Do you need a break? How about a typical 'marinara-Veneto cuisine' and local D.O.C. wines? Well, Duna Verde is the place for you.
Duna Verde is located in the heart of the Adriatic coast. Flowered paths, storybook architecture, far from chaos, overlooking the sea. This is a full-service community, with various grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping. There is a great market once a week in the piazza (I love the drunken cheese).
This beach resort is a five-minute drive from Caorle, one of Ernest Hemingway's favorite places. Here you will see the 'casoni,' the ancient fishermen's homes made of reeds. The exquisite aromas of fresh fish risottos and pastas, and just talking about it makes me drool.
Our home is nestled in a garden community with tennis courts, pools, and, if you choose not to go to the beach, the small garden is very relaxing.
The first level is kitchen and living room with a bathroom. The second level has two queen-size beds and a room with bunk beds, bathroom with shower. There is a lower level where we rinse off and store two bicycles. A very nice stone barbecue is in the garden area.
Because of the salt air we have given up on the washer, but there is a Laundromat very close to the house.
Places to see - Trieste, Acquilea, Venice, Yugoslavia, Treviso, the entire Fiuli, and the Dolomites.
Duna Verde is a small holiday home community favourably located by the sea in the Veneto region. Situated near the historic village of Caorle (15 mins by car) and Venice (1 hour by car), the location is ideal as a base for long or short trips or simply for bathing. Beaches are 5 mins walk from the appartment, and are well organized. Be aware that sun chairs cost 5-16 Euros per day, and that own equipment is not allowed in front of these private areas. The (rather small) public area is free, but be early as it could get crowded. Nice clean water, and the beaches are cleaned every night. There are mosquitoes in Duna Verde, and these are bothersome after sunset.
Duna Verde itself is also well maintained and quite clean. There are some small grocery stores within walking distance of the apartment, but there are much better large supermarkets nearby. We preferred the S. Dona Di Piave Coop Ipermaket (35 mins by car). The few local restaurants are OK, but there is a wider and better choice in Caorle. Good local hairdresser in Duna, and some small shops.
The apartment is acceptably equipped, relatively clean and has a distinct 1970s look and feel. There is a washing machine, but no dishwasher. The possibility to park inside own courtyard is an added bonus. The surrounding apartments seemed to be inhabited mainly by italian families, and the area felt safe and shielded, being off the main road. No A/C in apartment, which meant that we had to sleep with open windows and shutters. This was an open invite to the mosquitoes, and the shutters could slam in the wind during the night because of defective locks. Main beds are quite hard. The terrace is rather small if you want to eat outside. The rattly bicycles are usable for a short ride to the store.
To summarize; good location, good beach, family friendly, but apartment could be better equipped and maintained. Local facilities and restaurants in Duna Verde are only adequate. There is also some room for improvement in the communication from owner (by e-mail).
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here. The house was lovely, just as described on the listing, and comfortably accommodated our group of four adults and two children. The fact that we could park two cars in the paved garden was an added bonus. Our day started with freshly baked buns from the bakery for breakfast then tennis on the clay court while it was cool. The pool area was beautifully maintained and although we were there during the high season it was never overcrowded.
A car is not necessary as there are so many facillities at hand and a very good bus service. We found many restaurants within walking distance but Il Carro and Bella Duna were our favourites.
