Without a doubt, this property delivers the best of what this island has to offer right on its door step. Only 7 minutes from the airport & 12 minutes to Road Town. You can walk to the loveliest sandy beach, Josiah's Bay, (one of the best surfing beaches on the island) or enjoy the tranquility of stargazing at the nearby Secret Garden Restaurant in a historic sugar mill plantation.
You can lay back & relax on the cane back lounging chairs on the front porch of Lime Leaf after a quiet dinner for two cooked in the full service kitchen. Tamarind Club restaurant with a swim up pool bar is a 5 minute walk away & can supply a more lively night life if you desire with Trivia nights & bands weekly.
The cottage compact design is functional and your sure to find everything that you need. As you enter past the covered and spacious stone covered porch & enter the large French doors, you'll encounter the living room & separate en-suite bedroom on the left and to your right , the open plan kitchen with teak dining table. The cottage is painted soothing shades of West Indian colors and the property is surrounded by mature flowering native trees. The furnishings are teak with a Balinese flavor, the cupboards display a unique tin stenciling of a Caribbean reef scene. The beauty of Josiah's Bay is all around you and you can fall asleep listening to the waves crash on the beach.
A great space to retreat to after a day at the beach or stay at the cottage to write a novel or paint a watercolor, it's definitely an artists paradise. This is the perfect romantic hide away retreat for two.
I first came to the Virgin Islands in the early 80's and worked as a chef on charter-boats out of St. Thomas. Tortola appealed to me with its unique charm of wandering cows, pigs & chickens and tranquil beaches. My mother also followed me down here & met my step father, the late Tortola born Jazz musician Jon Lucien. When I first saw this property I knew it was the one. It has all the quite charm you could wish for in West Indian tradition with exterior stone details and high tongue and grooved ceiling. Little did I know when I first saw the property that is was located close to Jon's birth place & a first cousin to Jon had helped to build it. The Islands have always called me back for yearly visits and Lime Leaf has been the perfect retreat for me to paint, write, swim & snorkel, boggy board, kite board, lay on the beach & dance to reggae music. I am an Interior Decorator, Professional & Instructional Artist. I totally refurbished this cottage with lots of artistic touches like custom hand tooled tin work cabinets and tile work.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2004
This was the quiet retreat I was looking for. A quiet place on a country lane where cows meander by and chickens crow. A short walk to the almost private beach where buggy boarding & surfing dominate Nov thru April and flat waters in the summer. Several beach side bars & restaurants for food or refreshment. A quiet place for reflection to paint or write and a cool retreat from the sun after a day at any of the convenient beaches or mingling with tourists at the nearby large hotel pool (that I didn't have to maintain but could enjoy). It had the old West Indian charm with the high ceilings, stone work enclosed patio seating and beautiful mature flowering foliage. I enjoy the private driveway and you don't have to go a great distance up & down hilltops to get to the grocery store, there's one 3 minutes away on the East End.
One of the most enjoyable things about staying at Lime Leaf is that you have your privacy. You can come & go as you please without walking into a public place. You can sit on the front porch to drink your morning coffee, read undisturbed or just walk to the beach. A perfect place to write with a desktop or paint a painting. You have everything you need to relax. Chickens, pigs and cows often walk by the paved quite country like lane. You can see and watch exotic birds coming in from the near-by salt pond. But, if you want to be around people or be entertained the night life and pool side bars are near too.
We prefer Lime Leaf every time we stay in Tortolla. It is safe and quiet. The walk to Josiah's Bay Beach is a huge plus! This is one of the best beaches for both surfers and non-surfers alike! The owner is wonderful (but I hear that it may soon be sold…"sad face here"). The pictures and description on this site are right on and do not disappoint.
Both the property manager Greg and DeDe's rental car service (the owner "deadman") were excellent. Wonderful location! We loved every moment of our trip. Thank you CJ, we will be back!!!
We spent a very comfortable week at Lime Leaf Cottage. It's a short walk to Josiah's Bay Beach where we played in the surf and watched the surfers. There are two beach restaurants, but we favored Naomi's—authentic Caribbean. Its also a short walk in the opposite direction to the Tamarind Club for dinner. For five days we were without a car and didn't miss it. Our taxi from the ferry in Road Town stopped at a market and we stocked up for breakfast and lunch.
Jane, who manages the property is very helpful and friendly. She gave us tips for excursions when we got out car.
We enjoyed our stay. Lime Leaf was quiet, the cottage was clean, well - kept and was colorful. Nice place to relax in the evening. The deck was nice for evening snacks. It was nice to have a phone to make local calls. It was a good location with good access to Tortola East End and Road Town. We would stay there again. Very private. The owner was helpful and available. Her island representative was available and also helpful. Recommend Red Rock Restaurant on East End as a good place for dinner. People on the island were friendly and we had no worries about crime.
My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful month long holiday at Lime Leaf. It is a charming little cottage with a well -equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, private space including a deck to while away the hours reading a good book, visiting together, relaxing. It was exactly as it was listed in the description. We found it to be well maintained and very clean.
The beach is a short walk, and it is amazing. We tended to spend our free afternoons there walking the beach, having a drink, lounging in a beach chair.
We did not rent a car but chose rather to take taxis for our errands and excursions. While it may seem extravagent to spend $40. to go get groceries, you can tie it in with an excursion and it doesn't seem so bad. We did 2-3 excursions each week, and by months end, had spent $500. That is considerably less than the cost of car rental and is a stress-free way to see the island.
We would recommend this cottage to those who enjoy their privacy, and quiet. It suited us vey well.
I had the great pleasure of staying at Lime Leaf late Fall. The cottage was everything I hoped it would be magical ! A wonderful pool and restaurant/bar for guests of Lime Leaf.
The beach which was a wonderful five minute walk was the most amazing beach I have ever had the pleasure of visiting in my life!!! Wow.... ps..Beach bar there also!
