Sonoma Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Welcome to Patti's Country Garden Cottage, just minutes from the Historic Sonoma Valley Plaza, the perfect blend of comfort and privacy in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful gardens invite quiet walks, comfortable colorful chairs and benches for viewing breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, and a delightful 'Cape Cod' style gazebo for the perfect lunch await your visit.

The 'back pasture' is the home to a large Victory Garden while the large deck showcases the kitchen garden, full of tasty herbs and salad makings. In the fall, the apple and fig trees offer nutritious fruit; and the walnut trees are more than generous! Guests are invited to enjoy this bounty, all organically grown.

The quiet cozy (though spacious...925 sq ft) two bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cottage is fully furnished and easily accommodates four. The couch converts to a comfortable twin size bed which makes for a friendly five guests! On those cool evenings, the gas-fired Franklin stove adds a magical charm. Enjoy a glass of wine on your private deck, sip early morning coffee in the garden gazebo while gazing at the sun rising over the Sonoma hills, or sleep late and amble down to the Plaza for a latte and a chocolate croissant.

If you enjoy wine tasting close 'to home,' then be ready to visit at least 10 notable wineries less than 10 minutes from your deck. If Redwoods are on your list, the Muir Woods State Park is a demonstration forest of these gentle giants, just 40 minutes from Sonoma!

For a small town, Sonoma celebrates year round with festivals, music, in-season farmers' markets, fun-filled fundraisers for local charities, vineyard tours, and wonderful wine tastings. A special 'Taste of Sonoma' basket is the perfect beginning for your visit, filled with cheese, bread, fruit, and of course, a bottle of wine.

Whether you ride a bike, take a walk, enjoy an extraordinary dinner out, drive to the coast, enjoy San Francisco, or stay in your cottage, your visit will be restful and memorable. You will want to return, and you will always be welcomed!

About Patti Peters

1987 was a life-changing year! On the way back from a cross-country trip, I drove to Sonoma, around the Historic Plaza twice, and decided to make this quaint town my new home. Three months later, I was the proud owner of 1 1/2 acres, just 20 walking minutes from that wonderful plaza. The past 25 years have been joyfully spent in reclaiming the land. My home is comfortable and inviting, the big red barn and old sheep shed have been restored, and the old shack and chicken coop replaced by a cozy cottage, visited by many over the years. Equally charming are the organic herb, vegetable, and flower gardens, watched over by the majestic native grown Redwoods, planted in 1988! Turning the back 1/4 acre into a magical walking path garden was a 20-year dream, finally completed in 2006. A unique gazebo, comfortable chairs and benches, and a welcoming Adirondack swing invite thoughtful moments amongst a variety of trees, flowers, native bushes, birds, rabbits, and an occasional fox. Every season brings new growth and surprises! The Sonoma Valley reminds me of two favorite places. It's surrounded by trees similar to the Flathead Valley in Northwest Montana and has the home-town feel of friendly people, festivals, and traditions of new England. Do come and visit my home; you will want to stay a while!

Patti Peters purchased this cottage in 1987

Why Patti Peters chose Sonoma

The 1987 cross-country trip in my 1979 VW camper (which is still on the property!) offered time for reflection in addition to the opportunity of meeting the most wonderful, down-to-earth people who shared a short time of their lives with me. From the mountains, across the great plains, to the East Coast and back, I found myself thinking of small towns. When I drove into Sonoma, something immediately felt 'right.' It was a life-changing moment. The people are kind, generous with their time to the many worth-while nonprofits here, and enjoy sharing the valley with visitors from around the world. Over the years, Sonoma has grown on me, and it is always a delight to share this magical place with visitors. Do come and experience this for yourself!

What makes this cottage unique

Two quiet bedrooms with comfortable mattresses. Full bath and a half plus an endless supply of fluffy towels. A basket of slippers for those chilly evenings. Dining area complete with a lovely round table and four comfortable chairs. Living room with a comfortable twin size coach/hide-a-bed sleeper and a “country barn” view. Full kitchen – right down to pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. A private deck for watching the setting sun over the Sonoma Valley hills. The kitchen garden on the larger deck provides fragrant and tasty herbs while the Victory Garden offers delicious vegetables, organic of course. Fig and apple tress offer nutritious snacks and the walnut trees are equally generous. The added bonus are the sunsets over the Sonoma Hills; and when the moon is full, the valley is breathtaking.

Owner's Response: This group of long-time friends came to celebrate their birthdays and sharing of their stories over the years. Delightful and full of energy, the ladies explored the Sonoma Plaza, enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Girl and the Fig, and visited several local wineries. The gazebo provided a comfortable spot for them to catch up on so many events over the years, and I often heard them laughing. It would be delightful to have them visit again!

Loved our stay!

  • 5 of 5
We were so excited about our visit to Patti's cottage, given the photos and kind emails from Patti. Our expectations were exceeded! The cottage and grounds were absolutely adorable. The space was great for our family of four. We enjoyed the outdoor space paired with some appetizers and a bottle of wine... Twice. The location was convenient to the Plaza. Wine Valley Tours was familiar with the home and picked us up right out front for an awesome day of tastings. Would LOVE to return some day soon!

Owner's Response: This group of life-long friends, traveling from three different States, were just delightful. They shared many stories in the gazebo along with good wine and plenty of laughter. They spent a day on the Plaza, enjoyed lunch at the Swiss Hotel, visited several local wineries, and took a trip to Bodega Bay as well as to San Francisco. They also were excellent cooks and prepared many meals during their week's visit. Each and all are always welcomed here - it would be wonderful to see them again!

Secret Garden and wonderfully hosted!

  • 5 of 5
We rented the Country Garden Cottage for the lovely outdoor space and it didn't disappoint! It was very close to the Plaza and made grocery runs very quick. The outdoor space was even better than in the pictures. It was was peaceful and serene. Our family just adored our stay.

Ms. Patti was a lovely host and was always available if we had questions. She was prompt with responses before we arrived and every thing we asked for was provided at the time of arrival.

I would highly recommend this property for family or couples looking for a wine getaway!

Owner's Response: This family was an absolute delight to have on the property. Other family members came to visit with them, and I so enjoyed every one of them. The added delight was their celebration of daughter's first birthday. She charmed me right from the start, and it is my hope they will visit again. They also enjoyed the Sonoma Plaza and all it has to offer. This family will always be here!

Wonderful!!!

Five stars all the way! This cottage was beautifully equipped, clean and lovely, and Patti could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Her extensive and gorgeous gardens gave us a place to have cocktails, or dinner, or just a quiet moment. We will definitely book another trip, and savor the memories of this lovely place until we get back. Thank you, Patti. You were fabulous!

Owner's Response: This group of best friends were a joy to have here! They spent many hours on the deck, in the gazebo, and cooking together. Happily, not only were all the herbs ready for picking, but also the tomatoes and figs. Laughter was frequent, and the ladies were so happy to be spending time with each other and exploring both Sonoma and Napa. They also visited Bodega Bay and saw a show in San Francisco. It was a sheer delight to see these long-time friends reminiscing about the past and looking forward to more time with each other in the years to come. It is my hope they will visit again - they are always welcomed here! Patti

Wonderful!

This cottage was wonderful to stay in. Very spacious, clean, modern, and convenient to everything in Sonoma. Patti is a great host. She's very kind and giving of her space, but isn't noisy or over-bearing. She was so sweet to leave bread/cheese/apples/wine upon our arrival. We only stayed a short time, but cant wait to go back and spend more time in the cottage and garden!

Patti, thank you for making everything perfect. The cottage was exactly as described. We loved the wine, bread, and cheese. Kids enjoyed the organic gardens. And the whole family had a memorable weekend in Sonoma! I have already recommended the cottage to a couple of friends, and we look forward to returning for another lovely getaway.

Owner's Response: This was a delightful family, and they had such a wonderful time exploring and enjoying Sonoma. Their days were full of activities, and I enjoyed their enthusiasm for Sonoma. Their children had fun in the garden, learned all about figs, and had many questions about organic farming. I certainly enjoyed them and look forward to them coming again!
