Overall decent place, but be prepared for bugs!

Here's what I wish someone had told me before we arrived: great location, decent amenities, lots of bugs IN the house.
1. Great location. Right on the main road and near everything. On east-side so get good breezes and right on the beach.
2. Decent amenities with one caveat. "AC" means wall unit coolers only in the bedrooms. Only fans in the common areas.
3. Bugs in the house- We had roaches on the wall, beetles in the silverware drawer, spiders in every corner, and lots and LOTS of ants. Ants on the counters, in the bed, in the couch. You cannot leave ANY food out of the fridge. I found that out the hard way when I looked into my bowl of cereal and saw I had been eating ant-infested cereal. Same was true for crackers, pasta, etc. You can't leave a drink on the counter for more than 5 minutes without it being covered by ants. I think this is important to know for people intending to stay here, especially those with little kids.
Don't get me wrong, it's a cottage on the beach so I expected the occasional bug here and there. But it did look like the place hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a while (dead bugs and dust behind the bed and in the corners) and could use a pest perimeter spray.
Overall the experience was nice and relaxing, but mostly when we were outside. As long as people are prepared for the critters, this would be a good place to vacation.
Owner's Response: In response to this review first off we do not have cockroaches, we sometimes get palmetto bugs, which have even been seen in 5 star hotels on this island. If even a small particle of food is left out, there could be small ants.
Being of European background we pride ourselves in offering a very clean home in a spectacular setting. Even though the house is standing on poles, not on ground level, we do get occasional spider.
In the last 3 years this has been only a second complain about ants. Unfortunately it is not possible to satisfy a 100% of our guests, but we try.
