Overview

Kailua Kona Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

WELCOME

Visit our charming custom-built apartment tucked away on 4 acres in up-country Kona. The apartment, with a private entry is located below our home and at the end of a long driveway allowing for privacy and seclusion. The property “looks like a park,” according to one guest, with expansive lawn areas, lush landscaping with ohia trees, tree ferns, antheriums, and other tropical plants. For his wedding, which took place in the yard, our son created a beautiful stream and pond full of koi and other tropical fish. In our fenced pasture live our horse, Scooby, and four sheep, Bandy, Roscoe, Buster, and Max.

BEDROOM AND BATH

The peaceful and private master bedroom is decorated in a tropical theme and features a queen-sized bed. Travertine covers the floor, shower, and antique cabinet in the bathroom, which includes a tub shower combination.

SITTING ROOM

The sitting room has a queen-sized sofa sleeper for two additional guests and features a 32” flat screen plasma HDTV. It is adjacent to the kitchen and opens on to the spacious lanai.

LANAI

From the sitting room, step out onto a vine-covered lanai looking out to views of the Kona Coastline, the perfect spot to enjoy the garden and 'plein air' dining. The lanai is furnished with a teak dining set and two comfy wicker chairs.

KITCHEN

The kitchen is small, yet sufficient, set up with a small refrigerator, cook top, microwave, coffee maker and necessary kitchen supplies for cooking and dining. Enjoy the granite countertop and lovely window that looks out to the yard and coastline views.

About Christine Carlson

My husband is from the beautiful island of Maui. I have lived in Hawaii since our wedding and am grateful that we were able raise our 4 children in this lovely place with its rich culture and lush surroundings. I am a retired teacher and my husband is a retired rancher now doing development consulting. We like hiking, swimming, golf, tennis and the ocean. 'Lucky we live Hawaii.'

Christine Carlson purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Christine Carlson chose Kailua Kona

We opened our rental in 1995 in a private apartment below our main house. We rented it to guests for several years and recently our son and daughter-in-law lived in it for about a year. They have moved on to their own home and we are open for business again. I love sharing our lovely property and the Kona life style with guests. The rooms were recently renovated to make them even more beautiful and comfortable for our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for the lovely pace to stay for the past 2 nights. We enjoyed it very much and thank you for having the best spot on the Island. If we are fortunate enough to return to Hawaii someday, we will definitely book in again. We loved the sheep.

Wonderful views, cozy and pretty

  • 4 of 5

My husband, 8 month old son and I were so fortunate to have found this beautiful little rental for a week. Although it was unusually rainy, and my son and I were sick the first week, we still loved the gorgeous setting and cozy amenities that had everything. We enjoyed the animals on the property, gorgeous sunsets, and very comfortable bed. As we were traveling with an infant, we probably could have rented a high chair for meals as space is limited to a few chairs for patio dining. While our time was marked by unseasonal rains, the dampness at that elevation (2,000 ft I think?) was kept in control by a dehumidifier the owners provided. We were very impressed at how convenient the home was to Kailua town, Costco,Walmart and Target- yet hidden away in the lush hills. The owners were so gracious about having a small (and sick) baby stay on the property, and we felt like we had lots of privacy. As well, this location is located just minutes away from a Kaiser Urgent Care hospital - very handy for Kaiser members with children! We also thought it was a great place to do our trips to Hapuna Beach and Waikaloa village as we didn't have to go through Kailua town traffic (which is getting pretty heavy these last few years). All in all, this was a great option that was close enough to town without being stuck in a tourist zone. It truly is a gorgeous property, and the bird song in the morning is just beautiful.

Unusual Remarkable Tranquil Good Value!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a week in Christine and Carl’s custom-built apartment attached to their home. The surrounding is beautiful and neatly manicured with a park-like setting for the enjoyment of the guests. Even though the owners were upstairs, we hardly noticed them. They were there to welcome us and Christine spent time for familiarize us with the apartment as well as provide us from information about the farmer markets—Waimea Homestead and Waimea Town Farmers Market, near each other. The kitchen is small, but served us well with warming up our breakfasts and our left overs from eating our meals outside as we customarily do not like to cook during our vacation. We like to eat at the nearby Pine Tree Café, which serves Hawaiian food, eat-in or take-out. The location is on higher elevation than downtown and is away from the main highway but secluded; and very convenient to shopping. We visited the coffee farms along the Kona Coffee growing belt and learned quite a bit about its agriculture and processing. One of the largest is nearby down the road. The temperature was cool and even chilly in the evening and nights during our stay in February. Thanks Christina and Carl for a memorable stay and alerting us about Foxy’s love for shoes.

Unique setting

  • 5 of 5

This location is truly for the traveler that wants to get away from the heck tic type of travel and wants to experience the true environment of the land and culture. Great location for getting around the island and yet have your little bit of privacy. Perfect for solo or a couple.

The owners give hospitality a true meaning to the word.

Peaceful place and Kindly people!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed staying here. Our kids love this garden, playing the swing and the slide very much. The owners know what you might need, so all amenities are good enough.

When we left the room, we forgot a bag at the porch. Then, the owners saved our bag, and sent it back to us. We really appreciate the owners kindness what they've done for us!!!
