ESCAPE TO LOVELY, LAKESIDE, WILLOUGHBY LAKE COTTAGE

Lake Willoughby Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

Willoughby Lake in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, welcomes swimmers and boaters to its clean, clear waters. Sheltered by Mount Pisgah on the east and Mount Hor on the west, Willoughby resembles a fjord, a mile wide and six and half miles long. Enjoy nearby hiking, mountain biking, and golfing at some of the most beautiful courses in the northeast.

The cottage offers lakeside privacy with a large yard bordered by privacy hedges. The 1.5 acre yard makes for great lawn gatherings and recreation. Two kayaks are available for use.

WELCOME TO SHAKEY JAKE’S COTTAGE 1074 Vt. Route 5A: The stove in the living room is propane only. Turn it on by using the thermostat on the wall.

Garbage: please use only the clear bags that are supplied. Garbage is picked up Tuesdays and Saturdays at the top of the driveway at approximately 7 a.m. Don’t put it out the night before because the crows will be breaking open the bags! They are such clever birds!!

Ducks: there are always ducks swimming by but please don’t feed them. They end up contaminating the water.

There is satellite TV available (television is out on the porch). Please do not order any movies as there is a fee involved.

There are 2 kayaks available. Anyone using them needs to be wearing a lifejacket. Please pull them back up on the lawn after use. You should bring your own lifejackets for boat use.

Our water supply comes directly from the lake so we would advise that you use bottled water for drinking.

Linens and towels are supplied.

There is some wood next to the outdoor fireplace. If you need more you may purchase it at the Campground store (approx. 2 miles north on route 5A).

There are two local papers published during the week: Newport Daily Express and the Caledonian Record. The Chronicle is a weekly and available on the stands on Wednesdays. All of these are available in Barton or Orleans.

If you have pets please do not leave them alone in the cottage.

Our neighbors have complained in the past about barking dogs!

There are two large supermarkets in Newport/Derby (north on route 5A: Price Chopper and Shaw’s. There is a local market in Orleans and one in Barton (both are 7 miles away).

Check in time: 2 P.M., check-out by 10 A.M.

Please leave the cottage and grounds as you found them.

HAVE FUN!

WE LOVED THIS LAKESIDE COTTAGE!

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our getaway very much. This cottage was very cozy, well cared for, right on the lake and very peaceful. We had a chilly weekend but the gas stove kept us very warm and the fire added to the ambiance. We hiked the mountains, had some beers at the Robin's Roost down the road, took the kayaks out for a wavy ride and relaxed. It was one of the best weekends away we have had in awhile. I highly reccomend this cottage to others, the owners were great and easy to deal with and the cottage was everything promised and more. Thanks for a good time Shakey Jake!

WONDERFULLY CHARMING AND PEACEFUL!

  • 5 of 5
Our stay was so enjoyable. The cottage was so charming. The views were stunning. Sunsets were so vivid and colorful, water was crystal clear. It was better than I had imagine it would be. A clean and well organized cottage with a TV if we wanted to watch the news. The rooms were larger than they appeared in the photos. For a few days our lives were very calm and simple again. Our dogs loved being able to go in the water on a whim. Everything was there for cooking, grilling, kayaking or just reading and relaxing on the shore. Near hiking trails for all abilities. It would be a great location for a family with children to visit also. Lots of games to play, music... you really don't need to bring a thing. Little bit on heaven on earth.

THE BEST 4TH OF JULY EVER

  • 5 of 5
Location, Location, Location!
I have spent 4th of July at this Camp for the last 15 years and it is one of my family’s favorite vacation spots.
One of the best properties on the lake, it really is a camp experience. We don’t spend much time inside the house. We’re in or near the water from the early morning, to watch the sunrise over the mountains, to late nights, observing the dazzling sunsets and fantastic star gazing. The front lawn that faces the lake with the private sandy beach is perfect for taking a dip or sunbathing. It’s perfect for our boat, we’re able to pull right up to the private docks and keep it in the water for the whole week. There is ample parking in the front of the house, when we have company; no one has to park on the road. The area is convenient to all the local activates, golf, hiking, dining, just to name a few, with a country store within walking distance from the house when you run out of milk and bread or just want to get a fresh grinder sandwich. We highly recommend that you booking your next vacation at the camp…
