Labor Day Weekend 2010
Everything was easy to locate and the house was spotless! Our family of 9 had a wonderful time. I'm so glad you listed on Homeaway.com. It truly was our home away. Thanks for great accommodations.
Lots of bedroom space, close to downtown. Clean and quiet. No water in lake. Make sure you turn on hot tub early to heat. Enjoyed stay. Having dog kennrls, crib, and highchair was great.
This was our third time to stay at this home. The photos online are accurate; however, the house feels more "homey and comfortable" than the images depict. As we knew from the news as well as researching online, the area has been in a drought and the lake has been low; certainly lower than our last visit in 2011. With that said, we don't come for the lake. Granbury is great "get away - small town location" for our family to get together. We love the location (few min from the town square) as well as the quite street this house is located on. The home is well maintained, very clean, comfortable with enough bedding for our family of 8 (6 adults and 2 kids). 4 Bedrooms plus a sun porch with beds for the kids and 2 baths. We enjoy spending a day on the Historic Town Square; visiting the shops and eating out. We also appreciate the big open kitchen at this home that is fully equipped with everything you need for family meals or simple snacks. A hot tub has been added since our last visit which we enjoyed each evening with a glass of wine and looking at the stars in the Texas sky. My favorite spot is the front porch swing with a good book. The men all enjoyed the flat screen TV for Sunday football. We all left saying we should not wait another 3 years for our get together at this home. It was even more enjoyable than our past visits.
We arrived late one night after a long day of work and driving. The house was disgusting. There was crystalized pee in the showers, filthy toilets, filthy towels, dead bugs and sand in the sheets from previous renters, a sticky and dirty fridge, weevils in the pantry (which I later found in my car after we left). When I confronted the property manager, they accused me of causing damage to the property and wanted to keep my security deposit which only adds insult to injury. I had to find a Walmart late at night and then stay up until 1am cleaning. Then, I wake up the next morning and discover that it is falsely advertised as a lake house and judging by the amount of vegetation that has grown in the wash, has not been a lake house for 3-5 years. Save your sanity and money and stay at the cheapest and sleaziest hotel/motel you can find. You will be closer to the lake and will have a better chance of not bringing home something disgusting.
This is an older home that has been maintained and updated. We are a family traveling with 5 adults, one teen and two small dogs. Every person or couple had their own room, although the sunroom with the twin bed is off the master. Everyone reports that their beds were extremely comfortable.
The living room/dining room was also comfortable. Very comfy sofa and reclining chairs squeezed in to provide lots of seating. We enjoyed a couple of evenings watching TV and playing cards at the enormous dining table.
The kitchen was stocked with pans, skillets, etc., although the age of some of the refrigerator and pantry items were questionable. They should probably be inspected and cleaned out a bit. I had brought everything I needed, though, so not a problem for us.
The master bedroom had a large walk-in closet stocked with various sizes of dog kennels, so easily accommodated the pooches, who had a safe place to stay when we went into town.
The neighborhood is a mix of older single family houses, new houses and mobile homes in various states of repair. We have found this to be typical of most older lake subdivisions. Be prepared when you go outside or for a walk. About every house has at least 1 large dog, so you will be barked and yowled at most of your time outdoors. The dogs loved it. Me-- not so much.
The bathrooms were clean and stocked with soap and fresh towels. Beware of the shower curtain in the bath off the hall, the rod is very loose.
We didn't use the hot-tub.
The house is a short drive to Granbury Square where we enjoyed a performance at the Opera House (beautiful venue), dinner at Linda's Kitchen (very good burgers), lunch at the Filling Station (so-so), dinner at Babe's (mixed reviews, but the left over fried chicken was wonderful) and shopping. Great fudge from this little shop with a ton of colorful displays-- forgot the name.
We also visited Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, which is kind of pricey for what we saw. Thousands of exotic deer and some cheetahs, ostrich, giraffe and emu. You have to book a special advance reservation to see their more exotic or endangered animals, which we did not have. Dinosaur Valley State Park was also on our list. I would recommend not going there during Spring Break-- very crowded. The water was so cloudy from all the waders it was difficult to see the footprints.
Bottom line, I would rent this home again if we were ever to travel back to the Granbury area.
We rented this home for a summer family gathering, and it was absolutely wonderful. There were plenty of beds for everyone, a big open kitchen for all of our cooking (and we did a LOT of eating!), and so much space for the kids to run around and play outside. It was immaculately clean and had everything we needed, even a high chair for our smallest ones! I loved sitting in the porch swing and watching the kids play while visiting with family. The lake was too low at the dock to do any fishing, but no one minded, and the new hot tub was available if anyone wanted to get wet. :) Shirley was so helpful and friendly to us, and my family members (most of whom have never rented a vacation home) were extremely impressed by all the amenities and the relaxing atmosphere. I would recommend this home to anyone. Thanks again for a great time!
What a wonderful holiday our family had at the little lakehouse in Granbury! Although the house itself is not all that large, it has a good sized kitchen that suited us beautifully as we prepared our Thanksgiving feast for 14! The mattresses in all four bedrooms were very comfortable. The house is super clean, well suited for entertaining, and a great place to relax.
In our cooking frenzy, we did have a problem with the microwave tripping the electricity - probably needs to be checked out.
I would whole-heartedly recommend the house to friends and family - will probably use it again with our own family!
