Our cabins are the perfect place for wildlife watching in the Crandall Valley, sightseeing in Yellowstone National Park, and trips to Cody, Wyoming and Red Lodge, Montana on some of America’s most spectacular roads. We have vast herds of elk and bison, big horn sheep, coyotes, deer, mountain goats, grizzly bears, black bears and many birds including ravens and bald eagles. Since the reintroduction of the wolf in 1995, this valley has also provided almost daily sightings of wolves.

For an adventure outside of Yellowstone National Park, a one-hour drive will take you to Red Lodge, Montana over the Beartooth Highway, one of America’s most beautiful roadways. Red Lodge is an old gold mining town, which has grown into a picturesque ski resort with numerous shops and restaurants. Heading to the east on the Chief Joseph Highway 296 and over historic Dead Indian Pass provides a wide vista of the Rocky Mountains. Chief Joseph Highway will take you to Cody, Wyoming, where there is a nightly gunfight and rodeo during the summer season.

These cabins are located on secluded, wooded land, bordering National Forest on two sides. You can end your day with smores while sitting around the fire pit in front of the cabin. For a short outing, you can follow the private trail down river and enjoy the wildlife.

About Mallie

Richard (Zig) & Mallie Zickefoose

Hi, we are a hard working outdoor loving couple and we are living the life we enjoy. Come spend some time with us and experience our no hassle lifestyle.

Mallie purchased this cabin in 2007
Why Mallie chose Cooke City

We found this area 15 years ago on our first date and decided there was no other place in the world more beautiful than here; we made this area our home. There are so many things to do in our area that we have found out that it has kept us young!!! This is truly the best place to get away from it all!

What makes this cabin unique

We enjoy it here because of the great fishing and outdoor recreation. Yellowstone is close by so we can go there any time we like. We also love to take our four wheelers into the backcountry in the summer and in the winter there is fantastic snowmobiling from our doorstep. If you like to hike there is no better place, if you like to view wildlife it gets no better than here. Our families come and stay and it is a great vacation spot that young children will remember for a long time! We also have the beautiful Bear Tooth Mountains out our back door. Most of our guest tell us they enjoyed their time spend at the cabin more than they did visiting Yellowstone. Once you get here you hate to leave it is so relaxing and beautiful.

The cabin was perfect for us! Everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We spent 4 days in the park and 2 days at the cabin. Caught fresh trout for dinner right outside the cabin, which was great! The Beartooth Mountains are so beautiful! And the cabin was stocked with everything we needed, cooking pots/pans and utensils, towels/bedding, a tv w/ dvd (we watched Bogey movies every night), a cooler to take in the park for lunches, and so much more! Like I said, everything we needed. And Zig & Mallie were so helpful and we enjoyed our chats with Zig! Thanks for everything, I will try to send you some pics I took.

We LOVE Fishing Cabin!

We stayed at Fishing Cabin for our first trip to Yellowstone and had the best time ever! Mallie and Zig are wonderful and very helpful. We saw a record 7 bears in 1 DAY in the park. In fact, we never went into the park and DIDN'T see a bear. The cabin is just perfect for families, and the location near the NE entrance to the park was great for all the wildlife we saw...wolves, moose, foxes, bison and of course, bears. We were planning our return trip before we even left...Thanks Mallie for the idea of coming in September! Thanks so much to both Mallie and Zig for your hospitality!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review and hope to see you again and again. You guys were the greatest and you hold the record of most bears seen in one day!
Thanks again! Zig

Awesome vacation

My husband and I have always wanted to go to this area of the country. What a beautiful area and the cabin was awesome!. It is convienant to Yellowstone, Red Lodge and Cody. Zig and Mallie were wonderful as well. Enjoyed our time around the campfire sharing some bourbon and wine. It was too cold for fishing but the hiking was great. Wildlife in the area is abundant, we even had a moose pay us a visit at the cabin. Even though it was unseasonably cold were able to get a few days of motorcycle riding in, even up the Beartooth and Yellowstone. We definately plan to return to this beautiful place and next time bring the rest of the family along.

Perfect retreat

Submitted: December 3, 2011 Stayed: October 2011
We stayed a week in this cozy, very functional cabin first week of October. I was a bit worry about the weather but it turn out be a beautiful week. Temperature was around 70's during day time and 50's in night. The cabin was well heated in night. Enjoyed hiking near by canyon, fishing right outside the cabin and just breathing Wyoming nature. The best part was barbecue on the wood fire iron cast grill that owner Gig & Mallie made, followed by having a glass of wine watching fire over looking wolf hurrying blue moon.
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers
Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review! And you are right, after a long day there is nothing better than sitting by the fire looking at the moon and stars while telling stories and learning about each other. Hope you come back and bring some of your friends and family from Japan.
