A beach apartment with a great ocean view from the front balcony. This 2nd story 2 B and 2 Bath unit is a nice, tranquil, breezy apartment on a quiet little street in a gated neighborhood. It is within steps of the western end of the Isla Verde Beach and a sheltered cove. Also walking distance to wide, sandy beaches, shops, restaurants and a supermarket. The apartment is fully equipped and furnished. It has two bedrooms, including a large Master bedroom with a king size bed, large bathroom and walk-in closet. Room A/C units in both bedrooms, but no central air conditioning. The apartment is great for just opening up the double doors in the living room and enjoying the ocean breeze and view. Other amenities include cable TV, DVD/CD player, WiFi internet, and washer/dryer. It is a non-smoking apartment. Relax on the balcony or in the living room enjoying the beautiful ocean views or sit in the shady patio garden. Only a 15 minute drive to the airport and Old San Juan.
Sheltered Cove. : This sheltered cove is an excellent place for small children to play in the sand and shallow, calm waters. It is a short walk from the apartment. To get further down the beach where there are wider, sandy stretches, remember to bring good beach shoes to comfortably walk over some rocks along the way. (If you would like a bigger 3 bedroom/ 2 bath apt. see our property # 938186).
A great location for food lovers. Within a short walk of the apartment you have a wide variety of eating options. There are some fast food places (Pollo Tropical and Subway), excellent bakeries (Das Pastelhous, Panaderia Espana), great local food, including 'mofongo' (Casa Dante, Rest. El Estribo), a 24 hour diner selling local and standard dishes (Levi's), pizzerias, a food truck that sells delicious steak sandwiches (El Churry), a restaurant specializing in local, organic foods (The Garden) and other fine international restaurants including Argentinian steak houses, Japanese, Peruvian ceviche, Italian and Chinese. And if you feel like cooking your own meal, a 24 hour supermarket is just down the road.
A Real Treat for Coconut Lovers: There is a coconut vender at the entry to our street. Try one of his fresh 'coco frios' for an excellent, refreshing drink. Once you are done drinking out of the shell, he'll cut open the coconut and you can enjoy the sweet coconut inside.
Local water sports: For the more adventurous, there are a few water sports shops within walking distance of the apartment. They offer scuba and snorkeling equipment and trips, wind surfing, kite sailing and paddle boarding.
A couple of the shops (Velauno and Beach Cats) offer lessons or they can get you in touch with instructors.
Check out time is 10 am. . Check in Time is 3pm.
I stayed in the apartment for a relaxing get away with family and I have to say it exceeded my expectations. Everything is exactly as described, the photos don't do the apartment justice. Below are my comments on what made the stay so exceptional.
The location is perfect. It's in a more residential end of isla verde but a short walk from the more commercial end.
John was so accommodating. He was very thoughtful about making sure the apartment was equipped with every convenience of home... sunblock, beach chairs, towels, condiments, he even had a play pin for my toddler when we arrived! I didn't find myself reaching for anything that wasn't there.
John was very helpful in helping us discover some hidden gems that we probably would not have explored our own. Restaurants, attractions, etc.
I would absolutely recommend this apartment if you are looking for a more local experience. I would stay here again on my next trip to San Juan.
We stayed at John's apartment in mid December, 2014; had a wonderful time. At night the Coqui (tree frogs) sang outside of our rooms. Not quite the jungle atmosphere but it's nice to hear the sounds of nature. Adding to the chorus is the sounds of ocean flapping the sea wall. Beautiful!. Be warned though, the sounds can be so loud that they may wake you up in the middle of the night. Regardless it's a very unique experience.
One day of our stay it rained. The rain forest when it rains it pours. It rained so hard we couldn't go outside. John offered to take us to the mall and we took the offer. The mall is very typical American shopping mall, but it beats being cooped up inside a small apartment in the rain. That's a nice touch on top of John's attentive to our needs, and tips to the surrounding areas. We got to taste the young coconuts harvested from his trees, freed. A Caribbean experience. Thanks John.
I loved the apartment, it was clean and spacious enough for a girls trip and getaway. John and his family were very informative and helpful during our stay. The ocean view can be enjoyed from the living room to the master bedroom. What I enjoyed most was listening to the water hitting the shore and enjoying the cool breeze blowing into my window from the beach while I was sleeping, best sleep I've had in years. I'd recommend this place to anyone, it is a central location and it is convenient, we did not rent a vehicle at all, we explored old san juan via bus and candado/new san juan via taxi. The beach and great restaurants are merely steps away from the property. I look forward to staying at this property once more on my future puerto rico getaways.
This property was absolutely a great choice! It was chosen for a girls trip/getaway mainly due to the beachfront and warmer weather during this time of year. John was so flexible and accomodating to our needs and questions at any time. He was always prompt and addressed any issues quickly (very minor). I loved the sound of waves constantly and the ocean breeze was perfect enough not to need air, but the fan was handy for any excess humidity. The master bedroom is very roomy and the closet spacing for both bedrooms was more than spacious (especially considering women). Having supplies like tissue, towels, kitchen utensils, beach towels, internet, cable, washer/dryer were all major bonuses that hotels just can't quite compare to. I loved having Lola greet us on the porch! We loved that the beach, restaurants, club, and 24 hr supermarket were all in walking distance. Most cab rides to further away places were around $15-$20. The place was well kept and I can't wait to come back! Thanks so much John!
I stayed at this apartment with 2 other adults for a week in April 2012 and we had a fantastic time! John and his family were very nice and helpful as well! The apartment was very clean when we arrived and had plenty of towels and cooking supplies stocked up for us to use during our stay. We felt perfectly safe and comfortable staying there - the area across from the apartment is just an overgrown construction site, it was actually cool to go walk around and find lizards in the bushes.
The apartment was next to a small beach which was great because most days we just packed a bag and cooler and headed over to the beach. There was a great spot for swimming there - a cove area that was protected from large waves/currents but still deep enough to swim. Just make sure to wear shoes when heading to that beach because there are some rocks to walk over.
The location was very convenient - within walking distance to restaurants/bars, a grocery store, and the bus stop. We were able to navigate around the city easily from the apartment and rented a car for only 3 days during the week's stay. Old San Juan was just a short bus trip away, too. The kitchen was well stocked which was great because we did cook some of our own meals.
John was a wealth of information, too - he recommended great restaurants and a very nice beach only 20 minutes away (driving). This apartment is definitely a value - ocean views and ocean breeze and a large 2 bedroom place to stay, to us this was much better than staying in a hotel. We were very pleased with our experience and have told friends and family to stay there if they visit Puerto Rico!
**Just a note - make sure to visit El Yunque Rainforest if you have the time and rent a car! It was beautiful and we enjoyed a whole day hiking and swimming in a waterfall. Old San Juan was beautiful as well, visit the forts if you like history - and lots of great food!
I LOVE IT ! wasnt far from the stores resturant & ice cream! i would give this place a 20 stars . the owners were very friendly. i love sleeping to the sounds of the oceans & now i cant sleep wit out them i felt jus at home . visted alot of places & had our own beach & enjoyed the time wit the fisher mans & the neighbors were very nice thanks john for the stay it was awsome !
Excellent location on a small, quiet access controlled neighborhood, right across the street from the ocean and the western end of the Isla Verde Beach. A short walk to all types of restaurants, from fine dining to fast food, clubs and a 24 hour supermarket. Wind surfing rental shops nearby. Relax on the nearby beaches by day and walk to great restaurants or clubs at night. Only a 10 minute drive to the airport or to Old San Juan and easy access to the expressway to explore the entire island of enchantment.
Other Activities: During June and July, considering putting your child in the local Windsurfing camp. Go to www.velauno.com for more info.
