Just a 14 minute drive from the brink of Niagara Falls! Our 'hoblet' has the look of a woodsy cabin, but is spacious and modern. 600 sq. feet in total with a large studio living room, separate bedroom and a bathroom with a built in 2 seater far infrared sauna. Outside is viewed through 5 sets of double glass patio doors & 3 skylights.Your retreat includes breakfast, via a lightly stocked kitchen and all the ammenities. The green living roof is very special. Your 'yard' is a hardwood forest with a small stream running through. Beautifully landscaped out in the country yet only 15 minutes from the brink of the falls with emphasis on nature and good energy. On site and for your viewing is our equine rescue, home to 7 donkeys, 1 mule, 2 pot belly piggies, and 2 wonderful, friendly little goats, (2 dogs). I have over 8 years experience as a professional tour guide in Niagara Falls. And a proud recipient of the Ambassador of Tourism Award from the Canadian government. We share our 'space' with 2 dogs, and 7 equines, 2 pot belly pigs named Sheldon and Shpeck, and 2 little, sweet goats; Monty and George. We are passionate about animal welfare, and preserving nature. I speak conversational Spanish and German. Having lived and worked in seven countries, and having travelled extensively I believe my husband and I have come to understand what our national and international guest would appreciate and expect in their travels. We look forwarding to helping you see all the Niagara Peninsula has to offer, there is so much more than just the falls. (Plus our tricks of the trade can help you save money, time and aggravation).
Avoid the hustle of hotels and the commercialism. Its all there for you when YOU want it, a short country drive away. Enjoy the energy of the forest and nature and at the same time your patronage helps provide the care and welfare of the rescued animals on site (as well as any other rescue situations that come our way). Be a part of it 'all' in so many different aspects than the everyday traveler experiences now a days. We are unique!
For more photos, and a 'feel' for what we have created please ask about our website - truly a retreat, yet all the modern comforts and facilities, and so much more! Even the locals come for a visit.
Arriving at The Hoblet was exactly what we needed. We loved the feeling of having our own little space nestled in the woods. A little bridge and walkway with animals to greet us for our stay and early rise. Having an Infrared Sauna in the comfort of our own room was a special treat to say the least. The circle of stones surrounding a fire pit was an excellent way to wind down our night. This is a very beautiful place to relax, unwind, detox and be in nature. I would recommend a stay at The Hoblet to anyone interested in doing just that. Glad we found it and will be staying here again the next time we are in Niagara.
So, here's the deal. I decided to take my wife up to Niagra Falls for her birthday this year. We only live about six hours away so I thought we'd rent a car and enjoy the Spring transition as we moved through up-state New York. I booked The Hoblet because of it's location (just a few minutes outside of the city and miles ((or kilometers)) away from any discernible touristy stuff) and because the idea seemed neat. I had no idea how wonderful the place would be.
Everything, and I mean everything about this place feels like home. Petra is a warm soul who we couldn't help but feel instantly attached to. The animals are gorgeous and friendly (and surprisingly quiet). The house itself is an oasis. We spent quite a while in the sauna, but if that's not your thing, surely something in The Hoblet is.
Beyond the beauty of the location, our mini-vacation would have been a lot worse without the aide of Petra's sit-down upon arrival. After seven or so hours on the road, all my wife and I wanted was to relax, but Petra's enthusiasm and knowledge for the area rubbed off on us and, before long, we were out in the world experiencing everything she'd suggested.
The only, and I mean ONLY, problem with The Hoblet is that I can easily see how it might not be for everyone. If you're looking for a swanky, high-class, modern, centrally-located, plastic place to stay, this ain't it. But my gut tells me that, even if you're only kind of attracted to the place from afar (as we were), you'll soon fall completely in love. My wife and I decided as we drove away from The Hoblet a few days later that we would return once a year on our anniversary and catch up with Petra and crew. I sincerely hope we can make that happen. I honestly miss the place as if I had lived there for years.
Vineeta and I are travelers, having been to about 25 countries across the world and over 100 destination cities. We also do the regular weekend trips around Toronto which is where we hang our humble hats.
It was by happenstance while browsing the internet that we came across the Hoblet. We were instantly attracted by the good work that Petra and Mush were doing in rehabilitating less unfortunate animals. We read the reviews and looked at the pictures and decided to go for it.
The internet does not do justice to what your eyes see and you experience when you reach.
Nestled in the country, just about 90 odd minutes from Toronto, far from the maddening crowd yet close enough to Niagara regions attractions, it was a great choice. The welcome was warm, the weather was bright and the animals greeted us like long lost friends. In no time we were settled in, a hot cuppa was on the make and we took in the beautiful winter ambiance.
Adults and Kids alike would love the animals and enjoy feeding them some apples, carrots or pears.
As Niagara was only a 15 minute drive away, we did go down and do the usual tourist bit but we also enjoyed the country drive and a short visit to the town of Port Colbourne. Petra is very familiar with the attractions around so was very helpful in guiding us to some nice places to see.
All in all, a great weekend, topped off by our team winning the Super Bowl.
This was our white winter experience and now we look forward to a visit when the green will welcome us.
Thanks Petra, Mush and the critters.

Fourteen months ago we booked 'The Hoblet' after finding it on VRBO and falling in love with the concept through the photos and description. As the months passed we found our excitement building in anticipation of our week in Canada and often wondered if our anticipation would be met with disappointment or satisfaction. As soon as we arrived and saw the setting which was exactly as had been described and depicted in the photos and then were met by Petra we knew there was no disappointment in our future - only over-the-top satisfaction as we experienced all 'The Hoblet' and Niagara had to offer. Petra and Mush were the ultimate hosts and provided much needed information about the area. We ventured out each day to take in the sights and sounds and tastes of the region but our favorite part of the day was 'coming home' to 'The Hoblet'. The tranquil setting was just perfect and we loved to sit out on the patio and just relax. The donkeys and mules and goats and pot bellied pigs were all so much fun and we were amazed that we never got a whiff of any of them even when sitting right by them at the fire pit! Amazing! The pot bellied pigs kept us laughing the whole week we were there - too funny. As far as activites in the area the list could go on and on but we loved Niagara Glen for the hiking, the Butterfly Conservatory and gardens for the up close encounters with the butterflies and the beautiful flowers, Horse Shoe Falls has to be seen to be believed, the walk down Niagara Gorge (on the American side) was amazing and the sheer number of wineries in the area made for some wonderful road trips each day. If you go to Niagara on the Lake don't miss the little Irish cafe behind the Irish linen shop as it was very good - try the scone with fresh strawberries! Keiths in Fonthill was another not to miss eatery as much for the food as for the friendly waitresses! And if you are in Niagara on a Friday night don't miss the fish fry at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Niagara - great fish and fun people.
So after fourteen months of waiting and anticipating our Niagara vacation more than lived up to our anticipation and we would do it again tomorrow if we could. All thanks to 'The Hoblet', Petra , Mush and 'The Gang' - oh, and Niagara Falls too!
To celebrate my husband's birthday we spent three special nights in September at "The Hoblet". When we arrived Petra greeted us with a very warm welcome and many helpful tips for visiting local attractions which are all within easy driving distance including The Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Welland Canal, Crystal Beach and much, much more. We enjoyed seeing the sites but, for us, the highlight was kicking back and enjoying the incredible tranquility and healing energy of this wonderful sanctuary. It was so special to get up early in the morning and enjoy eating breakfast outside in the fresh air surrounded by beautiful woodlands and all the amazing animals. George and Monty, the goats, provided constant entertainment!
The cabin itself, with its living roof, bark covered walls, skylights and large glass sliding doors, seems to be a living, growing part of nature. Everywhere outside there are unique accents and features such as archways, bridges, a pond, toadstool carvings, etc. which makes every view attractive and interesting.
Best of all, Hoblet owners, Petra and Mush, allow their guests an opportunity to enjoy, feed, observe and commune with the amazing family of rescue animals they have opened their hearts and home to.
We will definitely be recommending "The Hoblet" to friends and family!
We came from the UK to this lovely well kept accommodation with the nicest people running it and animals that are exceptionally loved and cared for. The Hoblet is a once in a lifetime find which is close to everything including the falls and Niagara on the lake. Petra is a mind of information on the local area and is very welcoming. We all loved the animals and being able to spend time with them feeding and grooming. I even saw three deer just walking around the back of the Hoblet early one morning. A real nice place to stay which was home from home and nice to come back to every evening. I would recommend the hoblet to all and I felt extremely sad leaving there. Would love to come back again!
Thank you Petra and Mush for a thoroughly fantastic holiday and one we will not forget ever!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our three nights at "The Hoblet" my wife describes it as a magical place! Petra was like having our travel agent next door, she gave great advice and made our trip to the falls fantastic.
As we resque donkeys (and 'anyone' else in need, our latest arrival is Sheldon the pot belly pig) we find our guests enjoy the spirit of the animals. Included in a 2 (or more) night stay is a 'meet & greet' with the animals. One on one time and supervised by ourselves to introduce you to the animals that have found a home here. Groom them, hear their stories, and learn what is involved in taking in an animal. Many of our guests have commented on learning information about certain animals that has effected their decision on which animal would fit in their situation and which would not. Great photo time as well. This feature is totally optional. Some our guests barely have time to see all the sights in the area. When you check it just let us know if you would like to schedule a 'meet & greet'..
Also your hostess, Petra, is a certified hatha yoga instructor, if you wish to do a private class while here call for details, a 90 minute private one on one class for your party is $30.00 (Cad)
