Charming Cottage in Great Location

Spring Break with a 14 and 16 year old was delightful. The cottage is in downtown Oceanside right at the Pier. The kids, as well as the parents and dogs, could walk easily and safely everywhere. The bikes were a plus and we took advantage of the excellent bike trail that led from the harbor to my daughter's neighborhood 3 miles inland. This trail is a real asset to O'side - you never have to cross a road and follow the San Luis Rey River for miles.
The house is larger than appears in the photos. The tile floors and newly re-done bathrooms were great. The kitchen is a little small (counterspace) but the gas range was a plus for those who like to cook. The dining room is quite large and the leather couches in the living room gave us lots of room to watch movies at night after exploring San Diego.
We kayaked in LaJolla, trampolined in Chula Vista, visited SDSU, Pacific Beach as well as a couple of jaunts to the Ocean Beach and Del Mar Dog Beaches. In'N'Out Burger was a favorite lunch (we live in the Sierras and don't have access often!), Umi Sushi at the Regal Cinema complex one block away was very good. Harney Sushi nearby is an upscale version with contemporary decor and very bad acoustics. (Worth it for the Chuck Norris Roll). We also love the onion rings at Angelo's - Gyros too - there are 3 on Pacific Coast Highway. Anita's Mexican Food is an old favorite - been around forever. The best breakfast is at Swamis on Mission. The homemade corn beef hash (I order peached eggs which are always done perfectly) is awesome and the Acai Bowl is a winner.
Shops - GI Joe's and the military store on the corner of PCH are 2 faces that we always visit for poncho liners, boots and ammo cans. The kids like SurfRide just north of Vista Way on PCH. Good place for all of the surf clothes - our teens said "we love everything there!" We shop across the street at Treasures on the Coast. Owner, Roberto, is very knowledgeable and friendly. We almost always find some thing to take home.

Great Getaway

This cottage was a perfect spot for a family of 4 for a few days. We are from Florida, and started our journey up the California Coast in this awesome cottage. Much larger than pictures demonstrate.Great location, we walked EVERYWHERE! Close to the Coaster and a short ride to numerous nearby towns with tons to do. Great shops and neighbors. This cottage was great, we have tweens and also had family stop by-quite comfortable and low maintenance. Back patio is a bonus. Owners were great to work with, stayed in touch and available for questions. Would love to come back.

Recommended for: Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

This was our first experience with VRBO or renting a house for vacation purposes. As a family of 6, hotel rooms are such a challenge but after a recommendation by a friend, we opted to give VRBO a try. After wading through hundreds of options and ultimately relying on previous customer reviews, we chose the Petersen's beach cottage. The listing and house matched perfectly but what it may not have said was how roomy the house really was. Once again, as a family of 6, we need a little space.

The Petersen's have taken excellent care of this house and it was in very good repair and CLEAN. The master bedroom was very large which is where we ultimately put our three daughters. My husband and I chose the smaller bedroom and except for the double sized bed, it was adequate for our needs. My son used the pull out sofa in the living room. There was ample seating and the dining area was perfect for our larger family.

The house was stocked with everything you could possibly need while on vacation. Condiments, cleaning supplies (if needed) and even beach toys. There was a cracked boogie board that my son used all week until it finally snapped but we replaced it with a new one before we left.

Walking to the beach/pier was just as described...around the corner (less than a block). I personally loved that the house was located in the less touristy area of Oceanside. It still had plenty of amenities, restaurants and even a movie theater right across the street but I didn't feel overrun with tourists as I did when we ventured to the harbor. The location of this house is in a really quiet area, all neighbors were respectful and friendly.

I would give this a 5 star rating and would DEFINITELY rent again. We have already passed on information to several friends and family members for future use.

Sorensons and Harveys Relax in Oceanside

This was exactly as we expected. There were no surprises other than that is was really as close to everything as you had advertised. The trains didn't bother us a bit as we are quite charmed by locomotives and live fairly close to the cross-country tracks here in Gallup NM. We wish we had had four chairs to sit in when in the front yard which we actually enjoyed at least as much as the back. Your neighbors were extremely social, conversational and helpful. They welcomed us and Otto, the dog. We loved being so near to San Diego and the missions. You have a great spot and the Harveys are considering a return trip next year. We will be moving back to Michigan.

comfortable clean close to everything

This was our first time staying in Oceanside. The cottage is spacious and impeccably clean. We did a lot of walking in that everything is close by, downtown Oceanside, beach is around the corner. We particularly enjoyed the Thursday farmer's market and street fair. We would definitely recommend this if you are able to go, great ethnic foods and wares. We ate at 333Pacific, kind of expensive but delicious if you plan to go on a nice evening out. Adrienne and Jeff thank you, we can tell the care you take in your property and hope to be back soon :)
