Photos and Description of the Traverse City vacation cabin rental
Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6-7)

This newly renovated cabin on a 7.5 acre private island is a luxury retreat. You will be the only people on the whole island!! Some 900 feet from shore, it is just far enough away from the mainland to provide privacy and seclusion without being remote....electrical power provided by the local power company. There is limited parking available on the shore lot and a public launch for your own private boat (optional) is visible from the island. The SS Wimpy which is a no frills pontoon boat will be available to you for transportation to and from shore. The island is located almost within the Traverse City limits and it does have a Traverse City address, although it is close to the Interlochen School of Arts where many big name concerts are held throughout the year.

The island is heavily wooded and provides wonderful paths for walking The sunrises and sunsets are magnificent and the moonlight and stars reflecting on the lake, which can be seen from your bed, defy description. And...in July there are wild blueberries for picking.

The cabin itself has just been Completely renovated. It boasts a gourmet kitchen with top of the line Electrolux appliances and a full size stackable washer and dryer in the utility room. There is one large full bath with a tub/shower combination and one high end (!) outhouse. The loft has a lovely deck off it which has beautiful views and is just the spot for your morning coffee or evening toddies. The furnishings are a combination of antiques and new things and they deserve your respect as they will make your stay more joyful.

There is exterior furniture for sitting out and enjoying the views. There are several sandy beaches and long walks along the island edge are great fun. The fishing is wonderful. This is a pretty quiet lake with an occasional jet ski but it is not where you want to be if you have a rowdy agenda.

Namaste' Island is located on Bass Lake which is a 350 acre spring fed lake located some 15 minutes from downtown Traverse City. It is a very healthy all sports lake which has little jet ski activity and is reminiscent of On Golden Pond. The shoreline is fully 60% undeveloped and it feels as if you are in the wilderness, especially when you watch the eagles on their nest. And...we're a very few miles from Moomers which was named the best Ice Cream Store in America in 2008!

Fantastic Time

Submitted: August 8, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
One Fantastic time...

The week went too fast and we really didn't want to leave...I mean How many times do you get to play on your own island for a week? The best compliment I can give is...that the house, besides being top notch, felt like a home to us as soon as we walked in. Linda had fresh flowers in the living room and a yummy cherry pie was waiting for us in the kitchen.

We brought along our two Portuguese water dogs, who finally got to act like the water dogs they are, swimming and running in the lake as often as they pleased. The island was just great...and the surrounding water allowed you to walk around the whole island on the waters edge. Just make sure you bring along water/beach shoes. Exploring the wooden area on the island, which I call the forest preserve (being from Chicago) was a lot of fun and we did that daily.

My husband fished off the pier & caught a couple large mouth bass there. He also took the SS Whimpy out daily fishing,& got lucky, but he kindly threw them all back even thou some were keepers.

What we found out that was really nice about this island is that it is narrow and long...so you can be on either side of the island or water in a matter of a minute or 2, then have long walks from one end to the other. Decking was wrapped around 3/4 of the house so there were relaxing areas everywhere with different views. And the fire pit was a nice feature to have.

The main land is only a very few minutes away and once in your car, shopping is close, about 10-15 minutes away. Besides the basic shopping (grocery stores etc)...we went into Traverse's downtown area (great shops) and another day we drove up to Bay Harbor.

I thought being on your own private island and having all that nice privacy & time, that I would have time to read some magazines & that Bob and I would play cards. But No! & its weird to say... but...we just had no time to do either of those things.

Oh and you should know... even thou the pictures listed here on the site are great,in person it's even better looking.
We rate this stay as one of our most favorite vacations. We all had a blast on Namaste Island.
Thank you!!! Linda for all the kindness you gave us and letting us stay in your beautiful home on the island.

We truly miss being there and hope to see you next year.
Hug!& Licks,
Bob,Judy,Cooper & MabelMay

Family had a great time!

My family and I had a great time staying on Namaste Island. The home is really nice, and had a lot of furnishings that most rentals don't. Everyday, was spent fishing and swimming, with campfires in the evening.

We were even allowed to bring our dog, who loved playing in the water and exploring the island.

Linda does a great job of explaining everything and letting us know where everything is located. She even greeted us with a freshly baked cherry pie.
