Ours is a 1 BR, quiet ground floor unit that is just steps from the ocean, pool and jacuzzi. The condo comes with a fully equipped kitchen, in suite washer and dryer and air conditioning. We have ceiling fans in both the living room and bedroom and Flat screen TV's in both with a DVD player in the Living room. There is a new queen size sleeper sofa with a 6' mattress in the living room and a new queen set in the bedroom. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort.
Once there, you can sit on the lanai and enjoy the sunsets in the evening and in the mornings enjoy your coffee while watching the sunrise light up the island of Malaka'i.
Our condo is within walking distance of the convenience store and grocery store. You are also minutes from the beautiful, historic shopping area of Lahaina. Papakea also has an activity director in the lobby who can assist you in booking endless fun, including luau's, whale watching tours in season, sailing, snorkeling trips, golf, biking down the volcano, and much more.
Papakea Resort on Maui's Kaanapali Coast is a relaxing haven on 13 acres of expansive lawns and lush gardens overlooking the crystal blue Pacific. Walk along the beautiful ocean or visit the nearby Kaanapali and Kapalua resort areas to enjoy their beaches, championship golf courses, fine shops and restaurants. Other amenities at Papakea Resort include 2 swimming pools, 2 jacuzzi, lighted tennis courts, two 12-hole putting greens. We also offer numerous picnic and barbecue areas complete with 6 gas grills around each pool. Perfect for family reunions and outdoor parties.
Russ and I live in North Carolina, our four children are grown and on their own. Together with our friends Jim and Annette, who also have two grown children decided to step out of our safety zone and buy in Maui.
Laurie McElmurry purchased this condo in 2006
On our first trip to Maui we became owners at beautiful Papakea Resort. We had been to many tropical places but there is nothing quite like Maui. It truly is paradise and Papakea is a true Hawaiian Oasis. We have been able to go there many times since 2006 and when we aren't there I love sharing our vacation rental and hearing the stories of our guests and what great times they our condo.
The convenience of Papakea to all beaches, shopping, grocery store you can walk to, restaurants, farmers market just can't be beat. Papakea is spread out over acres of lush grounds. All units have a wonderful view and are situated close to the pool, the grills, the putting green and the ocean yet it is quiet and peaceful after a day of seeing the sights. Taking my coffee down to the edge of our grass early in the morning, sitting on the bench and being entertained by a mother whale and her baby - that was the clincher!
The trip was fabulous and we will enjoy the benefits of the warmth and sunshine for weeks to come.
Your unit was excellent. We really appreciated the cleanliness and all the kitchen utinsels. Papakea is a lovely resort and I enjoyed the bench by the ocean for early morning whale watching. Will recommend your unit as well as Papakea to our friends.
Dear Laurie and Russ,
Thank you so much for making your condo available to us
I took my 14 year old son and friend to surf and hipline (we had several friends staying in the area in expensive hotels…this was perfect price point)
It was so nice to have your condo as a base and also enjoy the quiet when we returned from our surfing and other activities
I really appreciated Dave (your go to guy)
He provided the memory foam cover for the pull out couch
(I left it on the couch for others to enjoy)
Overall after a long night of getting into Papakea…the rest was perfect
The beach chairs and putters we used quite a bit
I loved the location, we surfed Kaanapali beach (in front of the Kaanapali Alli) where our friends stayed
It was nice to go back to Papakea and not have the crazy beach and people in front of us
Tide pools and turtles were abundant in front of your condo
The shopping center across the street was very easy and helpful and Slappy Cakes the restaurant on the corner was awesome
Again Mahalo for your kind words, and calling me when I had questions…you live Aloha style
PLEASE extend a thanks to Dave for coming through with the memory foam mattress
We left it in the beautiful condition we found it
I am sure we will return
We had an awesome vacation! Maui is beautiful. The condo was clean and comfortable, and the property was excellent. The owner Laura was pleasant & helpful in making our vacation enjoyable. We loved cooling off in the pool while bbqing after a hot day of snorkeling, shopping at Whalers and visiting Lahaina. We especially enjoyed the zip line in Kanapali and the helicopter tour of the island. We will definitely return to this condo in the future. Aloha!
Everything is exactly as described in the listing - just better! The property is very clean and very well-maintained. Sometimes this seems to go even too far, which is also the only reason for not giving 5 stars. Construction work is currently disturbing, but even when this will be completed, gardening could start a little later in the morning. We loved quiet breakfasts. We stayed in the conco for 14 nights.
The apartment was great -- it had boogie boards, a cooler, putters and balls for the putting green, beach towels, good barbecue tools... everything we needed. It was clean. Our toddler loved being on the ground floor so she could run out the patio door and explore. We enjoyed the pools and hot tubs, and never knew what a hit putting would be with our toddler.
The only thing we didn't like was the bed -- to us it felt mushy -- but I understand that the pillow top bed is desirable to other people, so you might like it just fine.
Parking was easy, walking to the grocery store and a few restaurants was easy. Lots of great beaches nearby.
Would definitely stay here again.
My wife and our two kids and I spent a lovely 9 days at Papakea Resort in this unit. I would recommend it to anyone.
The unit is a ground floor garden view corner unit towards the back of the complex. It has pleasant appealing views from the patio window and lanai of the beautiful tropical courtyard, pool, and well-kept koi pond - even a slice of the ocean!. As a corner unit, the living room has an extra window which is nice for natural light. It is extremely convenient to parking.
The photos accurately reflect the unit's condition - everything is clean and in good repair with obvious recent upgrades. A/C worked well - deluxe sleeper couch was great. Kitchen had everything we needed. Unit is plentifully stocked with beach and game extras which we enjoyed.
The owner was friendly, patient, and a treat to work with - made it extremely easy to rent, answering all my questions promptly and accurately. NO hassle - easier than many hotel reservations I've made.
Papakea Resort itself is lovely - a low-rise spread-out complex of condos, some rented by Aston, some rented by owners. No high-rises towering over you - feels quiet and private. Two very nice albeit un-spectacular pools, two very nice large hottubs, and a bunch of top-notch gas grills available for barbequeing lunch or dinner.
While quiet at night is reasonably enforced, Papakea is kid-friendly and fun. A pricey convenience store and more reasonable grocery store are within 1 minute of the resort by car or a very easy short walk. So are a collection of restaurants, including a Subway. No food service or bar on resort property.
The grounds are well maintained and monitored. You are ON the ocean - but there is no beach off the resort as such - small sand spits and rocks... which are nice for snorkeling and turtle-watching. (!) The lawns by the seawall are immaculately groomed and have lounges for oceanside sunning. Nice sand beaches are available steps from the resort boundary, and you're a 6-minute drive by car to what may be the best beach on the planet - Ka'anipali. The walk down to the "wrong side" of Black Rock at Sheraton Maui from Papakea is long but fun.
The resort IS older but in excellent condition and immaculate. We were not bothered once by any of the maintenance going on on the other side of the resort.
Check in and out was great - no stigma attached to renting from an owner vs Aston direct.
Expedia Travel maintains a concierge service in the lobby - professional and low pressure
Unit was clean and complex was nice with the two pools (one heated) and two putting greens. Best beaches were a walk to short drive away. From here Lahaina, Kaanapali, and Kapalua are all pretty accessible. There was no sandy beach in front of the complex but we did enjoy snorkeling in front of the property. Owner was responsive to any needs we had and having the air conditioning and washer/dryer was a big plus.
Papakea Resort is off Highway 30 at Lower Honoapiilani Rd. It is spread out on 13 acres of land with beautiful gardens, lush foilage and spectacular Koi Ponds. You can walk to a major grocery store and the conveient store is only steps from the resort. The quaint town of Lahaina is a seven minute drive south on Hwy 30. Whalers village with so many shops and restaurants is a quick four minute drive. There are five star beaches within a few miles north or south of Papakea. There are also some bars and places to eat you can walk to.
Other Activities: health/beauty spa, miniature golf, shopping, boating, wildlife viewing, shuffleboard, kayaking, snorkling.
