Overview

Playa Las Tortugas / Turtle Beach Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

“Each day, I would ride a boogie board in the perfect surf, kayak the pristine estuary that borders the property, do a little birding or horseback riding, and tour by car and foot the scenic Sierra mountains. Then, about 9 p.m. each of the three nights I was there, I’d walk a few hundred yards from my villa to the research station. There, I worked alongside trained staff, spotting nesting turtles, then digging up the eggs for incubation ... ” The Washington Post

The lovely, vine-draped, 'Casa Luna' (House of the Moon) offers a wonderful tropical experience. Casa Luna is one of 10 beautiful Villas for rent at Playa las Tortugas.

Playa Las Tortugas lies on the west coast of Mexico just 70 miles north of Puerto Vallarta and the Bay of Banderas, in a setting with miles of sandy beach on our west and hundreds of acres of mangrove estuary on our east, nesting habitat for sea turtles and more than 125 species of birds.

Your scenic drive north through areas of old-growth jungle which border the coast is simply spectacular. Before arriving you might select a variety of fresh fruits and coconut products in stands along the road. Optionally we can arrange for transportation for you to and from the airport, and meals prepared by our wonderful cooks can be arranged.

Our Casa Luna is the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation. It is nestled amidst palm trees and beautiful gardens. Listen to the surf as you have your morning coffee, or fall asleep to gentle waves at night.

Each of the two king bedroom suites is decorated with rustic furnishings from the artisan community of 'Tonalá. Sliding doors open to patios with views of the coconut palm grove and gardens to the beach. The suites are complemented with colorfully tiled bathrooms. King-sized beds, desks, and ample closet space and drawers help to insure your comfort.

The main floor is comprised of living room with additional sleeping for two, dining area, a well-equipped kitchen including dishwasher, breakfast bar, and a half-bath. All designed for your convenience in your vacation home. Take the opportunity to enjoy a traditional meal prepared by one of our cooking staff, or make yourself at home in our complete kitchen. Individual shaded terraces, with that 'big blue' Pacific ocean view, connect to the living and dining areas providing a nice space for a relaxed breakfast or afternoon nap.

Up above you'll find a peaceful terrace that spans the entire rooftop, with its own woven-palm shade 'palapa', with overhead fan. Take your favorite book and beverage. Listen to the surf, and the sounds of the many birds. It is also the perfect spot for sunbathing, grilling lunch or dinner and watching a spectacular sunset. Add a margarita or piña colada and every element is in place for the perfect tropical vacation.

Surrounding Area

Our entire state of Nayarit area enjoys one of the most favorable climates in the world. Average daily year- round temperatures range from highs of 80-85 degrees (perfect beach weather) to lows of 60-70 degrees (perfect sleeping weather). Swim year round, but consider packing a light sweater for the evenings in the winter months. Rain, when it falls, generally occurs between June and September as night-time or pre-dawn thundershowers.

You can visit small typical Mexican villages, enjoy fresh fish and other local seafood at small rustic beachfront restaurants, tour a tropical river and waterfalls, see historic San Blas, and drive up through the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains to colonial Tepic where crafts of the Huichol Indians are found.

Playa Las Tortugas has kilometers of uncrowded, clean sand beach, and a number of activities both on property and nearby such as Surfing, Wave Kayaking, Boogie Boarding, Fishing, and Shelling, Canoeing, Whale Watching, Bird Watching, Walking or Running on Miles of warm Sand Beach, and Sea Turtle Conservation activities (during season) at the Sea Turtle Conservation Camp. Frequently there is one festival or another in small towns within an hour of our location. There are a number of excursions you might take, with or without a guide.

Playa Las Tortugas is located on a section of coastline which is nesting habitat of several species of sea turtle in the beautiful state of Nayarit, Mexico 70 miles north of the Puerto Vallarta (PVR) International Airport and about 50 miles west of Tepic, the colonial capital of Nayarit.

We are happy to arrange transportation for you in our private shuttle, you may rent a car and drive your self which a large number of our guests do, or if you'd like to be more adventurous you may decide to come by bus and local taxi. We can send you details on the numerous car rental companies, or instructions on which buses and local taxis to take. It's quite easy to find your way from the Puerto Vallarta (PVR) International Airport to Playa Las Tortugas, and the roads are normally well-maintained. Your valid driver's license is accepted in Mexico, and the driving rules are virtually the same as most countries. Write us for a copy of detailed driving instructions and a map. Your scenic drive north from the airport takes less than 2 hours and goes through areas of old-growth jungle and coastal hills.

About Marianne

We met in Mexico 34 years ago. It took until 2001 to find the perfect place! We have 4 grown kids, recently moved from Truckee, CA. to Reno, NV. and spend at least 2.5 months down at our lovely Casa Luna. Plan to retire at least half time at PLT in the near future. Casa Luna is the only place where we can spend time

at and Not need a vacation when we get back to our home in the US.

Marianne purchased this villa in 2001

Why Marianne chose Playa Las Tortugas / Turtle Beach

We looked for a long time to find a place in Mexico...in various areas. The developer of PLT had a real vision when this place was built. It is pristine and quiet...no vendors to hassle us and every villa has a wonderful view of the ocean. It is an eco friendly resort, and the efforts to rescue endangered sea turtles are just outstanding.

What makes this villa unique

Peace and quiet. Read those books you've been putting off. Enjoy your family and friends. Everything slows down so you really enjoy your surroundings!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Our stay at Playa de Las Tortugas was simply excellent ! We enjoyed all of it. From the quietness of the place, the beaches without crowd, the conditions of the compound (very well maintained) the friendliness of the staff, to the weather... that was great. Casa Luna is extremely well equipped and is bigger than what we could feel with the pictures. The top deck is delightful to get your lunch and enjoy the view. Definitively we will arrange trips back to Playa de Las Tortugas. Thanks, Marianne, it was everything you said....and more!

Great place to rest and enjoy nature.

  • 4 of 5

I stayed a week in Casa Luna with my two kids and my wife and we had a wonderful time. Playa Tortugas is an isolated spot in the Pacific Coast where you can enjoy the sea, a close to virgin beach, the pool and a good place to stay an relax. Casa Luna is the perfect size for a small family that like to enjoy tranquility, good food, and open spaces. The staff did a wonderful job to make us feel at home and they took care of the cooking (prepared to eat well), the cleaning and we even got some coconuts. Marianne thanks a lot for sharing your place with us.

Poor maintenance of the villa.

  • 2 of 5

We spent 2 weeks in late Match 2015 at Villa Luna. The common areas of the Playa Las Tortuga sight are well maintained with gardens ,a nice pool ,plenty of space between the villas and an awesome 7 mile, undeveloped beach that is swimmable.

Villa Luna however has fallen away behind in maintenance and is NOT recommended unless you want a "camping-type" experience. Eg. Our ceiling in the kitchen (2nd floor) dripped continuously for 10 days due to a 10 hour rain storm the day after we arrived. The floor of the sundeck (3rd floor) was the problem. It was beautifully tiled ,wall to wall, many years ago but the grout has cracked and leaks into room below. The sliding doors don`t slide & some of the screens don`t fit. We got tired of putting them back on the their tracks. Worst of all, the villa reeks of a musty ,mildew odor. We tried airing it out but it did not improve the atmosphere enough. There has been a long term build up of mildew in anything made of fabric , etc. The villa`s interior atmosphere is close to ,if not, a true health hazard. I understand that the villa is ~15 years old & in a tropical climate deterioration takes place so there must be considerable expense in keeping up with it. None of these problems were made known to us by the rentee but they now tell us that major renovations are planned for June 2015. We understand from talking to others on the sight that other villas are in better shape.

FYI: It is 25-30 minute drive on a very rough 10 km road into Playa Las Tortugas. Don`t give up ,just keep going (best to be driving a Hummer though). We have vacationed in Mexico at least 6 times including a couple of days in the jungle near the Guatemala border so we aren`t total novices & this is the 1st complaint we have filed.

What else ¿

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place for Christmas without the crowd of year end... a place where we could relax.

How lucky we are to have discovered Playa de las tortugas. First of all... there are only few houses in the compound which means you can enjoy kilometers or miles of beaches almost alone. Weather was simply perfect... and the house was extremely well equipped. In fact we found the house bigger than expected, with many balconies so that you delight the view at different time of the day and from different room.

We also liked the "shopping" to Platanitos... take the canoe, cross the estuary, go over the hill and buy in the local tiendita all you need (keep it simple !) and if the grocery do no have... you can negotiate with of of the restaurants to get what you miss.

So to summarize... hassle-free - relaxing - friendly staff - what more we need ?

TURTLES TURTLES

  • 5 of 5

EVERYTHING the owner says is 100% correct: clean private beach, common area well maintained. But the best part was participating in the harvesting of Olive Ridley turtle eggs and the release of the baby turtles. What a memory for my 6 year-old grandson: he actually was touching a female as she laid her eggs & caught some as they came out! We had a 14 month old with us: the balconies are not safe for a toddler but plenty of other space, high chair and pak'n play are available, by reservation. Definitely consider the Food Service. Aurora and Isabel prepare tasty, nutritious fare with smiles. The office staff are very responsive.

Simply Amazing

  • 5 of 5

A group of friends and I wanted to all go on a beach vacation together, but in a more intimate setting that a bunch of hotel rooms. A friend of my boss had told him about a beach community they stayed at and had a great time releasing turtles, soaking up the sun, and not being bothered by beach vendors. So we checked out the website, likes what we saw, and ended up booking four houses. We had so much fun.

We spent most of our time at the pool or the beach. We did venture across the estuary one day to a small beach town called Platanitos. Had awesome seafood, loved the empanadas, and the ballenas(32 oz ice cold Pacificos). We then walked/swam(the tide had come in) to our little 'town'. We took turns eating at each others houses, playing games, bbq ing. I proposed to my now wife :) This was one of the most relaxing and fun trips I have ever been on. As our group of friends gets older and has children, we all plan on returning as often as we can to enjoy this amazing place. We would only do one thing differently. We loaded up our suburbans at the Costco in Puerta Vallarta with tons of food and beverages and only had the onsite staff cook for us twice. Next time, we are only getting drinks in PV, and leaving all the cooking to the staff. Their authentic food was SO GOOD! And you got tons of it, so you could just have them do dinners and there were plenty of leftovers to snack on. All in all, great time, great people, highly recommend!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review of Casa Luna and Playa las Tortugas. I fell in love with this place over ten years ago and it is wonderful to hear those feelings shared by a happy guest! Look forward to having you and your friends return.

Another Great Memory Created

On our second visit to Las Tortugas, we were as happy or happier than our first. I you are willing to take the time and effort to get away from the normal tourist areas, this place is well worth the work. Casa Luna is clean, well decorated and laid out perfectly for a great Mexico getaway. Trip three will take place next year!
