Reaching that inner peace at the Lodge

What a fantastic rental. The drive thru the Tunnel of Trees reminded me a bit of Tenn.. There was the sweet scent of lilacs thru much of the drive just drawing one further in. After arriving at the Lodge and opening the door I felt the charm of "home". The view thru the front window to Lake Michigan drew me in immediately. Leaving everything in the van I found myself saying the heck with all that for now and found myself walking the beach instead. A sucker for a porch swing, I was delighted to see one on the deck. The outdoor shower was a pleasant surprise. The kitchen had anything you could possible need and a working coffee maker! Majority of the rentals I've stayed at needed to send theirs into retirement. Any more, I just bring my own. I HAVE to have my morning coffee! There's the deck in the woods I enjoyed when wanting to get into the middle of the trees and listen to the birds songs.
I visited the General Store, tried the pot pies, the fresh bread and a few other items. Good, good and all good. I wound up eating a slab of bread and butter, sweet gherkins and drinking Smithwicks for several meals. YUM! With the fresh air, watching the waves and all surrounding, and sitting on the deck swing, I was in nirvana.
There's Harbor Springs nearby, where I visited the Book store. They're stocked with some great reading material.....then of course Tom's Moms' cookies.
Nothing, but nothing, though, beat the incredible sunsets. Watching it set on the horizon of Lake Michigan, and at the same time the moon sitting high, it really brought to mind how delicate the balance really is. I came looking for a relaxing week. It went well beyond that, finding myself livinger in an inner peace for that time. There were the fox, deer and even a large turtle that visited the shoreline and roamed the woods, bringing a delight to a suburbian where cats and dogs are the norm.
There's plenty of action if looking for it, but for myself, the sound of the waves and all that surrounded me at the Lodge was what I needed.
I hope that I'll be blessed with future visits........
