Photos and Description of the Stowe vacation cabin rental
sleeps 4 comfortably: 2 bedrooms (1 king / 2 twins), 1 full bath

Welcome to Thornapple Cottage, a true log cabin in Stowe, Vermont.

Please check the availability calendar before inquiring. You will find it as a little blue link above, between Map and Rates.

This tastefully furnished log cabin is nestled privately on five and a half acres with an outdoor year-round hot tub and x-c skiing/sledding from the front door. Despite its private setting, it is only minutes from dining and shopping, as well as world-class skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort or cross-country skiing at famous Trapp Family Lodge.

The cabin is tucked away in a little dell at the edge of the woods where you can relax, slow down and unwind, or -- if you prefer -- keep in touch with wireless broadband and satellite TV. Comfortably furnished, the cabin has a full kitchen with lots of counter and cupboard space, a king-sized bed in one bedroom, and two twins in the other, washer/dryer, and A/C

The cottage and surrounding land: This log cabin cottage is situated on five and a half acres of pastoral privacy with mountain views. Sip coffee in your skivvies on the porch and watch wildlife in the meadow below; or enjoy the outdoor hot tub in privacy. Take nature walks from your front door, then come home to nestle in front of a crackling fire in the field stone fireplace.

Things to do in Stowe: The cottage is a just a mile and a half from the center of Stowe Village and its many shops, restaurants, and galleries. Stowe is famous for its alpine and cross country skiing, and its many activities -- winter and summer -- and of course our spectacularly vivid fall foliage. Come in January and have fun at our annual winter carnival; come in summer and enjoy outdoor concerts at Trapp Family Lodge; come in mid-October and take in a huge, juried craft show; come during spring time off-season (April - end of June) and enjoy not only exceptionally reasonable rates, but the beauty of a lush, Vermont spring in full bloom, including our annual flower festival; come in late fall for a quiet, romantic get-away.

Sports enthusiast?: If dining, shopping, and luxuriating at Stowe's exceptional spas seems too tame, check out the skiing at Stowe Mountain Resort, or go cross country skiing or snow shoeing at Trapp Family Lodge or any of the other three area touring centers. Take a snowmobile tour, or go sledding. Maybe take a hike on many miles of scenic trails and bring your dog! Maybe golf is your thing? Stowe offers four excellent golf courses within ten miles. Or perhaps you'd like to go horseback riding, or mountain biking? The opportunities for outdoor recreation are endless.

About LeeLee Goodson

I'm a teacher and my husband is a veterinarian. We both spent our childhoods in Stowe, and after leaving for school(s) and subsequent travel, we each decided to return, where we 're-met,' married, and have happily raised our children.

LeeLee Goodson purchased this cabin in 1984
Why LeeLee Goodson chose Stowe

We adored this cabin the moment we saw it. This was where we raised our two children and only left because we purchased a nearby farm and began our veterinary practice; but we couldn't bear to sell the cabin -- which is why we now rent it.

Notes: This cottage is an authentic Vermont log cabin, charmingly decorated, yet also furnished with modern conveniences for your comfort, such as wireless broadband and satellite TV. Cell phone coverage is good. The house also comes equipped with dishes, cooking pans, linens, towels, paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels, hand soap, dish detergent, laundry soap, and basic spices. A Shaw's supermarket is one mile away. We provide plenty of firewood (it's stacked on the porch), heat, electricity, and snow plowing. There are outdoor garbage and recycle bins, which we will empty at the end of the rental. We will ensure that the path from the drive to the house is shoveled upon your arrival, and after any major storms, but should we get just a dusting to a couple of inches, you'll need to shovel the walkway if you desire. A snow shovel is on the porch. There's a sledding hill on the premises, but you'll need to provide your own sled(s).

Clean-Cozy-Convenient!

5 of 5
Submitted: February 7, 2010 Stayed: January 2010
We rented this cabin for a week in February. It is very clean and warm. The fireplace is beautiful and the pre chopped wood made starting a fire effortless. It's an 8 minute ride to Stowe mountain, there is a grocery store minutes away and plenty of great restaurants nearby. The hot tub was amazing after skiing! We were able to bring our dog along with us which made us (and him) very happy. There is a lot of privacy and the road nearby is very quiet. Internet access was perfect and the cable was also a plus.
One of our favorite things was the little woodchuck who chose to hibernate outside of the cellar window- it was cool to see an animal hibernating in its natural habitat! Overall it was a great vacation and we felt very "at home".
We would definitely rent here again!

Owner's Response: Yes, we've dubbed the woodchuck "Norris". Get it? Woodchuck Norris? No idea why he chose our basement window well for his hibernation spot, but he's adorable all curled up and snoozing... Glad you enjoyed your stay!

Perfectly Lovely Cabin!

When we got engaged in October, there was only one place I could think of to go away for a few days after the wedding. We are taking a longer honeymoon this summer but wanted a few days to get away. Thornapple Cottage was exactly what we were looking for!!! I've been coming to Stowe since I was 5 years old and wanted to introduce my new husband to my favorite place! LeeLee was a terrific host from our very first communications via email. The cabin was private, clean, cozy and exactly as it looked in the online pictures. The fireplace and the hottub definitely added to the already inviting atmosphere. We hope to come back again and again!

Great Family Getaway

Submitted: July 25, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
The property was beautiful as was the cabin. The beds were very comfortable and the cabin was nice and clean. Our teenage kids really enjoyed the hot tub. Our experience renting the this log cabin was very good, everything went real smooth and we had no problem with anything. We regret not being able to stay longer, maybe next time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We feel fortunate that Vermont has largely been spared the heat and drought that much of the country is experiencing this summer.

I have been looking for this for years and I finally found it. They should rename this cabin "heaven" as it is as close to paradise as possible. This is no exaggeration.

My wife and I plus my sister and our two Goldens stayed at Thornapple over the 4th of July weekend. Its a very quaint cottage in a perfect location. The road and surrounding scenery are truly picturesque. One big advantage of staying here is that the owners live close by - we had a bit of a mishap with the door bolt not working and we were so fortunate that they live nearby so they could help us get back in.
The cabin is right next to all that Stowe has to offer yet its secluded enough that you have your privacy. The hot tub is a wonderful bonus. We are thinking of coming back in the Winter!
