Wonderful Home, Wonderful Trip
We rented this home in July - 10 family members getting together for a small reunion. The home is located in Surry, ME, which is about a 10 minute drive from the small town of Ellsworth, ME, with it's charming downtown and excellent restaurants, and 30 minutes from the larger Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. This location is a good jumping off point for places within Down East Maine. You can take a day trip, about 3-3 1/2 hours, into New Brunswick, Canada.
The home itself is beautiful - hardwood floors, large kitchen, big bedrooms with top-line bathrooms. One should note that the home does not have many extras - there is only one, old TV, in the rec room. If that is important to you this may not be the house for you. There is free WiFi. The home has beautiful views of a inlet and a small, rocky beach. Nice back porch. Also, be aware, if you go in the summer and it was in the 90s several days while we were there, the home does not have air condition (centrally or individual units). The rooms do have ceiling fans and floor fans. For the most part we were comfortable but there were several days that it was very hot, with little or no breeze. Just be prepared- in the summer it is not always cool in Maine.
We enjoyed our experience there, the home is beautiful and the surrounding area is very nice. The small town of Ellsworth has grocery stores, banks, and several great restaurants so you don't always have to drive into Bar Harbor.
The environment was relaxing and beautiful and led to a memorable vacation. The pictures on this page are nice but the home is even more impressive in person. You will not be disappointed if you rent this home.
