This property is just as advertised! It is off the beaten path and in a very beautiful area. We brought our own Christmas decorations and celebrated with our family! It was just perfect for our family of 15 and 2 dogs. We loved that the kitchen was fully stocked with all the cooking utensils that a person would need. There were plenty of extra sheets and blankets. The water pressure was great considering we had such a large group. We couldn't ask for anything better! Thank You for sharing your home with us over the Christmas Holiday!
Off the beaten path but close enough to all the major attractions in the Black Hills. Plenty of room for our party of eleven inside and there was ample space outdoors for the five children to play. The unit was clean and ready for us when we arrived. Ample supply of towels and linens as well. The views are also worth mentioning. Very scenic from all angles and wildlife, mostly deer, were abundant. Two were even spotted seventy-five feet from the front door. Would stay in this property again. Also worth noting is our deposit was returned within five days!
The house is roomy, the rooms are homey. I found it to be clean, well appointed, quiet, relaxing and well situated to look around the area. Great stay and we will be returning at some point.
Highly recommended if you are visiting the black hills / sturgis area.
The house is clean, well stocked, and charming! Our party of 5 (3 adults, 2 kids) had a great time here--the boys loved the game room downstairs and climbing the hills out back, then there was the satellite TV for entertainment after they'd run themselves ragged. We adults enjoyed the decor, the bedrooms, stocked kitchen, and wildlife (mostly turkey, but an occasional deer).
The location was perfect as we were close to my mother in Sturgis and family in Summerset and Rapid City, and we had plenty of room to have them all over for dinner. There was plenty of room for my sister and her husband to join us as well for several nights.
It was wonderful to spend the day hitting the tourist sites and running around the Hills only to come back to this comfortable and homey retreat at the end of a long day, where we could prepare a good meal, have room to spread out and relax, and sleep in the next day. Sure beat being stuck in a couple of hotel rooms!
My only complaints are minor--the gas grill is on its last legs and needs to be replaced, and the lawn needed to be mowed. However we enjoyed everything else about this place so much we'd love to be back next year and in the years to come!
With eight children in tow, it is difficult to find a lot of welcoming places that offer good accommodations for our family, let alone ample sleeping areas. That alone made Elk Creek Lodge worthy of 5 stars! What a wonderful set-up for the family! There was plenty of room and plenty of beds, and it very quickly felt like home to us.
In a beautiful setting within the Black Hills, and an almost certainty of seeing deer, turkey, and other wildlife every morning, our stay was a joy. We were within an hour of most of the sights and activities one goes to SD to see, and everything else was within the next half hour. It was so wonderful to spend the day doing our outings, knowing that we had a nice and comfortable place to return to. A welcoming selection of books, games, and DVDs greeted us for end-of-the-day family time.
Our six boys (and even the girls and dad!) loved exploring the hillsides, though it made us realize we need to work out more...
Finally, return of our security deposit was very prompt - a welcome change from experiences we've had elsewhere.
After a frustrating day of flight delays and cancellations, we finally made it to Elk Creek Lodge about 1 am. Chris had the keys ready for us and the lights were on. We were able to go right in and right to bed. Elk Creek was everything we imagined and more. Very secluded, quiet, abundance of wildlife and close to all of our destinations. We were very impressed and would definitely stay at Elk Creek again. Thank you Chris and Ce for all of your help during our vacation preparations. We had a great time in South Dakota thanks to you and the Elk Creed Lodge.
