Home is surrounded by tropical paradise, with maximum privacy, and has fantastic panoramic views of the mountains and valley below. Located near the small town of Atenas which is only 25 minutes away from the Juan Santamaria airport in San Jose and near new highway to beaches and San Jose. Thousands of lights across the valley come to light at night time. It is located inside a protected forestall reserve with luxurious vegetation, precious trees - like the Guanacaste (the national tree) and other flowering trees, offering a powerful mixture of colors. Wildlife is plentiful with a large variety of hummingbirds that feed daily on the flowers and Toucans.
The house has been constructed with extensive use of giant bamboo (guadua), and it is divided into two separate structures near each other. The main structure has the large master bedroom on the 2nd floor, with the living/dining rooms, modern kitchen with all appliances on the main floor. Has large private den/ tv area
Within this main house there is a separate den/study room on a lower level that provides an additional relaxing area to enjoy.
The 2nd structure contains two separate bedrooms each with a private bath, and with a separate kitchenette. The main structure has a large wrap-around porch to provide separate areas with hammocks and rustic furniture for your enjoyment. This is a great area for use of the gas grill and to enjoy some meals outdoors. The lush garden area will add to your enjoyment. You can relax in our large pool with ambient temperature that is located between the two structures.
You will enjoy visiting the town of Atenas that is known for its friendly and helpful people. Visit the outdoor market that offers delicious local fruits, vegetables, and seafood or dine in one of the various cafes to taste the local food specialties.

This is a wonderful retreat where you can relax and enjoy your family and friends. The house is a beautiful, well-cared for home with a gorgeous tropical garden. The birding was fabulous!! The village of Atenas is centrally located which made driving and site-seeing easy and fun.
After a pain-less flight from Fort Lauderdale into San Jose Airport we had arranged a private shuttle from Andrew and he had his man Oscar pick us up at the airport and drive us in his van about 35 mins to the property. Andrew was there to walk us thru the ins and outs of the house and property. The house is beautiful and sits upon a cliff overlooking the hills and valley below. The property is within a gated community and also has gate around the house itself. The main-house had a nice kitchen that had everything you need and the water was perfect to drink right from the fridge! There is only 1-Bedroom in the main-house it is a huge master room with a huge bathroom on the second floor. There is a casita on the other side of the pool with two private rooms and their own bathroom and shower. Both houses are very comfortable! The pool is heated by solar and was nice and refreshing to have there. The town is only 5 miles away and we used the Coopsupermarket across from Andrews office for all of our grocery's. The town is safe and the people are friendly. We did rent a 4x4 SUV for our travels to Jaco Beach Town and also to Arenal Volcano in which we spent the afternoon at Baldi Hot Springs Resort (if i were to visit arenal again I would have hired Oscar to drive us it was a very hair raising drive as the roads are not decent) In closing the property is in a great location very quiet and relaxing! There is a TV room down the steps which was nice to have also as we were traveling with children. The owner has a great home in Costa Rica and Andrew in my opinion is an asset that should not be overlooked. He was able to get us Pizza and ice delivered on our first night as we were waiting for the other couple to show with the rental car and he is there to help with any questions with the area, house, travel plans, pretty much anything! I would not hesitate to stay here again as the owner and Andrew have a geat thing going in Costa Rica! Thanks to all!
We first heard of Costa Rica as a holiday destination from friends who had visited there. So, my wife
and I read the client reviews for a stay at Christian and Diane's gorgeous villa in Atenas. Nothing that
was written compared to what we found to be the most beautiful, restful, spot on Earth ! From sun-up
to sun-down we marvelled at the never ending enjoyment that this paradise offers. From the wide
vistas to the minutiae of plant and bird life, every day was an eye-opener ! Perfect temperatures, no
bugs, beautifully furnished and equipped; this spot will be remembered for a lifetime. We shall return!
Many thanks to Andrew, property manager and Oscar, driver and guide. You made our days !
It's a real joy to be able to say that the property was all that it was promised to be, as per the web site description and photos.
In addition the level of personal service provided by Andrew at the agents, Oskar the tour driver and Chino the taxi driver was excellent.
The climate was perfect for our vacation which was a combination of 'taking it easy with a book on the hammock' or aerial journeys through the tropical forest and zip-wire rides.
We also thoroughly enjoyed our trips into Atenas and other small towns. The restaurant food was varied in style but always good. Our non-existent spoken Spanish did not prove to be an obstacle as the ever-friendly staff always managed to understand what we wanted, and were even able to explain the menu.
The wild-life, whether in the zoo or the countryside or the garden, was a constant source of pleasure. We awoke to the dawn chorus and the sun streaming through the windows each morning.
The local people all seemed friendly and we had a special evening at a local hostelry with a bunch of the neighbors from Pica Flora.
Yes, we would go there again. And yes, we would and have recommended Casa Blais to our friends.
There is not much to say that has not been said by the others who have reviewed this property. It was beautiful and peaceful, the weather was wonderful and the location is central; good spot for day trips. We completely enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it.
Just returned from 24 days in Paradise !
It was our first time in Costa Rica and it is a very special place. My wife and I thought the great pictures in the rental listing do the Bamboo House credit, although our 24 & 25 year olds thought it was actually better in person. It is a beautiful place. The one thing we all agreed on was the spectacular views, at sunrise, during the day, and especially at night could never be equalled in a photo, but we sure tried. My binoculars.... a Definite Must for all the great views from the property, for seeing all the colourful birds.
The one concern before we went was not being on or close to the beach. What we found on our enjoyable 1 hour drive day trips to the coast that although the temperature was the same there, low 90's, the very high humidity down by the coast was oppressive. The low humidity at the house made the days perfect, and of course the private pool helped! At night the temperature drops down to a very comfortable level for sitting on the deck at night watching all the lights far away and sleeping with the windows open. Atenas truly has the best climate in the world!
The house and the 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom separate building were great and had all you need.
It is a very nice walk down to Atenas, especially Friday morning when the open air Market is on. You will definitely have to take the $3 taxi back up home with all the bags you will have. The fruits and vegetables are great; a must go. Many days we would walk to town for groceries (nice supermarket across from Andrew's office) or to the restaurants; La Trocha is the best, or just for an ice cream. Walking around Atenas day or night you feel completely safe.
Andrew Partain could not have been more helpful or pleasant to deal with. Nothing was ever too much trouble. He set it up that Oscar picked us up at the airport and he took us whenever we wanted to go out on day trips. Also Oscar was very helpful in planning those trips. Andrew also set us up with Chino, a local taxi driver who spoke English and was also a great local resource.
Well the big question when you read this is "but would they go back?". We have already booked the month of February 2014.
Thank you all
Jane, Mark, Evan, & Rebecca
My Hubby and I, as well as four of our friends, stayed in the Casa Blais, Pica Flora, Atenas, for seven days in February, 2012. This was a lush, restful an exciting stay. We enjoyed our time and we would strongly recommend the Casa Blais to others. First of all, the description was accurate regarding the location and photos reflect the rental’s appearance and amenities. The property is top-notch, and well-maintained, a true tropical paradise and the owners (Christian and Dianne) really go the extra mile to make the stay comfortable and relaxing: from offering a trusted driver pick up at the airport (an excellent driver and fluid in English local Tico – Oscar), to recommending nearby activities, attractions and restaurants, which are conveniently located, and easily accessible, even without a car. The stay was thoroughly enjoyable, including the stunning views, and the refreshing swimming pool and organized trips (with Oscar) to a nearby volcano and beautiful Manuel Antonio National Park. Also, we were invited to a local Pica Flora owners party, trying local homemade food and meeting lovely people, made our holiday special. The climate is perfect (no AC needed), the property's flowers are blooming, the scenery is too beautiful for words. We enjoy morning choir of birds, seeing tucans right there, on the property, majestic iguana on the main house roof, cicadas in the afternoon, stunning sunsets, not to forget the small geckos in our bedroom ( do not be afraid, because in the room geckos=no bugs). Thank you - Christian and Dianne - for extending such stupendous welcome; taking care of every detail and making our Costa Rica trip the most relaxing in years and full of attractions. We are looking forward to visit this true paradise again.
Atenas is more strategically located to enjoy all the things people like to do. There are many exciting places to visit on relatively short trips to the beaches, volcanoes, tropical gardens, zoo, or just having fun exploring.
