We are both Alabama natives, who grew up coming down to Gulf Shores every summer. We now practice law in Montgomery, Alabama.
We both grew up vacationing in Gulf Shores and enjoy taking our kids here on vacation. Some of my best memories are of night crabbing and body surfing with my family. Our son loves the Dauphin Island SeaLab aquarium, you could almost walk to the ferry to Dauphin Island from the Indies. It is a really fun way to spend a day riding the ferry and enjoying the SeaLab and nature walk on Dauphin Island.
The Indies gives you that old beach experience like when we were growing up. There are no high rises or crowds. Once at the beach you've got state park to your west all the way to the end of the island. You can walk over to Fort Morgan from the beach and explore.
Even though this area of the beach is peaceful and uncrowded there is a fun bar and restaurant, Tacky Jacks, right across the street. There is also a marina where you can hire a boat for fishing or a jet ski or para-sail for some adventure.
