Photos and Description of the Beaufort vacation house rental
House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

This house was originally built on the Marine base at Parris Island as a barrack. It was moved to Pigeon Point Road in the 1950's where it was converted to a residential home. We purchased it from that location in 2001 and moved to it's present one. It's original size was only 14' by 42 ' and the design is commonly referred to as a 'shotgun house' -- long and narrow. Upon it's arrival we began major renovation immediately adding two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's evolution continued as we could manage with a second major change occurring in 2008 to accommodate our aging parents. More space and comfort was created by adding two bays to the living area. A a gas fireplace was installed in one bay to enhance the sitting area; the other bay provides a nice dinning area with floor to ceiling windows overlooking a flower garden and bird feeders. A walk-in shower was added to one of the baths and the screened porch on the back side of the house was expanded for outdoor seating. A coat closet was added in the hallway between the kitchen and dining room and doubles for extra linen storage. The home is now a full functioning house with roomy cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans and heart-pine flooring throughout -- complete with an authentic claw-foot bathtub just off the master bedroom. Each room is painted a yummy color compatible with the lowcountry surroundings which include a special installation of Eric's oversize lowcountry photographs on the walls - ever reminding guests of the extraordinary wildlife and natural scenics that surround them. Most people who walk in the front door for the first time fall in love with it.

About The Owner

Jan and I have been residents of Beaufort since 1996 and love it. I have been photographing nature & wildlife since college and establishing a commercial photography business in Hilton Head. Jan is a partner in the photo business bringing her artistry as writer, editor, office manager, gourmet cooking, tailoring and tennis coach -- whatever is needed! We met on Hilton Head Island in 1990 when Jan was bringing artists into the area schools, grant writing for the local arts council and raising two youngins. Our first venture together included partnering Jan's grant expertise and my recent photos from Africa into a traveling exhibition. A successful tour later led to marriage. Our travels and adventure continue. We love living on the coast and treasure the unique blend of rich cultural opportunities with extraordinary natural beauty and resources all around us.

The Owner purchased this house in 2001
Why The Owner chose Beaufort

This house, built on Paris Island and later moved to Pigeon Point road, now sits next door to our own home. We moved it here when it was in pretty sad shape but we could see it's potential. We wanted to fix it up into something special. A house different from all the rest - but would blend well in he neighborhood. The remodel was a labor of love and not without it's challenges as older homes can surprise you - once you strip it down to the bones. After it's initial remodel, we have rented the house long term, sold it, bought it back again for my parents to enjoy in their senior years, and now that they have moved on, we have refurnished the interior and made it suitable solely for vacation rental for guests, family and friends.

What makes this house unique

The house is designed to offer the comfort of home, easy to easy to relax and return to after a day of adventure exploring the classic southern lifestyle. From beach, golf, tennis and nature preserves, to city life in Beaufort, 30 minutes to discount shopping in Bluffton, 60 minutes to Hilton Head, Savannah, or Charleston... the choices are truly exciting. And everybody who stays here have complimented us on the accommodations, both internal with easy access to so much ...within walking distance or an easy drive. In the neighborhood, we are walking and biking distance to three parks, downtown shopping and dining in historic Beaufort, public tennis courts, two public boat landings and simply amazing water and marsh views. The drive to the beach is only 20 minutes to Hunting Island State Park where family picnic sites, surfing and swimming and hiking trails through the maritime forest are plentiful. There are many courses for golfers to choose beginning in Beaufort to neighboring Bluffton or onward 60 minutes away to world class golf on Hilton Head. We think we have the perfect vacation package for the whole family including pets with a dog park a dog's walk away.

OORAH! This cottage is perfect for Marine Corps families to visit!

This was the PERFECT place to stay during my son's Marine Corps family day & graduation! It was just a short ride to Parris Island and very easy to get to. The cottage was well stocked and equipped with everything we needed. Quiet neighborhood. Really enjoyed rocking on the front porch while listening to the birds sing. After the graduation, we brought our Marine back to the cottage to relax and rest overnight before making our trip back to Florida. He really enjoyed it and loved the fact that he got to sleep in an old Marine Corps barrack! He said he would live in it, if he could. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

Owner's Response: It is heartwarming to hear from our military families and to learn that in some small way we are able to serve you back with a cozy, home away from home. Our best to all of you. Jan & Eric

Loved it!!

We so enjoyed our month-long stay at this cottage and the wonderful city of Beaufort. Eric and Jan are the best!!! Wonderful hosts, helpful, friendly, and offer interesting insights to the area. Neighborhood is great for walking. Fabulous park nearby with many live oaks . So much history, we could not get it all in :) The antebellum homes of The Point were wonderful walking tours. Several day trips to the Sea Islands and surrounding areas....we saw a lot but there is more.

Hopefully, Jan and Eric can maintain this cottage in it's current very-liveable, clean status. We want to return again and again.

Our stay in Beaufort

The attractive, comfortable cottage was neat and clean as it could possibly be. The sheets and towels were of good quality. I would recommend a light weight cotton blanket instead of the ones available. All kitchen items, ie, utensils, pots and pans, dishes, linens were of good quality. A well equipped kitchen. A short drive to downtown, all restaurants..but not within walking distance. The neighborhood was just so so. I wish there was a queen bed in the room with the adjoining shower or there was a shower in the bathroom near the master bedroom.

Adorable house

We really enjoyed our stay at this adorable house in the heart of Beaufort. It was well appointed, well maintained and very comfortable. The location is perfect for walking and seeing all that Beaufort has to offer. Although the weather was cool and damp during part of our stay we were quite comfortable in this cozy house. The owners were always ready to help but not at all intrusive. The house is nicely appointed with beautiful photos of the surrounding area taken by the owner.
We would rent here again without question.
