Cute house with one very bad bed! Much dirt, some hazards. My cat loved it though.
Though the ad for this house notes parking is available, with the implication that a car is an option, note Long Island doesn't easily let cars on island. The owner doesn't reveal this until she gets paid. Not a problem for us but a heads up in the ad would be nice!
House is on a large lot, a lot of it not accessible & quite a jungle. Part that is available is pretty nice, though like the rest of this house w/ good bones could use some TLC and upkeep. Tools were strewn everywhere & left out to rust, which always burns me a bit, but seemed symptomatic of the owner's attitude about the house we thought.
House is not really a 3 to 4 bedroom. There's a small room with twin beds w/ connecting room with a futon. Worst is the 1st floor bedroom: could be very nice but bedsprings protruded through one side of the mattress of the 3/4 size bed (too short for me & I'm 5'9"). Every time we moved the bed squawked & stuck us. My partner ended up in a twin bed on the second floor, both of which were quite good. 2nd fl bed is in fact full and adequate. The first floor bathroom is tiny. The seal on the toilet leaked we discovered after the floor got inexplicably wet all week. Water pressure is feeble on first and almost nonexistent on second, where the bath is spacious but the tub/shower dirty & slow to drain.
In general the house was neither clean nor well maintained: dryer vent & vent hose in basement were badly clogged, not cleaned for a long time if ever, & vent hose pulled out of the wall spewing dirt everywhere. The outside lint filter was/is clogged as well. Wet linens mildewed in dryer when we arrived. Clogged lint filter a huge fire hazard so should be rectified & maintained henceforth. Bannister to second floor was loose, shaky. Many lights were out both inside & out, & we had to search to find light bulbs tucked away behind box on basement stairs, a basic thing owners should do. Oddly, many clocks & clock radios were plugged into switch outlets, so they were not working, then working, until again we to this figured out.
The kitchen is hardly gourmet, more fancy Pullman. BTW faucet handle complained about by others still comes off. Much crud in all but the most obvious places. For a owner concerned about water usage, there's no DW. Oddly stocked. Good knives. No cooking bowls. Good stove. No exhaust or light.
Entire house needs serious cleaning.
Owner responded but didn't remedy complaint.
Long Island is awesome & very friendl
