Photos and Description of the Star Lake vacation cottage rental
6 bedrooms, sleeps 11 in beds plus 2 additional, 2 full baths.

Authentic, vintage 1890’s Adirondack cottage, graced with a private yard and hundreds of feet of sandy shoreline and a picturesque setting on pristine Star Lake is yours to enjoy. Classic pine walls, hand-hewn timber railings, antique furnishings, sitting porches, and a wood stove take you back in time to when Grover Cleveland was President and families traveled by train and buggies to vacation together at one of the most special lakes in the Adirondacks.

Picture the Waltons on vacation, sleeping 11 to 13, where every bedroom has a view of the lake and a reading chair where you can enjoy your favorite book or just soak in the tranquility. The kitchen has a pantry and all the amenities. There's a boat house, dockboat w/motor, raft, stone fire pit/fireplace and a wood-fired cedar soaking tub nestled in the privacy of the pines The quaint town is minutes away and has a beautiful and challenging public golf course, grocery store, restaurant, and hospital. Lifetime memories await you.

Star Lake is very unique not only in its shape from whence the name came, but also in that the entire shoreline is sandy. There is even a sandbar within swimming distance from the cottage where the water is shin deep and you can sit in chairs and play games on a table (if you bring them). The village of Star Lake is less than a mile away and has a grocery store, gas station, restaurant. public golf course, post office, antique shop, hardware store, and a hospital.

There are countless hiking trails in the area, numerous State Parks, and you are only 55 minutes away from the high peaks region where you'll find some of the most scenic trails anywhere in the country. Twenty minutes away in the Cranberry Lake region is one of the largest remote areas in the state. Just south of the lake are thousands of acres of hills, lakes, ponds, and virgin forests. The new Wild Center Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks in Tupper Lake is just 45 minutes away, and the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake is 1.7 hours away. You might also visit Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. They are an hour and 20 minutes to the east. For the truly adventuresome, some of the best white water rafting in the country is found on the Black River 1 and 1/2 hours to the West. Whatever suits your fancy, you'll find it in the Adirondacks.

Wonderful place!

Some of my family members and I had the pleasure of staying at this terrific cottage over the long Labor Day weekend. We all had a ball! The cottage is decorated in a very quaint Adirondack style. It was comfortable and clean. The new kitchen is great, along with the new bathroom which you enter off the back porch. The dock boat which you can take out to the the sand bar is experience we will always remember, quite fun! The owners left a welcoming gift and the manager was very helpful. I have already recommended this place to others. We can't wait to come back!

Family Fun

Yea, we have booked again this year! The family is so excited to be returning to this amazing cottage. As described it has such incredible character and the location is perfect. You take a dozen steps from the front porch and you are in the cleanest, clearest lake in the Adirondack Mountains. What I really enjoyed most was becoming reacquainted with my brother, each morning we would wake early and kayak around the misty lake. It was so quite, all you heard were the loons. It was nice just spending time with family without any interruptions from the outside world, no cell phones ringing; no emails to check, and no place that we had to be. In the cabin there was a sign that read; “In the Mountains You Forget to Count the Days”, how true that was. On this lake everyone takes their motorized raft to the sandbar, (true social networking). People you have never met will have you engaged in some sort of activity; this is such a unique experience, kind of like tailgating on water. My parents said it was like years ago when you met people camping and before you knew it your shared camp fires became a lifelong friendship. When we booked we were informed that the owners have put in a new kitchen and bathroom, we are dying to see it. You can tell that they love the place and that they want us to love it as well. It would be hard to come up with a suggestion for them to improve the cottage as it’s so special already and very well equipped. The hot tub is awesome; it’s a wood burning cedar soaking tub. When you start dinner you also start the fire for the hot tub and fill it with water, and when you walk home from the pub the tub is hot and inviting. Without jets you can really enjoy the sounds of your surrounding; birds, owls, loons, other camps having bomb fires and families laughing together. The smell of the cedar and the smoke smell from the fire are wonderful. The hot tub is also just a few steps from the lake so after you jump out of the hot tub it’s best to jump straight into the lake, talk about refreshing. The whole property is surrounded by trees; it’s a very private and large yard. We can’t wait for summer to get here.

Serene Lake Front Stay

5 of 5
Submitted: March 30, 2011 Stayed: August 2010
SIS Stayed: 8/2010

I fell in love with the rustic-antique character of the cottage. Everything was as promised; plus we were greeted with a bottle of wine. Customer service has been excellent. There were 10 people in my party, ages ranging 14-75 yrs; something for everyone (canoeing, kayaking, swimming (sandy beach), motorized dock, DVD and TV in the bedrooms, games; nearby hiking trails; feeding the ducks on the dock…). The cedar soaking tub was great for the cooler evenings. It got much use! :) No one c/o being bored. The dock was great for taking around the lake (Gas was included). Plenty of fire wood for evening marshmallows and s’mores. The dining room was great for playing finch, when “Mother Nature” was unkind. Plenty of room for everyone to have their space, whether inside or out. The kitchen was a little small, but I wasn’t there for gourmet cooking. Nice gas grill on the spacious front porch. Great lounging on the spacious back porch. Plenty of dishes and cookware available. All I had to do was pack myself, blankets, towels and food/drinks. Plenty of closet and drawer space for clothing. Sorry...No cell phone or internet access. A side effect of serene living. Lol. The serene setting and friendly neighbors made this a nice get away. Allergy and asthma sufferer; had no problems.:) We are coming back!

BEWARE:do NOT recommend

1 of 5
Submitted: March 18, 2011 Stayed: August 2010
allergy sufferers and mom's of kids under age 5 beware, this is an old/musty DARK house, which is not kid friendly and not conducive to kids being independant.
the kitchen space is awful and does not face the lake. there are NO counters/cabinets or place to store provisions. there is a closet outside of the kitchen stacked with breakable dishes. moms doing the cooking:do not expect kids to be able to help you out! you will feel isolated and ther is NO dishwasher.
the dining room is similarly isolated and does not have lake views. it seats 6.
the bedrooms are <=3 /5 star quality of beds . the furniture is old/antique so do not expect a feeling of clean to unpack your clothes. we lived out of our bags. there were several bees(i killed one to 2 a day and my son is allergic...not fun) that came in through the windows int he 2 bedrooms we stayed in(best beds!?). they were doing reno's and the walls were covered with boards. the electrical cords were exposed and would be a hazard for little kids.
there is only one bathroom upstairs. even my 6 yo could not 'go potty' independantly. she could not close off the tap water herself afte she washed her hands. there was only enough hot water for one to 2 people to shower in an evening. bring camp suds to wash in the lake.
the living room is also smallish. you can sit at most 4 people together on the sofa to watch the mini tv.
the hot tub is NOT treated with any chemical and it faces the driveway w/o lake views. would not recommend if you have sensitive skin. i was in once for a few min before realizing it was not treated. my folliculitis lasted atleast a month after i left. this was a sore spot for me as we chose this place for the hot tub, and then could not use it!
there are NO decent grocery stores nearby, and there are no decent restaurants. the local store sold moldy fruits and veggies. if you go, stock up on food before you come! dont's know where you can store it, though
if it is a nice sunny week like we did you can still have fun, as, the floating dock is great and the lake is beautiful. however, if hte weather is lousy, you would not want to hang out in this house and there are no closeby attractions. you'd be better off camping and saving your $ than staying at this house!
we have rented a home every year on cyberrentals in this region. this is the first time i felt scammed. there are much better homes for this price range available. maybe if it was 1/2 the price you could consider

Great location on a wonderful lake!

5 of 5
Submitted: August 15, 2010 Stayed: July 2010
As advertised: quaint cabin on lovely Star Lake, one of the nicest small Adirondack lakes we're visited. Decks on both sides of the cabin guarantee sun in the morning and the afternoon (when there's sun, of course!) The dock boats on the lake are something to be seen to be believed and quite fun!! Cabin comfortably sleeps 10 and has enough bedroom floor space to accommodate 12. Living area is well equipped (though perhaps not quite enough lighting.) Dining area is a little cramped but we managed to fit in 12 for both meals and family game time. Kitchen is spacious and well equipped but with not quite enough food preparation counter space (which we understand the owner plans to remedy this fall.) Note that "first floor" half bath is in an out build/garage. Ample supply of firewood for both the wood-fired hot tub (wonderful!) and evening campfires/marshmallow roasting. All in all, a very nice spot!
