House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

New, 1700 square foot home. This two level home has 70 feet of decks and eight ft. high windows in vaulted great room, overlooking a beautiful, quiet, sheltered bay across from Canada's newest (Gulf Islands) National Park. Handicap friendly and wheelchair accessible.

Pender Island is made up of North and South Pender Islands, joined by a bridge. The islands are located in the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada, below the 49th parallel close to the Canada/United States border.

The islands have many hiking trails and quiet roads perfect for cycling and the surrounding waters are protected and excellent for kayaking, fishing or diving. Also available are kayak rentals, an 18 hole golf course and a 27 hole Frisbee golf course.

The island boasts a new hall with an impressive list of events scheduled all year. There are many artist and artisan shops. Several other islands including Mayne, Saturna, Galiano and Saltspring can be accessed by car ferry from Pender.

About The Owner

I am a retired biologist and teacher. I have worked in western and northern Canada doing habitat protection and inventory and taught in Uganda East Africa as well as Alberta. Barbara my wife and co-owner is a retired counselling psychologist as well as a teacher. We have an interest in other cultures and have collected and decorated the cottage with west coast and east african artifacts

The Owner purchased this house in 2003
Why The Owner chose Pender Island

We live and raised a family of four in Victoria BC. We wanted a vacation Cottage close enough to visit on a daily as well as weekly basis. On Pender Island we were able to obtain an excellent undeveloped lot on which to build a place of our own design

What makes this house unique

The house has 8 ft. high windows overlooking a small bay with a national park reserve across the bay. We have water access and a small dock in the bay suitable for boats up to 18 ft. The Bay is a perfect spot to Kayak from and you can store your kayaks on the dock safely. the house is fully equipped with all kitchen appliances including dishwasher and microwave. A built in vacuum is available. We have decking on 3 sides of the house plus a lower deck at the ocean side protected from the rain and with a two person swing. As well as the water access on our property there is a small park with playground and beach within a five minute walk. The house is situated on a dead end road with only 6 other houses so their is no traffic noise

27 "hole" Frisbee Golf is free and great for teens. A five minute drive away. Hiking trails in the new Gulf Island National Park is only a five minute walk away. The Island is great for bikes with many paved roads and a 50km./ hr speed limit

Quiet comfort

My family and I have been enjoying time at the Shingle Bay house, on Pender island, for half a decade now and keep coming back. The house is situated in an extremely peaceful and quiet location on a delightfully wooded property, overlooking Shingle bay. Things we love: the wood burning stove, views of the bay, wildlife, nearby hiking trails, Frisbee golf, nearby beaches and just the peace and simplicity! Bring your bike, boat or kayak..... there are so many things to do, so many places to explore and vistas to be enjoyed! There cannot be many better views right outside of the front window. There is a nearby marina where last year we were lucky enough to see a pod of Orca Whales come by. The house is large, open concept and over two floors with two bathrooms. There is a large wrap around deck and steps down to a dock in the bay. Just grab some and drink from the local stores, kick back with a book and ENJOY! The ferry ride over is pretty nice too on a good day ;)

Great place to stay has all the amenities you could ask for . Great neighbors This home is perfect for families of all ages, or if retired you have lots of room for your whole family to come for a visit. Great walking trails, and you can go boating or if you like quiet time, or a place where you can stay and have your meetings, it is all there for you. The owners are very friendly people and great to deal with. We would recommend this home We really enjoyed it Thank you

Thanksgiving weekend

This property was beautiful. It had all the amenities needed to cook a big turkey and all the food for Thanksgiving. It is set in a quiet bay with a small park for the kids to play just a 5 minute walk away. It was immaculate and thanks to the owners we were able to find everything we needed. We went hiking with 2 trails within walking distance of the house. I would highly recommend this home to anyone.
