hummingbirds, feisty squirrels and a friendly fox who made an appearance (but kept his distance) on a few occasions.

The cottage is located about a mile away from Sonoma Square. Because it is located off of one of the main roads, it is probably best to drive the distance rather than walk to the square; however, in the early morning hours before traffic started up, my husband would go for a run down to the square, around the hills and back again and declared it a great running route. The actual location is quite central and close to many of the wineries and tourist spots. While in town we took a great winery tour with Valley Wine Tours (also highly recommended) which picked up us and dropped us off right at the cottage. We also had some great meals in town, including a fantastic meal at the Girl and the Fig (make reservations!).

If there were any regrets about this vacation rental, it was only that we didn't get to spend enough time there! Each of us agreed that we would definitely book Patti's cottage again and are already looking at planning another trip.

Owner's Response: This group of friends from two different States arrived together and were happy and friendly from the first moment on the property. Full of energy, smiles, and excited about the plans they had made, they made every moment count. It was delightful to watch them enjoy the gardens, the gazebo, and exploring wonderful places in Sonoma. Each day, they returned with delightful stories and ready for the next adventure. It would be an absolute pleasure to have them visit again!

PERFECT SONOMA COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
We had such a lovely stay at Patti's cottage- the cottage was the perfect size for our family of four. We were in Sonoma with our five and three year olds for my sister's wedding and the girls absolutely loved the cottage - the gardens go on forever and there was even a sandbox for them to play in- which they loved! Patti was so kind and a wonderful hostess. I would recommend this cottage for a small family, a couple or a girls weekend. It is in a great location- just a five minute drive from the square.

Owner's Response: It is always a pleasure to have a family here to attend such a special event as a wedding. Everyone was so excited and happy, and the children were full of energy and delightful. They played in the sandbox and enjoyed the gardens as well. The guests thoroughly enjoyed Sonoma and found the town to be friendly and inviting. It would be a real pleasure to have this family come again!
