Guestbook comments from the owner
We had such a great time, it was an adventure beginning with the boat ride over - the captian of island girl was great and circled around the dolphins for us... Lois met us to escort us to the blue door villa... The kids reaction when we walked into the front door was priceless and I think you would have enjoyed hearing it, they all were yelling WOW! There were so many things to love, the artistic flare, the architechture, the blue door (i loved) the orange chairs, the zen stone garden, the view from the top of the stairs to the bottom of the stairs, the soft linens and pillows, the roof top view, the stone showers, and all the splashes of color throughout your home!

We saw manatee, dolphins, sand sharks, turtles and snakes (yuk), the sun was shining from morning to dusk every day was a perfect 80 degrees, the ocean was a perfect aqua blue, the sunsets were breathtaking, and the stars never ever seemed so close... I felt like I was on another planet... so good to get away from civilization for a moment!

We cooked great food and had lots of laughs... We had a pirate/treasure hunt and all the kids dressed up like pirates - even the adults and we put pirate flags on the golf carts and we led the kids through a maze of hunting for clues leading to an awesome treasure buried in the sand at the beach... I think they will remember this trip forever! We found so many interesting things about the island, pieces of ships buried in the sand, tons of driftwood that formed beautiful pieces for photography, coves of shallow water behind the rocks and so many things that were interesting along our beach walks.

It was a home away from home... I hope to go back again very soon!

I am an English Physical Therapist and my American husband is a Strength and Conditioning Coach. We live in New York City. We got married on North Captiva in 2011. We love to escape the fast pace and noise of the city to the peace, beauty and nature of North Captiva. There are no cars, it is quiet, with beautiful sandy beaches, amazing sunsets, great fishing, wonderful long walks, fabulous swimming in the Gulf, and lots of interesting wildlife which we love to photograph. This is where we come to relax, unwind, and re-energise. Owning this house is a dream come true - an unspoiled, back to nature island.

Annie Gow purchased this house in 2009

We first visited North Captiva in 2007 as we had friends living on the island. We fell in love with the island and then had the opportunity to actually purchase a home here - the minute we get on the ferry we leave all our stresses behind. We LOVE IT!!

Our home is a very 'modern - one of a kind' beach house, which is exquisitely decorated with high end furniture, a well equipped kitchen (I love to cook so there is everything that one would need), beautiful bed linens and above all CLEAN!! The bath in the master bathroom is a great place to relax with a bubble bath and a glass of wine - sheer decadence!! Outside, the garden is well maintained and we often have dinner outside or just watch the world go by in our beautiful signature orange chairs. We love the views, the sunsets, and sunrises from the roof - which can be great for cocktail hour or the early morning cup of tea or coffee. The ability to do absolutely 'NOTHING' and not worry about it is a wonderful feeling!! Boat trips to nearby islands and dolphin watching is fun, as is fishing from the beach and shelling - have found fabulous shells and sand dollars. There are lots of photo opportunities of wildlife, sunsets and nature, and we absolutely love just BEING!! Just a minutes walk to the beautiful beach - and it is even more amazing at sunrise and sunset. Once you have experienced North Captiva you will never want to leave!!

PERFECT HOME ON A PERFECT ISLAND

  • 5 of 5
The island is Magical and we loved our stay at the Blue Door Villa.
So peaceful and Annie and David have made this a home rather than a rental.
Lots of thought taken into account on the well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and luxury linens.
Always a hook to hang a towel or clothes and that wonderful soft rug in the master bathroom is so yummy in the morning when you are brushing your teeth.
I loved the 15oz red tea/coffee mugs ,certainly got my caffeine fix in the morning.
Enjoy the island especially the sunsets, wildlife, walking on castaway beaches and the Blue Door Villa will add to the wonderful experience

BEAUTY AT THE BEACH!

  • 5 of 5
We were very pleased with our stay at Blue Door Villa. It is a one of a kind house! There was more than enough room for our family of 5 to spread out. The views from the rooftop deck were beautiful. Annie was pleasant to deal with when booking, and answered all of our questions. We would definitely stay here again.

BLUE DOOR VILLA

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at Blue Door Villa with our four kids, including three teen daughters and our 8 Yr old son. The Villa was beautiful and very spacious and bright. We appreciated the open floor plan in the living area, so we could all be together even if we were all doing our own thing. The kitchen was very conveniently set up and well stocked with cooking utensils, pots and pans etc. The bedrooms were roomy and the mattresses were very comfortable. Four full size bathrooms was a nice plus for our group. The upper deck was my favorite spot to enjoy the sun, do some yoga and of course view the sunsets! We were pleasantly surprised that there was a yoga mat there, as we couldn't fit ours into our luggage. We were able to rent Annie's extra golf cart which was really convenient for us, her carts are definitely some of the nicer carts on the island! We are an active family and took advantage of every outdoor activity there was available. We kayaked, stand up paddle boarded, biked, swam, snorkeled, beach hiked, fished, shelled, explored on the carts, rented a boat and sat at the beach and pool. The Villa was centrally located to all of this and made a perfect landing spot when we were in between activities. The beach was a one minute cart ride or a short walk, it was clean and spacious. We saw dolphins and rays on a daily basis.

Annie was really kind and helpful with providing information on taxi and grocery services, as well as answered my preplanning questions . I was a little intimidated by having to preorder and pick up all our groceries for 12 days, but everything was perfectly orchestrated and went off without a hitch! Deb at Barnacles was kind enough to let us use their kayaks and paddle boards. She and her staff were attentive if we had questions or needed help with something.

We ate at all four restaurants on the island. We had good food at all four, however, our favorite by far was the Boathouse. The chef treated us to his culinary talents and never disappointed.

Overall we were very happy with our visit to North Captiva and felt like we were staying in one of the nicest villas on the island, it was definitely the coolest one!

Thank you Annie, we hope to visit again!

SLICE OF PARADISE

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 5 loved this place. It is an amazing little slice of paradise. From top to bottom, this home is stylish, clean, and nestled among an untouched natural setting. We loved that there were no cars. Things here were quiet and made it a great escape from our normally busy lives. Every day we swam, shelled, fished, explored, and then came back to make a fun dinner in the open, sun filled kitchen. The pool at the club made for a nice change of pace if we needed a break from sand. In the evening, it was very fun to go on the roof and look at stars. This place is indeed luxurious! Make sure you plan your meals well. We had no trouble loading up at the Publix before our ferry ride, but it takes some thought ahead of time. People aren't kidding when they say that you can't buy much on the island....which was totally fine with us, just plan accordingly. It is also true that you need very little clothing. We spent most of times in flip flops and our suits. The home has two laundrys that make it easy for keeping things clean. But most of the clothes we packed never were worn! If you are looking for island life and a posh escape, this will not dissapoint. Our kids are ages 10, 8, and 5.

SPECIAL HOME ON SPECIAL ISLAND

  • 5 of 5
This house is absolutely spectacular! The other reviews are spot on. It is very well appointed and tastefully done. The kitchen has everything you need for preparing and enjoying home-cooked meals. (if you don't feel like cooking, there are a few options of places to go eat) We used the outdoor Weber grill every night. Just make sure you have charcoal on your grocery list!

Some interesting features of the house are there are 2 sets of washers and dryers in the house which is nice when you have a lot of people staying there. I used the outdoor shower every day! Beach towels, umbrellas, etc., are also part of the rental, which is nice. The rooftop terrace is a great place to have cocktails and watch the sun set over the Gulf. Besides the kitchen fridge, there are 2 other smaller ones in the house so there's plenty of space to cool beverages of choice. There is also an elevator on the ground floor that is great for loading all of the groceries and bags to the upstairs kitchen and bedrooms. The beach is a quick 3 minute walk.

Annie, the owner, is a pleasure to work with and Vicky, her assistant on the island, was most helpful in picking us up from the boat and getting us settled in the house.

I would highly recommend Blue Door Villa to anyone who is wanting a vacation on North Captiva Island!

DREAM ISLAND, DREAM HOME.....

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Blue Door Villa on North Captiva Island truly felt like it was a dream. We absolutely fell in love with the island and the home and now hope to make it an annual vacation.

Our family of 8 vacationed there over the holidays, we had never rented a home like this before, so when we started searching for options we were a little nervous. The very first correspondance with Annie (the homeowner) quickly put all our worries to rest. She followed-up, answered questions, and gave us detailed information about getting to the island.

As far as the home goes, it's just as gorgeous as the pictures, and one of the most unique homes on the island. The views from the rooftop patio were spectacular and we enjoyed them every night. Our family of 8 (6 adults and 2 kids) had more than enough room. Annie has thought of everything in her home, she even has beach chairs and sand toys in the garage ready to hit the beach.

The island itself allows you to completely unplug. No roads, no streetlights, just sand, sun and the sound of the surf. We were lucky enough to be there for Christmas, and for all of us, it might be one of our favorites.

We made gingerbread "chickees" at Barnacle Phil's with Chef Mary, had Christmas carolers stop by the Blue Door Villa on Christmas Eve and the biggest surprise of all, Santa and Mrs. Claus showed up in their golf cart covered in Christmas lights and tinsel and they even had gifts for the kids. They were on a pit stop and the sleigh and reindeer were on the air-strip taking a break. ;)

Overall, if you are looking to unwind, reconnect and slow down, stay at the Blue Door Villa on North Captiva Island, you will love it. We fell in love with this dream home on a dream island and we hope to be back very soon....
