I am originally from Michigan. I moved to Colorado 25 years ago to enjoy the mountains and the beauty of Colorado. I consider Ironhorse Resort my great escape to relax and recharge. Some of my favorite past times is skiing/snowmobiling in the winter and ATVing, mountain biking and fishing in the summer. I currently reside in Denver Colorado
Jennifer Herberg purchased this chalet in 2004
I chose Winter Park because it is the last 'Frontier' in Colorado and only 1 hour and 15 minutes from Denver-making this the most convenient location to enjoy the mountains and solitude. Winter Park is not built up like most of the resorts in Colorado and everyone is very friendly. The base of Winter Park also known as the 'Village' is where you can shop, dine, ice skate for the kids and people watch. You can take the shuttle transportation, gondola or walk.
The unique benefits of this condo is being on the top floor/corner unit. It looks out onto the Vazquez Trail This is the main trail that connects Mary Jane to the base of Winter Park. You do not see anything but the trail and the Pines. Truly tranquil.
This was our third stay at the Iron Horse, second time renting this one bedroom condo and Jen's place was even nicer and better equipped than we remembered! Being able to ski in/ski out added to our wonderful ski vacation and the condo location makes that very easy. Having access to the hot tub/pool is a super bonus. Jen is extremely helpful and considerate, communicating with her is a pleasure. The condo has everything you need to be comfortable, relax and enjoy. The kitchen is especially well stocked and made meal preparation very easy. Skiing at Winter Park couldn't have been more fun and the Iron Horse staff was courteous. We highly recommend this property for a vacation to anyone and look forward to renting again. Many thanks Jen!! :)
I really enjoyed the condo. It was very convenient to the slopes and the ski rental shop. The workout facility, pool and hot tubs are all very nice. The kitchen was stocked very well and had everything needed to cook meals.
Jen was great to work with and I will definitely try and return.
5 days in this wonderful condo was not enough! What a prime location to spend all day on the slopes of Winter Park.
The ease of access to the Winter Park slopes was undeniable. You can easily swing past the condo to grab some lunch or change gear and get back out on the slopes quickly.
We also appreciated the stocked kitchen and made all of our meals at the condo.
The Iron Horse staff was very helpful and the pool and hot tubs were the perfect way to end the days! The hot tubs had plenty of room and never seemed overly crowded.
We slept very comfortably in the beds and really did not feel like we were missing anything at the condo. Jen has done a great job providing all the essentials. You can hear the elevator from the master bedroom but it was not a major inconvenience. The Iron Horse complex was very quiet in general.
Jen was great to work with and we look forward to coming back to Winter Park again :)
I found the condo to be extremely comfortable, clean, well appointed and warm. It is more then adequately stocked with every detail, more so then most I've stayed in. The ski locker is just inside the building at the entrance to the corridor making for the ultimate in ski convenience. The condo is well managed by the owner. I enjoyed staying there.
For us, the Iron Horse complex has the best location at Winter Park. It is true ski-in/ski-out, although skiers do need to be able to handle blue runs to ski in. Quieter than the Zephyr where we stayed several years ago.
Jen, the owner, was really helpful and welcoming, even dropping by in person to check that we had gotten in OK. I especially appreciated that since the condo was free the days before we arrived and after we left, Jen allowed us to both check in earlier than the standard 4pm and use the condo to shower after skiing the afternoon that we left.
The condo was very clean and comfortable. The one suggestion I have is that since the couch needs to be moved back in order to pull the Murphy bed down, it would have been easier if furniture-sliding castors had been under the legs of the couch.
The condo's kitchen was better stocked with cookware, dishes and flatware, dishwasher powder, and other supplies than the Zephyr condo. We used one of the slow cookers to make a chili. It would have been nice to have more microwaveable cookware, but the pyrex bowl and regular dishes worked well enough.
The exit to the slopes goes right out of the 5th floor of the building of this unit. We liked the convenience of leaving skis in the small locked ski room right near the door to the slopes. The ski shop on the ground floor of the same building as the condo unit gives a 25% discount on rentals and does not have the long wait or crowds of the rental facilities at the WP base.
The garage parking is nice although the spots are not deeded to specific units so the garage was full when we first arrived. But even when we couldn't park in the garage, it was still helpful to be able to unload our vehicle in the garage right next to the elevator. The clearance was quite low (6'4"?) which could be an issue for larger vehicles with roof carriers.
Overall, staying at this condo was a great experience. Even though the price was more than listed on the VRBO website, it was still less than that of any similar units I found so I thought it was a good value. Adding that the owner is friendly and responsive makes this condo unit a definite winner.
we visited WP several times the last couple years and stayed at the Iron Horse for two of those visits. I like the property for its location between Mary Jane and Winter Park, its quiet, well kept and has a great indoor/outdoor pool and two hot tubs, plus a gym and saunas in the locker rooms. This unit is in a convenient location for the ski in/out access. It has a nice kitchen and living area with a comfortable pull down bed for the kids. The master is large with a very comfortable king bed and quality bedding. My only negatives are the outdated and tight bath and that you can hear the adjacent elevator in the master.
