Lovely cottage on the eastern shore of Northern Eleuthera.
Whale Point Cottage is surrounded by stunning scenery. The Atlantic is a short walk from the back patio and the calm, turquoise waters of the bay are just across the road on the other side. We always run out of time exploring all that is around us.
There are two bikes in the shed, boogie boards under the house and a set of kayaks across the way on the beach. Don't forget to bring your snorkel gear, there are lots of nearby places that are waiting for you to explore. Just a short walk north along the coast yields treasures galore to delight any serious beachcomber. There is amazing spelunking just a short drive away. And the list of water things to do seems never ending.
This little cottage at Whale Point was everything we had hopes for in a get away. It is down a rural dirt road, very private with stunning views of the ocean. The cottage has every thing we needed and having the use of the kayaks and beach chairs was a nice touch. There are so many adventures within a short drive that it is hard to know what to recommend. The Hatchet Bay caves are incredible, all of the surrounding beaches are private and unique, the local food is authentic and tasty. Definitely visit Daddy Joes in Gregory town over the Glass Window Bridge and order the Guava Duff. They also make an outstanding margarita and make you feel like family while you are there. I would recommend bringing some food as it can get expensive and groceries are kind of scarce. Don't miss the sunrise on the back porch and check out the kayaks on the bay. We saw huge star fish and had sea turtle encounters! I would highly recommend this place just be ready for adventure.
The listing was accurate, the property lovely, and the owner a delight to work with. We were tremendously grateful that the owner had the property manager meet us at the airport, as locating the property alone after dark would have been nearly impossible. While it would not be an ideal vacation for everybody, for two busy professionals, it was perfect. Having coffee or cocktails and just reading books on the back porch, watching the Atlantic crash on the rocks was so relaxing. And having 2 beaches in easy walking distance was great. One day when we arrived the only footprints on the beach were ours from the day before. The kayaks made for a fun activity -- getting out among the sea turtles and starfish as big as a hubcap. Wow. We can't wait to return.
The only caveat: while the food situation has improved, Eleuthera is still not a dining destination. There are few choices and it is all expensive.
Incredible house - the perfect size for us. Very private with a magnificent view of the Atlantic. The house is like new with everything we needed. The caretaker "Red" was very helpful and informative. Wendell's car handled all of the tough roads during our beach searches and it was reasonably priced. The neighbors were great. My favorite thing was the covered decks with incredible views of the Atlantic (back deck) and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean from the front Deck. The Eleutheran people are very nice and helpful. We found most of the best beaches on the Island and enjoyed at least one of them every day.
You cant go wrong with Margaritavilla!!!
We would advise that you bring your own meat, fish, vegetables and fruits with you if you can as the shopping is limited. During October, many of the restaurants are closed so we did not get the check them out but we heard they were great.
Inside the coffee table they have some guides that show how to find the best beaches. It is a little bit of a challenge as the roads are not in the best of shape -but once you find these top ranked beaches, it is worth it.
Thank you for the fantastic house, views and fun.
This cottage is perfect, near the end of a mile dirt road with the Atlantic Ocean crashing on cliffs on your back porch and a beautiful view of the Caribbean bay from the front porch hammock. If that's not enough, the house is perfect size, very well built and has everything you can think of. Everything is labeled as well. Both the owner and those he deals with on Eleuthera are very helpful, inviting and are experienced in renting; making for a great stay. This rental looked awesome on homeaway but was even better in person. I'd recommend it to anyone going to Eleuthera.
This was a local area with a fun local beach club on the bay near by. The beautiful Glass Bridge is at the end of the street. Preachers Cave, grocery store, gas station are not far about 10-15 minutes. The Cove is a wonderful place to get a drink about 20 minutes south. I strongly recommend taking the water taxi to Harbour Island beautiful beaches and great community (golf carts are the main source of transportation). The taxi is about 15-20 minutes from the house. Kayaks across the street from the house. Snorkeling stuff and bikes can be found in the shed. Great experience!
I feel lucky to have found this house. I decided on Eleuthra for its natural beauty and many beaches. Dining out, shopping, and other commercial activities are not important to us. However, we did find a great restaurant on the island...Tippy's. The owners of this house were very helpful before we even arrived. They set us up with a car with Wendall. He was also helpful and so friendly. He picked us up and got us to our house even. The caretaker of this house was available for questions as well. Between the caretaker and the car rental, we were given a local flavor of the island. The house was beautiful. There is a spacious master bedroom and bath with a view of the Atlantic and two twin mattress's in a loft. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a nice sitting area with a sofa sleeper. The view of the back porch is of the atlantic and the front of the caribbean. There isn't a beach on the atlantic but we enjoyed watching the sun rise each morning from our porch. The beach on the caribbean side is short walk and well worth it. We used the kayaks that Steve and Mica so graciously let us use and saw turtles in a hidden salt water pond just down the beach. Snorkeling on this beach is great. We found coral across the bay. We used the snorkel equipment, again provided by the owners to enjoy many beaches. We drove to the other end of the island and enjoyed many beaches each day. I could go on and on about this house and its wonderful owners. If you get a chance, visit this lovely island and the very friendly people that inhabit it!
If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. We enjoyed the adventure of being in a rural area and enjoying the majestic views and salt spray of the Atlantic contrasted with the azure blue waters of the bayside. The kayaks were a plus as well as not having to bring flippers on the plane. At Steve's suggestion, we did bring summer wetsuits for snorkeling in January.
The house is beautifully appointed and maintained, better than the photos. The drinking water is from bottled water in an urn. The water from the tap is chlorinated but not drinkable. We didn't have any problem with this system. Apparently, it is the same with all the houses in the area.
Red, the property manager and Wendall, the car rental person, were very helpful and available as were people in general. There is a large market on the way from the airport that was well stocked and the prices were not as high as we expected. We went to several beaches, all scenic and hardly seeing a soul. The one day we wanted to eat out was a Monday when the couple of restaurants in the area were closed. I experienced some insect bites when we walked through shaded areas, my partner did not.
All in all, we would recommend this property to anyone wanting to experience the natural beauty of the island in a rural setting.
