Why the Owner Chose Sausalito: This was our primary home for 7 years until we bought a large one. Sausalito is a magical place with views changing moment by moment.
The Unique Benefits at this Houseboat: We often stay at this houseboat when we are in town. We look forward to the tranquil open water views and picturesque vistas from every window and the deck. We always take a kayak ride out to visit the resident seals and view the San Francisco skyline. The deck is a perfect place for afternoon cocktails and to waved to the passing boats. On those chilly nights we light the fire and curl up on the couch to read.
I am the local Realtor who sells most of the floating homes. I live just a few doors away from Sidari and I am always available to help you find places to eat, tours to take or activities to enjoy. I also allow you to use my double kayak and canoe when you stay at Sidari besides the two kayaks that are on board.
Owner purchased this house boat in 1991
Sidari has a special whimsical charm that captures the heart and soul of all who stay here. You will see why when you arrive.
Views that knock your socks off!!!! Fireplace on chilly evenings, fully stocked with everything you would find in your own home, kayaks, whimsical original art with a seaside theme.
My mom and I loved itJ It was so tranquil and relaxing. We both wished we could have stayed longerJ You have an amazing little piece of paradise in Sausalito. I loved all your little decorations in your house. So very charming. We are keeping you on our list for any future quick get a ways. My mom and I did the dishes, took the trash out, striped the sheets, and added new sheets to the beds, cleaned the sinks and cleaned the toilet as wellJ
Thank you again for letting us spend 1 night on your houseboat. It was exactly what we needed for the last night.
My sister and I finally took our much-delayed retirement trip, spending it in Sausalito on this charming houseboat. We were in Sausalito the third week of August and the weather was perfection every single day. The houseboat was charming and comfortable. We enjoyed the mornings on the deck with our coffee, watching the fog clear, and the evenings on the deck with our happy hour cocktails. Occasionally our friendly "harbor cat" would come by for a visit, pawing at the door to be let in and then curl up in a chair for a nap. We (and the cat, I suspect) felt totally at home. This is a lovely alternative to a hotel. In fact, I'll not likely opt for something as mundane as a hotel room again. This is a great way to livel like a local. Thank you Michele for everything!
Michele was an excellent host. We could not have rented from a nicer person. She was there for our every need. She made sure our vacation was unforgettable.
It was a great week, we all liked to stay here and the kids enjoyed it the most. The dock is great and calm and we had a very good time cooking and reading. The location is the best for short trips to San Francisco and Muir woods/beach.
This is our last day on Sidari, and I must admit I feel a bit sad to leave this wonderful place.
Little peace of haven on earth, people around are lovely, boat is very comfartable, and suitable for family life.I really enjoyed coming back here after touring around all day.
My husband and his son found it thrilling to meat the sealions whilst on the kayac!
Whilst I loved sitting on the deck, with a book, in company of a grey tabby cat that came to say hello from times to times. If you see him around, pet him for me, he's ever so sweet.
THank you for this lovely stay,
Jean michel, lilian and Sophie
We stayed at Sidari for our 2012 spring break.. my wife and I and two teenage daughters. We hit a cold rainy spell in the San Francisco area that week but Sidari kept us warm and cozy. We cooked in a lot as the kitchen had all the right amenities. We probably slept too much, partially due to the very comfortable beds. We had originally planned to spend a couple days in Marin County and then a couple days in the city but this was the perfect middle location. The owners were terrific to work with and answered many helpful questions while planning our trip.
My husband and I have wanted to try life on a houseboat ever since we toured open houses in Sausalito five years ago. Since we are now renting our own home for a year to experiment with different living styles post-retirement, Sidari was a perfect escape for a month.
One of the nicest aspects was Michele and Gabor's thoughtful stocking of the basics: everything from tea to spices, so we didn't have to spend a bundle on things we would have to throw out a month later. They were also accessible by email almost immediately whenever we had a question.
Even though it was January, we had wonderful weather- mostly sunny - and even when we had an occasional rainstorm, it was cozy inside with the ample heater. I used the kayak almost daily to photograph the seals, herons, and cormorants that surrounded us, just a 15 minute trip away.
Sausalito is a great central location for exploration of both San Francisco and the neighboring area of Marin County. We hiked in the Marin Headlands, just minutes away, in Point Reyes, and Muir Woods. It was less than an hour to the wine country. In addition, the quirky, creative decorations of the other floating homes on the pier gave us something new to discover each time we walked the dock.
Locally, the town has several outstanding restaurants; FIsh and Avatar were favorites, but it we had the best dinner view in town from our own deck. You will love the feeling of being connected to nature here, from the gentle rhythms of the tide to the starry skies at night as you walk down the pier to your car. It is an unforgettable experience.
We are located on the water approximately 5 minutes by car to downtown Sausalito and 15 minutes by car to San Francisco. There is a bus across the street from the parking lot that takes you to the financial district and clock tower of San Francisco which is where the 'famous' Saturday Farmer's Market takes place. We are 5 minutes from Mill Valley and about 35 minutes from Muir Beach. In the Summer there is a free concert every Friday night at the Ferry Terminal. Bring a pic nic and wine and sit under the stars....
Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, boating, wildlife viewing, health/beauty spa, hot air ballooning
