Tranquility and Magic
As an American, please allow me to aim this squarely at my fellow countrymen. If you have stumbled across this little gem in your search for a destination, just stop looking and book "The Tower" if your dates are still available. If you are considering somewhere else, stop, rent a car and do whatever it take to get here (you WILL need a car). One caveat...If you need nightlife, hustle and bustle, museums and throngs of people, ignore my suggestion and move on. If what you are seeking is a pastoral retreat, spectacular views, charming villages, friendly locals, and a true taste of Spain/Europe with no urban aftertaste, then this is for you. If you want to relax and take it slow, this is for you. If you want to bike, hike, stroll...this is for you. Above all, if you want to slow down and reconnect or just spend solid quality time with your family, partner, spouse, or fellow travelers...book the tower. Now. The restoration was done with loving care, and the facility is remarkable...historic and rustic, yet comfortable and accomodating. Elena and Jose Mari are incredibly gracious and helpful hosts. The surrounding area, both villages and countryside, are picturesque and are full of hidden gems. There were very few tourists here during our stay, and we felt that we were really able to connect with the locals (we have some bad Spanish, which helps a bit, but lots of folks speak English as well, and are very patient). This could not have been more perfect. Jaca is nearby and well worth the drive. France is close if you want to do a day trip. All the modern conveniences are just down the hill in Broto, but when you head back up the hill to your tower in Oto, you travel back in time to a period that we Americans have only read about. Book it. Live it. Do it. You WILL NOT regret it. My only other caveat...this is a tower after all, and there are steep stairs. I cannot emphasize enough that this is not an appropriate property for anyone who is remotely mobility-challenged, and that if you have small children, you should not bring them here unless you will be diligent about watching them very closely while you are there...our daughter fell down a flight of stairs and she's 15! No harm done, but it made us think. Could I possibly gush a little more? We were in three countries on this last trip and stayed in four separate destinations. La Torre de Oto is the only place we visited upon which we all agree that we will one day return
