Our home is spacious and luxurious and a relaxed place to hang out. Built in 2002, everything is almost new but feels like a classic Maine lake house with wood paneled walls and a stone chimney. Green Lake is 8 miles long with plenty of space for boating and the Northeast cove is quieter & less windy and a great secluded spot to explore the islands, swim and kayak, and watch the loons, herons, eagles and beavers. Pick blueberries off the bushes all along our shore. Eat lunch while soaking up the sun on the dock. You enjoy a 180 degree view of the water from the house; it sits on it's own private promontory with over 550' of lake frontage, private dock, swim dock, and boat mooring. A canoe and 4 kayaks are available for use. If you need a break from the lake their is plenty of mountain biking and hiking in the area.

The House: Open living area includes modern kitchen, dining table for 6, and living area with two couches, coffee tables and a TV. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped with lots of dishes and cookware, dishwasher, microwave, large frig/freezer and 2nd freezer in garage for extra food. Washer & Dryer and gas grill make the living easy and the wood fire place adds ambiance on those cool Maine nights. Two 2nd floor bedrooms are each spacious, with wood paneling and nice views. Basement rec room/bunk room provides expansion space for larger families and friends or a place to play on a rainy day. House is equipped for everyone in the family with cable TV, VCR & DVD player, ping pong table and additional couches in the basement play area. Towels and linens available on request.

Close to Acadia, Bar Harbor and Ellsworth: Our Green Lake house is only:

6 miles to major Route 1A with a farm stand and various restaurants.

17 miles to Ellsworth, the gateway to down east Maine with many restaurants, a cinema, LL Bean Outlet Store, Walmart, grocery stores and Home Depot.

30 miles to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor with great hiking, carriage paths for biking and carriage rides, shopping and restaurants.

35 miles to Bangor Airport

The Lucerne Inn is just a few miles down Route 1A and serves excellent food with a view over a lake that really makes you feel like you are in Switzerland. Annies farm stand and connected sandwich shop right near the end of Green Lake Road on Route 1A also provides excellent lunches and dinners at a more frugal price point.

excellent lake house

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay here in mid-September. The house itself was great - we had plenty of room for two couples, an infant, and two dogs. The layout was nice and open and the kitchen was fully stocked - we got plenty of use out of the crock pot while out on the lake fishing and the grill in the evenings as well. We enjoyed using the provided canoe and kayaks out on the water as well as the outdoor chairs for lounging on the dock and around the firepit. Fishing, particularly for smallmouth, was good - we caught a few above 3lbs and one over 5lbs all in Northeast Cove. All in all we had a great time and would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a house on a lake with all the extras of home.

Its great on Green Lake

This is our third year on Green Lake - we thought our previous trips were perfect --- what amazed us is that your home somehow exceeded perfect! How can that be?

Thank you so much for the opportunity to stay in your beautiful home. We loved it so that we only headed out to Bar Harbor and Acadia twice! And chose to eat every night but one at home so we wouldn't have to leave the calm and serenity of the Lake.

Thank you for all of your generous sharing of kayaks and canoe, clean new linens - an immaculate home.

Truly our greatest treasure of this week was laying on the dock at 10 PM watching the shooting stars.

Something for everyone

What a treat these last two weeks have been! The setting and house are beautiful - the lake reminds me of parts of Canada - beautiful, peaceful & quiet. We enjoyed so many days right here, kayaking, swimming, taking photos, fishing, and just being a family together. Other days we took day trips to Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, the Schoodic pPninsula (highly recommended). There are too many highlights to list here, so I asked each member of the family to tell their favorite experience.

Andrew- 9: loved the rocks and the waves at Schoodic Point and playing mini-golf at Pirates' Cove in Bar Harbor.
Ian - 13: loved seeing Thunder Hole, and eating at the all-you-can-eat BBQ at Atlantic Brewing Co.,
Abby-16: enjoyed all the opportunities to take photos right here & out and about, and having the opportunity to kayak with the whole family.
Robert-adult: appreciated the night skies reflecting in the lake, Cadillac Mountain on a clear day.
Loryn-adult: loved the serenity, the unending opportunities to enjoy the water, time to read, and almost daily sightings of the resident bald eagle.

The house was great - easy to relax in, not cluttered or shabby in any way. We appreciated the thick towels, good water, and the well-stocked kitchen. A note the the next visitors - you are in for a treat. Slow down and relax - you'll love it here.

Shang Gre La

Our family pulled in around 11:00 PM. The directions were perfect. We were beginning to wonder when the road would end when we found the long driveway to our "Shang Gre La"! When day light came we couldn't believe our eyes and great fortune. Our week long rental was absolutely gorgeous. Water on 3 sides - whoo hoo! We love the setting and the home. We were always torn whether to stay and play/relax or to go tour Acadia/Bar Harbor. We did both and had a fantastic time. Thanks again. Sharon, Pat, Janice, Caroline & Karen from Sebastian FL.

Super vacation spot

This house looked brand new. Lots of wood gave it a warm, comfortable feeling and it has many unexpected, welcome details. We were two adults and two teens so there was more room than we needed. The kids loved the raft and we all enjoyed the kayaks and paddled about the lake and around the islands. There is also a canoe. The fire pit was great at night and for some reason there were no bugs. The property is private and the lake had very little going on when we were there (we only saw two boats with motors). There are not many houses visible on the shoreline, giving it an away-from-it-all feel. There's a deck out the back and also a porch on the side.

There are plenty of games and books for a rainy day and the garage is a nice feature for unloading the car at night or in the rain.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
