If you are seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, let us invite you to this unique oceanfront cottage. For the past 23 years, we have been welcoming guests from around the world to the Boathouse B&B. At the suggestion of some of our guests, we now offer a self-catering option, which means no breakfast but coffee, tea, hot chocolate and milk are provided. However, if you would like a continental breakfast, we would be more than happy to oblige.
THE BOATHOUSE is a 450 sq.ft. cottage built in 1927 on cement pilings right over the calm waters of Brentwood Bay. The Boathouse, as well as the adjacent Bathhouse, have been completely and tastefully refurbished but still retain the charm and old-style craftsmanship of the original buildings. Both are warmed by electric heat. Daily service includes fresh towels and trash removal, plus twice-weekly light housekeeping.
THE 'GREAT ROOM' features a queen-size bed with a Beauty Rest box spring and mattress. Together with cozy triple-brushed flannel sheets, down-filled pillows and the gentle lapping of waves, you are assured of a great night's sleep. The table is set for two and overlooks the water and a private island. The CD player and a selection of oldies, jazz and classics, along with fresh cut flowers and candles lets you set the mood for a wonderfully romantic evening.
THE GALLEY does not have cooking facilities per se (due to a local bylaw). It is, however, equipped with a toaster oven, automatic coffee maker, electric tea kettle, fridge and, of course, glasses, dishes, cutlery, etc. The Village of Brentwood Bay is but a 5 minute drive and has three delis, pub, liquor store, bookstore, drugstores, bakery, and a full-service grocery store so there are a lot of options for you. Also within a 10-20 minute stroll from the Boathouse, along the waterfront, are three excellent oceanfront restaurants and a world-class lodge and spa. The world-famous Butchart Gardens is a 10 minute row in our dinghy or a 20 minute walk from the Boathouse. It also offers a cafeteria, restaurant, and superb dining room, as well as picnic tables.
THE 'LIBRARY' with an eclectic selection of books and games, comes complete with two swivel rocking chairs and ottoman, plus a view of sailboats and islands.
THE VERANDAH with its comfortable, wicker rocking chairs and teak side table is a great place to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening nightcap while you watch the marvelous sunsets.
THE PRIVATE DOCK is very spacious (12 ft. x 30 ft.) and can accommodate your boat or seaplane. It provides a platform to view jellyfish, starfish, otters, seals and water birds. It's also a great place to catch the sun. The dock also serves as a launching pad for the dinghy for your rowing trips to Butchart Gardens or down the tranquil waters of Tod Inlet for a picnic on a shale beach. You can also swim off the dock during the warm summer months.
THE BATHHOUSE is adjacent to the Boathouse and is lined with tongue and groove cedar with a Swedish oil finish. It features a corner brass and glass shower, pedestal sink, toilet, antique cabinet, as well as solid brass light fixtures. All this, plus a spectacular ocean view of Saanich Inlet!
THE BOATHOUSE is really a world unto itself and yet it is only 20 minutes from the airport, ferries, Town of Sidney and the City of Victoria. You owe yourselves the luxury of some quiet time...and we invite you spend that time at the Boathouse.

The Village of Brentwood Bay is a 5 minute drive and has all of the amenities you will need to make your vacation complete. The City of Victoria and Town of Sidney are within a 20 minute drive.
The Boathouse is on the water's edge. We live in a bungalow at the top of the property so one of us is usually around to answer your questions.
Thank you, Jean and Harvey, for your wonderful hospitality. This is truly a beautiful place and we have been privileged to have enjoyed it for the last four days.
The Boathouse is a place unto itself. It is a tranquil, peaceful and quaint. There is no other place where I would be willing to walk outside to get to the bathhouse. Oddly, here it just seems natural. The cottage and the bathhouse were squeaky clean. The chairs in the cottage's library were fantastically comfortable and when combined with the view of the bay made for the perfect place to linger over morning coffee. One of my fondest memories of The Boathouse will always be sipping wine while sitting in rocking chairs on the dock. I would caution those who want to experience this great place to pack lightly. The steps down to the cottage are many, but the thoughtful landings make it less of a problem. Harvey and Jean were wonderful hosts. Thank you, Harvey, for suggesting the Brentwood Pub, for dinner. We ended up eating there three nights and thoroughly enjoyed it each night. Thank you, Jean, for telling Curt about Cathedral Grove on Highway #4. We stopped there on our way back to Nanaimo from Ucluelet and loved it. What a beautiful place! It was a peaceful and special place - just like The Boathouse.
We were fortunate to have found the Boathouse on our latest trip. To say that it is charming, romantic and peaceful barely begins to describe this piece of "heaven on earth". My husband and I are very experienced travelers and have stayed in many wonderful places over the years, the Boathouse ranks right at the top. Jean and Harvey keep the cottage and grounds in immaculate condition. They are excellent hosts, warm, welcoming and happy to dispense information. We loved taking the dingy over to Butchart Gardens for a tour! We can't wait to return.
Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a meditative retreat, or cozy home base to explore greater Victoria you will find the Boathouse to be the perfect vacation destination.
From the moment my husband and I descended the stairs to the private dock and entered the charming Boathouse we were delighted with the clean and cozy interior of this hideaway and even more so with the natural and tranquil beauty surrounding it.
Owners, Harvey and Jean, provided so many details for our comfort and convenience. We highly recommend The Boathouse for a memorable vacation haven.
The Boathouse is a charming little hide away by the sea. It was all we had hoped for and more. Jean and Harvey were so friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed many activities the area had to offer, but we were always excited to get back to our little house by the sea. We never tired of sitting out on the veranda and watching all the wildlife and activity. The restaurants in the bay were convenient and did not disappoint. It was truly a unique experience that you cannot find anywhere else!
Our week in the Beach House was wonderful. Jean and Harvey were great hosts who managed to walk the difficult line between being welcoming and respecting our privacy. The accommodation in the Boat House was lovely - the bed is extremely comfy, the kitchen has everything you need and the bathroom was a pleasure to use. We relished the peace and spent hours watching the seals, humming birds and even eagles going about their business.
The view is sublime, especially early in the morning and at sunset. Sit on the verandah or on the jetty with a glass of wine and relish the peace, the fresh air and the wildlife. I'm sure that you, like us, will find it very hard to leave.
The view, charm, ambience, soul and of course the hosts Harvey & Jean are beyond words. The Boathouse must be experienced in person to fully appreciate its location and charm, My wife and i could not have chosen a better place to celebrate her 60th B'Day and some much needed down time. This location offers the best the Saanich inlet has to offer from world class spa to Butchart Gardens and just the natural beauty and tranquility of Tod Inlet and Finlayson Arm, all just minutes away, walking or by dingy.Having arrived by boat, Harvey & Jeans help with knowledge of the local area and help with mooring etc. was greatly appreciated, their attention to detail is unsurpassed in every way from cleanliness to decor of the Boathouse and its original charm.Having stayed at many listings vrbo has to offer this ranks at the very top of my list, the description and photos are a small prelude to the actual experience. My hats off to Harvey and Jean for providing us with such a wonderful memorable experience never to be forgotten, we hope to be back soon!!!!
