How often do these rental spots turn out to be even BETTER than the pictures? That's the case with this charming carriage house that is quite ample in size, scrupuously clean, and beautifully decorated. My husband and I drove south from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. It took six hours, but the ride was well worth it. We had big plans to visit area attractions, but we wound up doing that only one day out of seven. He just wanted to fish all day long, and I could not bring myself to leave the patio or gazebo - my reading stations. My husband caught fish from both docks. It's nice that the property is in a no-wake zone, because you don't get all the disturbances. Everything went just as advertised. We did not use the pool, since it was a bit too cool in May for my taste. Do be careful walking around the pool area. There are embedded latches in the cement that were used to hold a pool cover. They have risen up from the surface and you could trip over them. I understand that the pool is going to undergo some work, and this will be addressed then. The pool was always clean, and we certainly would have used it had the weather been warmer. The outdoor areas are just beautiful. In fact, you will think you are on public property instead of a private home. The property is that expansive. There are mini flower gardens and lots of potted plants. The view from the back of the main and carriage houses is gorgeous at sunset. You are surrounded by the peaceful sounds of birds - no street or loud neighbor noise. We did our grocery shopping at SuperWalmart in Marion. King Tut's is a handy convenience store just 5 minutes away. You can get gas there, too. So, I echo everything that has been said. It was pleasurable talking with Anne and we are thankful for our restful vacation. We will certainly try to make time to go back again.
I would recommend anyone that wants to stay on the Lake stay here. Ann is so very helpful, and is WILLING TO DO ANYTHING, to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The house itself is magnificent, and so are all the surroundings that go with it. The carriage house is very upscale and unique, making it one of a kind for the area. The furnishing inside the carriage house is beautiful, and you will not be disappointed with the cleanliness of the home either. The house if located on a quiet, no wake zone, and most of the time it felt like the lake was all ours! Thanks again Ann for all you did!
Our family of 7, spanning 3 generations from ages 68 years old down to 8 years old) stayed at this wonderful property for a week during the second part of our two week annual road trip.
It was so wonderful.
First of all, the property itself is lovely. Three acres of manicured grounds with beautiful views and wonderful spots to take in the sights...for example, the gazebo next to the pool is furnished with comfortable outdoor furniture where you can look out at the lake or at the planters full of flowers surrounding the turquoise blue pool. Although the temperatures exceeded 100 degrees almost every day of our visit, there was always a breeze to keep outdoor activities more comfortable. During our stay, the pier was taken down and moved closer to the house. The kids, ages 15, 12, & 8 had fun jumping off into the bath-warm lake water....there was no ladder to climb back out (which may simply have not been installed yet) which made getting out tricky (be advised if you are not young, lithe and strong of upper body!) There is a small beach down the walkway where the 12 & 8 year old had a wonderful time scooping up minnows with nets and plastic cups. My husband and the kids spent hours fishing all along the frontage....catching mostly sunfish and catfish to throw back....but the sheer number of fish they caught was impressive. My 8 year old son would literally drop his hook into the water and immediately get a bite. We swam every day in the pool and even went into the hot tub once or twice, despite the extreme heat. The pool is very nice and it was great to have it all to ourselves. There is a caretaker on the property a lot of the time (it's a big job!) and he could not have been more pleasant and helpful, turning on the outdoor fan for us, cleaning the pool, answering questions, etc. There is plenty of room for parking & the neighborhood and location is terrific.
The carriage house itself is quaint & quirky, complete w an underground tunnel leading to an extra bedroom. The beds are comfortable, the linens and storage areas plentiful & of good quality. We were all impressed with the furniture which was practical and obviously high quality. Lots of details from thick oriental carpets to pretty paintings on the walls.
Finally, the owners could not have been nicer! Very responsive when needed, but also really personable & welcoming and just...nice. We all left feeling that we'd had a great experience and that we would recommend it to anyone! Thank you so much!
Our son, daughter-in-law, 11 month old grandson and daughter enjoyed our vacation together in this exceptional property. We relaxed and relaxed and relaxed. The pool area is terrific. The private dock and beach area are wonderful. This is a quite well appointed place. An additional bathroom would have made it nearly perfect, as would HD TV (the large screen is hard to view and listen to), but those things are minor since thiis place was simply terrific. We hope to go back next year. THANK YOU!
There were 4 of us that stayed here and we had the best time! If you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay with more bang for your buck, this is it! I agree with the other person who wrote a review in saying that an additional 1/2 bath would have been my only negative. This was by far the best house on the lake! We visited the Shawnee National Park and toured the Garden of the Gods....AMAZING! The marina had a very welcoming atmosphere as well. Everyone was just so nice.
We stayed at this property for 4 days. We rented a pontoon boat one of those days and saw the entire lake ( about 90 miles of shoreline) and this house is the most impressive by far. We noticed when hanging out in the pool at different times, that all the boaters passing by, thought so as well. The carriage house was enough room for the 5 of us, (two couples and a 15 year old on the pullout), but could have used an extra bathroom or 1/2 bath. We went to Giant City Lodge for dinner one of the night, don't miss this place for family style chicken dinners. Did a few winerys, which was fun too. But the most fun was hanging out at the in ground pool with some cocktails.
