I can't imagine staying anywhere else if we returned to the Pittsburg area. This rental was everything we had hoped it would be and more. The camp had all the comforts of home but still had the rustic charm we were looking for in a vacation rental. We loved being able to make some of our meals at home and then relax in the recliners in front of the gas fireplace. The camp and yard were spotless and is obviously very well cared for. The location is perfect - easy access to restaurants, food shopping, hiking trails and Moose Alley (also the ATV/snowmobile trail access is just across the road). Nikki could not have made the rental process easier or more pleasant. She checked in to be sure our stay was great before we even made it home!
For dinner we highly recommend Tracy's Hillside Grille - it was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Their cheese battered fried brocolli appetizer was easily the best vegetable dish I have ever eaten! We also ate at Buck Rub Pub (not so good but it might have just been what we ordered) and at Rainbow Grille at Tall Timber Resort which is just a short walk from the camp (dinner there was fabulous and a little more "fancy"). We heard that breakfast at Happy Corner Cafe was delicious but never got there ourselves.
We recommend the hikes to Fourth CT Lake, Garfield Falls, Mt Magalloway Tower, Falls in the River, and Johnson Memorial Forest (this is an easy "woodland walk" just across from the fire station on Rt 3). Easy access to Colebrook and the Dixville Notch area via Route 145. Also make sure to visit the East Inlet (especially if you plan to kayak). We saw a moose cow with a calf right on the side of Rt 3. We also saw a grey fox, deer, and tons of cool birds. The dock was great for fishing. If you love bird/animal watching, hunting, fishing, kayaking, beautiful scenery, waterfalls, etc. this is the perfect place! Make sure you get a map of the area that includes the logging roads so you can really get out there and explore (we bought ours for $3.50 at the Tall Timber Resort just down the road).
My Dad stayed here for several days and he loved it. Everything was immaculate and the cottage is cozy, comfortable and well equipped. He commented on how quiet and well insulated the camp was and the caretaker was very helpful in assisting him with operating the television and the fireplace (which he did not need). Great experience with people who take care and pride in their property. Thank you!
We loved this little cabin! It was located perfectly for snowmobiling. It was clean, neat, had everything we were looking for except the 1/2 bathroom??? Only 1 tiny bathroom for 4 people made it a bit difficult! That was how it was described in the ad, but none the less, it worked out well. There were 4 of us and it was a bit crowded with all the clothing needed to snowmobile, but as far as what we really needed it for, it was perfect. What a view and the trail access was just amazing! The gas stove heated the house up just right as it was pretty cold that weekend.
I think this camp was great for us because we made do, however, it was not ready for snowmobilers. It was not shoveled out and that made it very difficult to get in the house again with all the equipment. But that is minor stuff which we dealt with. I don't think I would rent again, only because it was a bit smaller than what we needed, but if your looking for a cozy, clean cottage, this is the place for you!
Beautiful view and location on the lake! Sunsets were beautiful, fishing was so much fun from the dock, feeding the ducks every morning with the kids was a blast. It had everything from towels to a grill. Very, Very clean. Enjoyed nice fires in the pit every night (unfortunately no wood was left for us but that's ok) and four wheeling trails right out of the drive way. We did over 250miles on the four wheeler in Pittsburg as you could even ride on the streets! this place was just for us! We cant wait to book next year! Thanks for sharing your cottage with us!!!
Just returned home from what felt like a second home to me. The cabin, the lake, and the whole area were just a perfect vacation. This lake and the surounding lakes are great for kayaking. The grill provided is excellent and never managed to get out to some of the area restaurants because of it. The wind hits the cabin directly so there were only a few bugs in the evening. What a fantastic place. I could have stayed the whole summer! Thank you to Nikki, cheryl , and of course Rich for a great stay. Hope to be back as soon as I can!
The place was very clean and had a great feeling for a relaxing time. Being so close to the lake added to the overall wonderful experience. No complaints other than the shortage of moose.
Will certainly come back.
