South Thomaston House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 8)

This is an immaculate and comfortable house with unobstructed views of the water from most rooms and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy, Hayden Point is a relaxing retreat. On a quiet dead-end road, the house overlooks a salt waterway leading to the Atlantic.

Hayden Point owns 100 feet of saltwater frontage making east access to the river for fishing, kayaking or canoeing via steps leading down to a small floating dock. There is also a boat launch open for public use about one half mile from the Hayden Point House.

The kitchen contains everything you need to cook a gourmet meal, but you also can get some of the best lobster in Maine 5 minutes away, and you are only five miles from downtown Rockland, which has several outstanding restaurants, as well as a fine art museum, galleries and shops. Camden is a short distance as well.

This craftsman style home built in 2004 has 2.5 baths and sleeps 8 adults in three bedrooms (children are welcome, too!). A private master suite with water views has a king-size bed and sitting area, a large bathroom with a garden tub and custom walk in shower, and two vanities (one within the bathroom and one in the hallway to the bath). A second bedroom on the ground floor has a queen-sized bed and small sitting area, and a nearby half bath. Upstairs there is a second full bath off a very large bedroom with a big sitting area, games table and 180 degree spectacular water views. The king-sized bed in this room can be separated into two extra-long twin beds and there also is a queen sleeper sofa. A portable crib is provided as well. The house has a great deal of closet space and drawers for storage. All linens are provided and are 100% cotton. A washer and dryer on the main level provided as well.

The first floor is the main living space with an open dining room, which seats 6-8 people, and living room overlooking the lawn and the water beyond. The kitchen is fully-equipped with solid-surface counter tops, cherry cabinetry, an electric oven, gas cook-top, dishwasher, trash-compactor, microwave, double-door refrigerator and dishwasher and a walk-in pantry. The kitchen has a breakfast nook and double French doors leading to the wraparound deck. The deck has a table, plenty of seating and a large Weber gas grill.

The living room and den area is outfitted with comfortable and stylish furnishings, a flat-screen television, cable, a DVD player, stereo and Internet access. Large windows overlook the deck and the expansive lawn and waterfront. Novels, local guide books and maps are also included.

Hayden Point has 100 feet of saltwater frontage making access to the river for fishing, swimming, kayaking or canoeing easy from the front yard and steps leading down to a small floating dock. There is also a boat launch open for public use about one half mile from the Hayden Point House.

South Thomaston is located just five miles from downtown Rockland, 15 miles from Camden/Rockport and five miles from the St. George Peninsula and the villages of Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde. Hayden Point is less than 10 minutes from Primo, one of the best restaurants in New England.

Dogs are allowed with owner permission and additional pet fee.

Why Kay Etheridge chose South Thomaston

Mid-coast Maine is special due to the lovely people and beautiful setting. Hayden Point is quiet and away from it all, but only a 10 minute drive from Rockland, which has an abundance of shops, restaurants, galleries and lots to do. We have been going to Maine for more than 20 years and this is our favorite area by far.

Exquisite skies

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful house in a perfect location for peace and quiet but near enough to all local amenities and attractions. The house is roomy, extraordinarily clean, well-equipped and very comfortable. The large garden backs onto the waterfront and it's lovely, especially in the evening when the skies (with views from most all of the windows) are simply breathtaking. Kayaking and fishing are easy off the dock. For activities farther afield, there are great cafes and restaurants, museums, historic lighthouses, beautiful woodland walks with nearby beaches. It's a great holiday spot for a large group of people with varying interests -- there is truly something for everyone.

Wonderful Home in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

I have spent summer vacations on the coast of Maine since I was a child and somehow manage to find something new and exciting to enjoy there each year. This rental home was this year’s highlight. It is close enough to town (Rockland) to make it convenient to get to restaurants, grocery stores, shops, galleries and the Farnsworth and yet far enough away to give the peaceful privacy so needed on vacation. The home is stunning with its beautiful clean lines and furnishings. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all spaced far apart which is great for quietness when sleeping (and napping)!

The owner Kay is extremely helpful with everything related to the house and the activities in and around the area. She suggested some new things for my group and her expertise would greatly benefit anyone new to the area. We enjoyed many sunsets on the deck and the breezes kept the mosquitoes mostly under control. Bug spray and a citronella candle didn’t hurt either.

New for us this year were: Sightseeing flight to Acadia (1 hr, 5 people), Hope Elephants and the Hope General Store, Slipway Dock, Miranda Cafe. Some old favorites: Marshall Point, Owls Head and Breakwater Lights, Mohegan Island, Puffin/Nature Cruise out of Port Clyde, Pemaquid Point, Boothbay, Camden, Lincolnville, Rockland (Farnsworth).

I would recommend this home and location to anyone. I’m already planning my trip for 2015!

Wonderful home, great location

  • 5 of 5

This house is both beautiful and comfortable. Upon arrival, we found a binder with instructions and helpful information that made our check-in easy. The owner made herself readily available before and during our stay even while she was traveling abroad. Her enthusiasm for her home and her desire to make us feel welcomed was quite refreshing and much appreciated.

The walls of beautiful windows allow unobstructed views of the cove as well as a way to enjoy the ever-present breezes. There is plenty of room to spread out and comfortable seating arrangements on each level. The beds were very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets and towels on each floor.

The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and appliances and comes with cookbooks and helpful menus from local eateries. The laundry room was also well stocked with a large-capacity washer and dryer.

If we were not out sight seeing, we enjoyed spending time on the deck or down at the dock experiencing the astounding tides. We saw ospreys hunting fish in the cove each evening as well as a fox family scampering across the lawn early one morning. We even saw a lone seal in the cove one high tide afternoon. In the evenings, our family enjoyed playing the games Risk and Monopoly that were kept upstairs.

We enjoyed exploring the Owl's Head Transportation Museum, and Owl's Head Light House, the Lighthouse Museum and the Children's Museum in Rockland, Camden, Spruce Point State Park, Camden State Park and just driving around looking at the beautiful landscape. Maine's state parks are jewels and seem to be scattered every few miles. If we ever return, I will purchase a Maine State Park car pass as this would have been more economical.

We liked Hannaford Supermarket in Rockland. We were able to try a lot of Maine-produced food there. We had fun eating at Wasses Hot Dog Stand in Rockland and Dorman's Dairy Dream in Thomaston--both are Maine traditions and child friendly.

I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to explore the mid-coast areas of Maine.

Upscale house in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented many houses in many locations on the east coast and this was one of our absolute favorites. The house is very well-kept, clean and was the best equipped house we have ever rented. The kitchen is fully stocked with every appliance, plentiful dishes and silverware, pots, pans, spices, wraps, bags, etc. Made our resident chef very happy! The towles and sheets were plenitful and high quality. A large gas grill, nice deck and yard, our own dock. It was awesome. The locaiton was beautiful and neighborhood quiet. We took in the Lobster Fest in Rockland, several galleries and shops, a couple of days around Camden - beautiful - and a day trip to Acadia (also beautiful but very crowded). We had good meals at The Pearl and also at Archer's on the Pier (despite mixed reviews, guess we got lucky?). We even took in a blueberry pancake breakfast served at the local church every Friday morning - highly recommended!! The owner is a delight to work with and very responsive to any questions and quick to make recommendations for outings or restaurants if asked . All in all, a 5 star experinece!

Stylish, comfortable, picturesque central location

  • 4 of 5

My two sisters and I used this location for a week's vacation. The house was comfortable and well-appointed, with a wonderful view of evening sunsets. The artwork and furnishings were above our expectations. Although there are houses on either side, we felt we were in our own little was quiet and peaceful. We would have liked to spend more time outside, but the mosquitoes this year were ferocious! The location was centrally located for all the places we wanted to visit. Highlights of our stay were Farnsworth Museum, Olson House, Botanical Gardens, Rockland, Camden, Belfast, Birch Point Beach, Marshall Point and Owl Head lighthouses. Rockland was a great location for galleries, shops, and food: In Good Company was a favorite, as was Home Kitchen Café. We also enjoyed Rustica, The Brass Compass, Waterman's, the Slip Away (latter two in Thomaston, I think). All in all a wonderful vacation!

Maine Waterfront Perfection

  • 5 of 5

Hayden Point House was everything we expected it to be, and much more!

The house itself is gorgeous, and everything we could possibly have needed was there for us. The décor, the quiet neighborhood, the layout of the house and all the amenities, including appliances, books, games and food in the pantry were all amazing!

The waterfront location afforded us the ability to jump in our kayaks (which we kept on the floating dock) whenever we wanted, the big yard was perfect for children's games and the sunsets every evening were just beautiful over the water!

When we had a minor issue with the freezer, the owners couldn't have been more helpful and couldn't have come to our rescue any faster than they did, to solve the problem and help us keep things cold until the issue resolved itself.

Hayden Point House was the best vacation ever for us and our family. Thank you to Don and Kay Etheridge!
