Overview

Cabrera Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

OCEANFRONT TROPICAL EDEN!! PARADISE FOUND! STUNNING, BREATHTAKING VIEWS!!

NEW IN 2014.....STAIRS TO PRIVATE BEACH BELOW!!!!!!

(WE ARE NOW 100% SOLAR POWERED)!!

ALSO: NEW for WINTER 2014!! WONDERFUL PRIVATE CHEF INCLUDED!!!

Gorgeous, brand new (2010) masterfully crafted thatched roof compound on the Dominican Republic's rugged North Shore! 2 1/3 lush, rolling tropical acres on a 50' cliff overlooking the mighty Atlantic surf! Panoramic views! Balinese inspired layout with separate pavilions to live and sleep, each open to the ocean with dramatic views. Very private grounds with dozens of mature royal palms, coconut palms, avocado trees, mango trees, almond trees, and acres of rolling green grass dotted with bougainvillea and the like. A jungle paradise!

One enters the central pavilion through a centuries old antique Indian carved door, dramatically introducing the view of the infinity edged pool and a full panorama of the Atlantic beyond. The 'great room' has a well equipped kitchen, a hand carved oak dining table seating 16, and an incredibly comfortable lounge area with room enough for everyone! The entire wall of doors, 9 feet tall and custom made by master craftsmen from Santo Domingo, opens completely up to the yard, pool and ocean. Laze about on the terrace, pick a hammock, or sun yourself bronze...this house is heaven for relaxation!

A master suite to die for. Perched high among the palms, this double pavilion suite is exotic, wonderful, and completely open to the ocean! Even the bath! With breathtaking ocean views, shower al fresco in the morning, with nothing but you, the colorful fauna and the big blue sea! Be lulled to sleep at night by the sound of the surf and the cool, constant breeze.

The guest pavilion is comprised of two generous bedrooms, one a king and the other having two full (double) beds. Each has their own terrace and bath, and both have stunning views of the ocean and Cabo Frances beyond! Total privacy between all three pavilions make this an ideal set up for 2 families with kids, 3 couples, or just one large, extended family.

Minutes away from the famous (National Geographic) Playa Grande beach, a 3 mile stretch of sand, surf and seafood (caught hourly, grilled fresh, and brought to your beachside table...all for a few bucks)! Also, a minute further down the road, is the world's best kept golf secret. Playa Grande Campo de Golf is known to those in the know as the 'Pebble Beach' of the Caribbean. With 14 of 18 holes set upon dramatic 80' cliffs right on the ocean and surrounded by the lush green mountainside, it is a setting to behold and a challenge you won't soon forget.

This is a home designed for ease and comfort, with the amenities, but without the pretense. Its décor is simple, yet crisp, clean and organic. Help yourselves to the vegetable garden, read a book or two, and relax! Buy your fresh eggs everyday from Jonny’s chickens up the road. If the warmth and beauty of the Caribbean and its people are for you, but the pretense and expense are not....come to Cabrera!

(Please also see our Nantucket Summer rentals #'s 190830 and 218173).

What makes this villa unique

NEW FOR WINTER 2014!! PRIVATE CHEF INCLUDED!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Jenn n' Skip,

There is only one word that can adequately describe my stay at the Cabrera Tiki -- sublime! Something as simple as entering the front door is nothing less than a change of universe. It's not just the etherial dramatic, drop-dead clifftop oceanfront vistas, nor the endless 24/7 wave concert that overpowered me, but the way this home annuls the line between indoors and outdoors, and the implausible combination of tropical rusticity with innovative architectural elegance; and all fused together with the most unique and eclectic collection of artworks and artisanal objects and inventions imaginable. The master suite is so romantic, even if you're alone, you'll probably fall in love with yourself again -:).

On the practical level, the staff of five was not only extremely helpful and accommodating, but also with such a light footprint that they were invisible except when we needed them. It was as though their pride came from pleasing us -- and what more could we ask, aside from half an hour of powerful sun with gentle rain at the same time by day, and calm breezy evenings identifying constellations with an nonstop lightning show on the ocean horizon.

There were plenty of special activities in the neighborhood.... many magical places to swim, the Caribbean's most amazing golf course, walks to and through rural mountain villages with everyone smiling and waving as you walk by .... but really, after a few days of enjoying the surroundings, we didn't even want to leave "home".

If you want a normal vacation house, this is probably not your spot. But if you prefer the experience of a place that meshes the ephemeral with the eternal, well, we've never been anywhere as magical as the Cabrera Tiki.

A Week in Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We had a FABULOUS week at Tiki and loved every second of it. The week was everything we hoped it would be -- and more. What a beautiful, unique, amazing home the owners have built. I have never seen anything like it. We felt like we were staying in a 5-star resort, only we were the only guests!

We loved relaxing in the back, around the pool, each and every day. The weather was perfect. We saw so many whales. Our 9 year old son spent hours stalking and catching lizards in the gardens. We had massages arranged by Delila on two separate days -- heavenly. The men went spear fishing right off the beach in front of the house with a guide who Gabriel hooked them up with. They thought it was the best thing ever. They caught tons of fish, plus an octopus and a crab, which Dominga cooked for us in various delightful ways. Speaking of Dominga, she was wonderful. So kind to the children! And we had a lot of fun with her, too. Her cooking was DELICIOUS and she surprised us with new dishes at every meal (which was different from our experience in the Dominican last year, when the cook basically made the same rice, beans, plantains, and chicken or shrimp or fish at every meal!). She was so flexible and so ready to do whatever we wanted. We tried hard to get her to take a day off, but instead it seemed like she started cooking for us 3 meals a day instead of 2 toward the end of the week. (Don't worry, we were happy to give her a cash gift at the end of the week.) Also our daughter turned 6 while we were there, and Dominga got the most beautiful pink iced cake for her. Margaret was thrilled!

The other staff was so nice as well and we have nothing but rave reviews for everyone. Mildred was so sweet. As was Gabriel.

We really didn't venture out from Casa Cabot very often, basically because we were so happy and content to sit by the pool or in the hammock and read or play cards or games. We did go to Playa Grande one day, and we went to check out DuDu blue lagoon one afternoon and found another private beach near there where we stopped on the way back. All excursions were good.

We have rented luxury homes all over the world -- Tuscany, Provence, New Zealand -- and this vacation home was right up there as one of the most beautiful, relaxing places we have ever been. We will be back!

Paradise!!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I recently spent 4 days at Cabot Tiki and we loved every second of it!! Everything was perfect. The villa, grounds, pool and view are all beautiful. Dominga, the chef, was excellent! We really enjoyed her cooking and company. Jenn was very helpful and so easy to get a hold of. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

Can't recommend this property enough!!! We will be back.

Thank you

Ten Star Spectacular!

  • 5 of 5

I had the great pleasure to spend a month at Cabot Tiki, and will be returning again soon. The night of my arrival I slept 10 straight hours, lulled to sleep with gentle breezes and the sound of the ocean. The design is pure genius: immersion in the natural environment, with open rooms and gorgeous vistas, without compromising on luxury and comfort. The staff is better than any five star hotel, because they truly care about making you happy. I completely gave up on going out to dinner, because Dominica is a great cook and a total hoot. The night watchman even washed my dusty car. On the days when the ocean was calm, swimming in a private cove without another human being in sight - that was an experience. And there are many other beaches to explore. Jenn stayed in touch and was 100% responsive, which I so appreciated. Visit the Dominican, stay at Tiki, you'll be so glad you did!

Owner's Response: Dear T. Many thanks for your compliments; I shall pass your kind words on to our staff. I agree; they are the perfect blend of caring, attentive and discreet....we are so lucky to have them as part of our lives down in Cabrera. So glad, too, that you enjoyed the new stairs to our private beach...as well as the dreamlike nights with the stars, the moon and the sea! We very much look forward to your next stay! Please come again soon! Best, J & S

Spectacular surprise in the Dominican Republic

  • 5 of 5

We are frequent travelers abroad and this fabulous place was one of our best experiences ever. The beautiful home was clean, well kept by the daily maid, had beautiful ocean views ( we even saw whales ) , impeccable grounds and a great location. One of the best things about the stay was sleeping with the ocean breezes and to the sounds of the waves. The home was mostly open air which was wonderful. It was near one of the most beautiful golf courses you will ever experience. A delightful surprise was the culinary abilities of the cook, Dominga. She was a pleasure to be with and her local cooking was an experience. A stay here will be most memorable.

where we are in cabrera is really quite removed from a busy tourist scene. it is a sleepy town (just a minute down the road) with a few local restaurants, some pretty good, and one quite good at the hotel 'la catalina'.

for activity, playa grande golf is golf's best kept secret. you can go to www.playagrande.com and see some photos. i think it is as stunning as pebble beach, only 1/10th the price! and there is rarely anyone on the course. (it has recently been bought by aman resorts, with plans underway to give the course a facelift and open a high-end resort in the near future. please inquire as to playability).

other than golf, the main beach, also called playa grande, is just a few minutes down the road. it is gorgeous (as agrees national geographic) with great surf and wonderful food, prepared causally in beach shacks and brought to wherever you happen to sit yourselves in the sand. you may also rent surf boards, boogie boards, chaise lounges, etc. at the beach. the surf can be quite good!

there are also some good hikes, waterfalls, and horseback riding. but other than that, it is pretty well off the beaten path. it requires a heart for exploration and discovery, as most travel in the developing world does.

if you were keen to just relax in utter beauty and tranquility, there is no better spot i know of.

our 'tiki' villa is a good place to kick back and read plenty of books, and play plenty of cards and dominoes. we have tons of fruit growing on our trees! coconut, mango, banana, and avocado in abundance. it is a tropical paradise!

the villa is very well staffed, with housekeeping, a gardener, security and concierge, and well secured in a lovely little cove (with only four neighboring homes). and it is set up exceptionally well for hosting families, with plenty of room/s to sleep, cook, eat and lounge. we now have a wonderful personal chef named dominga, you need only cover food costs! she will prepare simple but delicious fresh food, usually the daily catch brought into el puerto just down the road, or fresh chicken, often with rice and fresh vegetables. it is not haute cuisine, but rather simple lovingly prepared food with local dominican flare. it is a terrific way to relax and enjoy your time together, letting dominga take great care of you (she even stays to do the dishes)! it is a wonderful setting for memorable dinners with the moon and sea.

the d.r. is a wonderful country in beauty and in the friendliness of the people, especially the latter.

i would definitely emphasize that it is a bit off the beaten path. that should be something you find appealing, rather than a deterrent! it is a country that has captured our hearts.
