My husband and I spent the 2nd half of our honeymoon at Christine and Carl's place up in the mountains of Kona from 1/8/13 - 1/12/13. Christine and Carl are very gracious hosts. It's a pretty short drive to the beaches and downtown Kona - Ali'i street...maybe 15 minutes. It is very well decorated with updated furnishings making it a very charming and relaxing place to come home to after your Big Island excursions. The kitchen is small but very functional with everything needed to make a delicious meal...for instance ahi steaks on the grill outside (yum!) We really appreciated the beach towels, beach chairs, umbrella and bamboo mats they made available to us in the unit. There was also a dehumidifier which we didn't need but I thought was nice to have. They provide a nice selection of DVDs (we watched Amelie and Green Mile in the evenings) and books about the island...definitely look at The Big Island Revealed (blue cover) - it proved invaluable to us on our trip!! Our favorite thing we did was snorkeling at Kahalu'u. Also valuable, they have a laminated booklet with lots of information on local things to do, checkout instructions, and restaurant tips...Our favorite suggestion was Lotus Cafe and is one of those places you would NEVER find unless a local tipped you off to it. They have the grounds beautifully landscaped...our favorite was the tangerine tree with fresh and delicious tangerines ripe for the picking and the relaxing fish pond. There's a friendly cat names Bob (sadly we only got to meet him once) and 2 sheep...I think the female Bandy was pregnant when we were there but I'm not sure when she will lamb. Christine handles all the booking and she is very easy to work with and everything goes smoothly. My husband and I had reservations about leaving this review because we want the place to be available next time we come visit - hopefully for our 5th anniversary! But we decided it wouldn't be fair to not give Chris and Carl the review they deserve. Overall this place is a real gem!! Thanks for helping to make our honeymoon special and memorable which is so so important!
