Photos and Description of the Seattle vacation apartment rental
Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

This apartment is perfect for vacation or business travelers. It has two bedrooms, two baths, a nice living room and a fully functional kitchen. It can sleep up to six. There is a king bed in the master, a queen bed in the 2nd bedroom and a queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room.

St John’s was built in 1910. We find that people who love old houses really admire this place. It is a charming old building with hardwood floors and fancy period woodwork. There are twenty five apartments in the building on two floors, above retail businesses along Pike Street. #309 is on the top floor and has a great view down onto the street from both the living room and the master bedroom.

We've made it feel like home. The living room has a seven foot super comfortable couch, two stuffed chairs and a 37-inch LCD TV with DVD player. The apartment has wireless high speed Internet. It's a great place to visit and relax!

The second bedroom is in the middle of the apartment. It's window looks into a light well instead of down on the street. This makes that room the most quiet in the building. A couple of our guests have said that it was stuffy so we have a window fan there to take care of that.

The master bedroom is large and very comfortable. It has a great bed--a California King. The photos show the master with the old tube TV. We've switched that out now with a new Samsung 40' LED TV. And all TV's have Dish Network with hundreds of channels and HBO.

It's a great location but a busy neighborhood. That means that there's some street noise. There's lots of traffic out there, and at night there are lots of people around. We're really not in the center of Capitol Hill's super busy area, we're about 3 blocks away. But you'll hear people on the street sometime, talking and laughing, as they walk toward the amazing area. Capitol Hill has become Seattle's most fun, lively and growing area. Three blocks from us there are several blocks that are just filled with restaurants and bars. There's probably 40 of them within a 6 block radius. On weekend nights it's an amazing scene. There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of people on the streets. Even if you don't want to go in to any of the bars it is worth it just to come a watch.

One negative about Seattle: we have homeless people here. All big cities have homeless. It's very sad. Our last count (an annual event) we have about 3000 people living on the streets. Seattle has some very good and progressive programs in place to reduce homelessness, but right now there are lots of those people with no place to go. You will see them. Occasionally they will be outside the door to the supermarket, asking for change. We ignore them. Some people choose to give them money. We feel that it's best to give to organizations that use the money wisely. But of course that's your choice. We just want our guests to know that it's a busy neighborhood, filled with people, some very rich and some very poor. People who bring small children to Seattle from small towns without poverty may want to talk about this issue before you come.

About Oda Egeland

We have six short terms, and it is difficult to write six different descriptions of the owners, Mark and Oda. I assume you'll see our other listings, perhaps read the descriptions there, and you'll know lots about us. We have St. John's as an investment, but we're not big real estate investors, it's our only building. We've had a very good experience with it--the location is excellent and the people we've met here are wonderful. There's nothing not to be liked! It's a great neighborhood, vibrant, filled with things to do and places to go. It's much better than downtown Seattle, which closes up shop in the evening and has an empty, big tall buildings feel. Our area comes alive at night, filled with restaurants, bars and boutiques. It's like being in New York City or maybe Paris, except it's Seattle. Everybody's friendly here. That's why we bought the place, and that's why we love it!

Why Oda Egeland chose Seattle

RESTAURANTS: If you're new to the area you will be surprised by how many great restaurants there are within a few short blocks of St. John's. We have three in the building: The Other Coast Cafe features East Coast Style Sandwiches, St. John's Bar and Eatery is an American/bistro, and Ayutthaya is a Thai restaurant. All of these are great places! On our block there is yet another fun place for lunch-a sandwich shop called The Honey Hole. Heading toward Broadway, there is a Subway and the QFC Grocery Store. Once you get to Broadway there are restaurants in every direction, several to choose from, on every block. Without trying hard we could name 25 great eateries, all within a short walk. It's a diner's delight!

St. John's is located about 8 blocks from the Washington State Convention Center, on the same street. It's an easy walk. After you pass by the Center you're in the downtown shopping district with Nordstrom's, Macy's and all the big name stores. If you keep going you end at the Pike Place Market, one of Seattle's big tourist draws. (For a good reason, it's a fun place!) The entire walk from us to the market is 16 blocks.

Other Activities: We're in the middle of a very lively neighborhood. Exploring it will give you hours of fun. Across the street is a large grocery store, a drug store, dry cleaners and a UPS shipping facility. There are many small stores, restaurants and night spots in the neighborhood.

Spring Break w/Grandson

We've been to Seattle a few times before but never stayed in the Capital Hill area. We did enjoy Seattle this time and visited lots of places and tried lots of new restaurants. However, there was a lot of street noise every night and we were glad we brought our earplugs. Also many homeless/street people in the area; our grandson did not feel safe enough to do his daily run for exercise. We did feel safe in the apartment though and went to the QFC daily. Johnny got us a nice new black coffee maker...Thank You. The middle bedroom had a window but no air from the outside, so it was a little 'stuffy' during our stay; we had very nice warm weather for the week.

What can we say that we haven't said before? Warm, inviting abode, management, owner and accommodations; comfortable beds, clean, convenient, comfy and you can't go wrong by choosing this property. If there's something you need, they'll either provide it or tell you where to get it.

An easy one mile walk to Pike Market, don't miss the bacon and maple mini donuts at the "Daily Dozen Donuts there, Tulio Ristorante at 1100 Fifth Ave (breakfast, lunch or dinner), Chihuly's Glass Garden at Seattle Center, Nordstrom's, Von's or a nice walk to Lake Union.

There's a little road/area noise, but turn on the a/c and white sound machine and all's well in Seattle. Would move here if the closets were bigger:) Can't wait until our next visit! Teri and Steve from Asheville

This place was so awesome! Nice beds and bedrooms. Clean and modern while maintaining its original charm. It is in the middle of EVERYTHING!! Grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc, are just out the door. Downtown is only a 5 minute walk and Pike Place Market is a 8-10 minute walk. Nice neighborhood. Parking is right behind the building. Will do this again. Johnny takes care of everything there.

Yes yes yes! Today is my wife "Daisy's" birthday! We planned this trip for her and had a great time. The post left on the previous page is from Mirna, one of the four who came here to us. I will say that Johnny was so cool to let us check in a bit early. The place was immaculate! He hit all the tourist spots and found out that this location was so close to everything. We will come back again! Thx for all!

Before we left San Francisco on Saturdauy, the weather report for Seattle said"chance of snow". Never did we think that we would have been snowed in. Nevertheless, we had a great time. Our walk in the show was adventurous. WE enjoyed our stay at St. John's Apt. It's comfortable, clean and close to shops and restaurants. We look forward to visiting Seattle again and staying at St. John's again, only next time we'll pick summertime!
